Ontario reports highest single-day COVID-19 case count in more than 6 months

The province of Ontario is reporting its highest single-day total of new COVID-19 cases in more than six months.

Health officials reported 1,184 new infections on Sunday, the third consecutive day the case count has topped 1,000.

It’s the highest single-day total of new cases since May 28 when 1,273 were reported.

Would national vaccine mandates work in Canada? Experts aren’t sure

With European states turning to mandatory national vaccination regimes to deal with record COVID-19 infections, experts in Canada say that while science and the law may back the Liberal government if it chose to follow suit, it might not be the panacea the public is hoping for.

There are significant challenges to imposing a national mandatory vaccination program for all Canadians, the first of which is the age-old jurisdictional battle between the federal government and the provinces.

Under the Constitution, the provinces are responsible for delivering health care, and a vaccine mandate would fall under that remit. If the federal government wanted to take over that responsibility, it would have to either use the Emergencies Act or pass legislation giving it the authority to act.

This smells of the CBC floating a national vax mandate trial balloon on behalf of the Liberal Party.

In a Friday press release by the Kyodo News Service, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare warned of myocarditis and pericarditis issues related to the mRNA COVID vaccines.

The Kyodo News Service is the Japanese equivalent of the AP or Reuters. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is the Japanese equivalent of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where the CDC is located.

From the EU to the Cabinet Office, our elites really are uneasy about the C-word.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without news reports that some institution has ‘banned Christmas’, or eschewed any mention of it, for fear of offending non-believers and ethnic minorities. So, right on cue, a headline in the Mail on Sunday read: ‘Now Whitehall’s woke “blob” tries to ban Christmas: Ministers are warned using the word in festive jab drive will offend minorities.’

It wouldn’t be Christmas, either, without the haughty retort that stories of ‘Christmas being banned’ are typical right-wing nonsense, invariably peddled by the Daily Mail. In response to the Mail report, the HuffPost said that any attempts to ban the C-word were undertaken by the Cabinet Office, and not the ‘woke’ civil service, as the Mail had claimed. ‘Versions of this story traditionally come around every Christmas’, sighed the HuffPost, ‘but this year it manages to shoehorn in the term “woke”

It’s the holiday season again and time to decide where to shop based on people’s skin color — or so says Black Lives Matter.

The group for the seventh year is urging people to boycott stores owned by White people and only to patronize Black-owned businesses.

“When buying items, spend exclusively with Black-owned businesses from Black Friday through New Year,” the group said on its website and Instagram promoting its annual #BuyBlack campaign.

Pope Francis says stupid stuff about migrants and populism

Pope Francis has used a trip to Greece to hit out at Europe for the divisions it has exhibited over migration while also warning against the perils of populism.

In Athens, on the second leg of a Mediterranean tour that has highlighted the plight of migrants and refugees, the pontiff also expressed concern over democracy’s retreat globally. Greece has long been on the frontline of the refugee crisis.

“The European community, torn by nationalist self-interest, rather than being the engine of solidarity, appears at times blocked and uncoordinated,” he said in an address at Greece’s presidential palace on Saturday.

“In the past ideological conflicts prevented the building of bridges between eastern and western Europe; today the issue of migration has led to breaches between south and north as well.”

Frankie’s scolding shows he is just another out of touch member of the well insulated elite that doesn’t have to personally deal with the consequences of his screeds.

Chris Cuomo fired from CNN over involvement with brother Andrew’s scandals

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has been fired in the wake of revelations he secretly aided the defense of his embattled brother, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo — and the network said it is probing new information on “Fredo.”

“This is not how I want my time at CNN to end,” Chris Cuomo said in a statement.

“But I have already told you why and how I helped my brother,” he continued.

CNN confirmed the firing and said that Cuomo had been “terminated … effective immediately” as an outside law firm continues to investigate “his involvement with his brother’s defense.”
