Blair described the attitude around invoking the Emergencies Act, which has never been implemented before, as “appropriate caution” rather than “reticence.”

The law gives the federal government carte blanche to cope with a crisis.

The legislation, which replaced the War Measures Act, defines a national emergency as a temporary “urgent and critical situation” that “seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it.”

This government is done. Canada has begun to resemble the old Soviet Union just before the wall came down. But their dictators were less egomaniacal than Junior.

On 22nd April 1965, Martin Luther King Jr, speaking at a meeting of the Massachusetts legislature, lamented the “tragedy” of school segregation. With the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the US had finally dismantled the Jim Crow laws — which King had joked about burying a decade earlier. The nation had come to King’s conclusion: “Segregation debilitates the segregator as well as the segregated”.

The year 2021 “saw the worst persecution of Christians in history” — with an average of 16 Christians murdered for their faith every day.

That observation comes from the World Watch List-2022 (WWL-2022), recently published by the international humanitarian organization, Open Doors. The report each year ranks the top 50 countries where Christians are most persecuted for their faith. The WWL uses data from field workers and external experts to quantify and analyze persecution worldwide.

Paris attacks trial: ‘How I persuaded Salah Abdeslam to open up’

In a Paris courtroom this week, lawyer Claire Josserand-Schmidt stood face to face with Salah Abdeslam, the only surviving suspect from a gang of violent jihadists who killed 130 people in Paris six years ago.

As a lawyer for the victims and their families, her job was to cross-examine France’s most high-profile defendant.

“It would have been much easier for everyone to have to deal with a heartless monster,” she told the BBC. “The human being is more subtle. I didn’t want to have a confrontation with him. The point is to learn as much as possible.”

Federal District Court a what should have been a boring conflict of interest motion, but it hid a surprise: The Clinton campaign, through Perkins Coie, spied on Trump both before and after he was president. The following is a plain English-language summary of relevant parts of the motion:

Michael Sussman was a partner at Law Firm-1 (i.e., Perkins Coie). He met with the FBI General Counsel (i.e., James Baker), and offered data and “white papers” purporting to show that Trump was communicating covertly with a Russia-based bank (i.e., Alfa-Bank). Mueller, incidentally, had to admit this was untrue.

Oligarchy’s Response to the Freedom Convoy Bodes Ill for Them

The deposition of Canada’s prime minister is unlikely to be so sanguinary as the Ceaușescus in Romania. But it will be no less definitive.

As I write, Canadian police, many dressed in military garb and supported by armored vehicles and snipers(!), are moving in to enforce several court orders and demands of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and others that the “Freedom Convoy” of Canadian truckers stop blocking the Ambassador Bridge, the major artery between the United States and Canada, and disperse. Some of the protestors are leaving while many others are standing their ground.

Will the heavy hand of the state succeed in crushing the protest? In the short term, perhaps.

The US media are shamefully smearing the ‘Freedom Convoy’ as a far-right menace.

By now, most Americans have heard of the truckers’ actions happening north of the border. Based on lurid descriptions of the protests from the US media, they could be forgiven for thinking these protesters are a small bunch of nasty thugs and Nazis who must be put down immediately. Indeed, it seems American reporters and commentators have decided to project all of their hatred of Trumpists and deplorable workers generally on to the Canadian truckers.

“Heath Racela identifies as three-quarters white and one-quarter Filipino,” begins a National Public Radio report published on the internet this week, detailing the fraught racial politics of choosing emoji skin colors. Your humble correspondent, for those who might be wondering, identifies as one-half white and one-half Irish.

It’s a rather strange construction. Either Mr. (Mx.?) Racela is one-quarter Filipino, or he is not. Race and ethnicity seem odd arenas for the advancement of the self-identification fad. These past few years we have witnessed the mainstreaming of a zealous race essentialism which asserts that such identities are the burdens of our history—inescapable if inconvenient facts handed down to us from the past.

Crowds snatch ‘blasphemer’, 41, from police then brutally kill him and hang body from tree in remote village

A man was stoned to death in a remote village in eastern Pakistan for allegedly desecrating the Koran, police have said.

The custodian of local mosque said he saw Mushtaq Ahmed, 41, burning the Muslim holy book inside the mosque on Saturday evening and informed the police.

The subsequent violence took place in a village in the district of Khanewal in Punjab province.

This is like scoring a touchdown in Islam!

Bill Maher Says Trudeau Sounds Like Hitler, and He’s Right

“The gradual red pilling of Bill Maher has been something to watch over the last few years,” Stacey Lennox wrote recently, and Matt Margolis noted that “his rants are important, because even he is embarrassed by the radical elements of his party, and he’s not afraid to call them out.” On Friday, Maher also called out Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, reading aloud comments Trudeau made about unvaccinated people and excoriating the feckless Canadian leader’s authoritarianism, even likening him to Adolf Hitler. But unlike the Left’s comparisons of virtually every dissenter from their agenda, especially Donald Trump, to Hitler, Maher actually had a point.
