Ontario is reporting more than 400 new COVID-19 cases today and nine more virus-related deaths as the average daily case count exceeds 500 for the first time in weeks.

Provincial health officials are reporting 454 new cases today, up from 441 on Tuesday and 378 one week ago.

Kyle Rittenhouse looks like he’s headed for an acquittal, legal analyst says

On Monday, the prosecution’s case against an Illinois teen, 18-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, collapsed with a confounding unforced error. Watching the trial unfold, I now believe that a key witness’s calm, revelatory description of events, ensured Rittenhouse’s acquittal on five of the six charges in the controversial case.

The Kenosha saga began with the police shooting of knife-wielding Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old black man, in Kenosha, Wisconsin on August 23, 2020. Following three days of fiery protests and property destruction, Rittenhouse, then a 17-year-old minor, traveled across state lines, armed with a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle provided by a friend.

Multicultural Europe Swept by Week of Migrant Violence and ‘Allahu Akbar‘ Attacks

In just over a week, several western European countries have seen incidents of violence, including an attack on police officers in France on Monday by an Algerian migrant yelling “Allahu Akbar.”

Since the end of October European states Italy, France and Germany have all seen violence perpetrated by men from migrant backgrounds, and in some cases, attackers professing “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is Great” as they struck.

Canada checks whether its soldiers train Ukrainian neo-Nazis

Stung by allegations that its troops trained neo-Nazis in Ukraine, Canada’s defense department has launched a review into the vetting process on its “mentoring” and “capacity building” programs for foreign military personnel.

In response to the bombshell accusations, defense department spokesman Dan Le Bouthillier revealed that an internal review had begun last month that will “look holistically at all missions” where the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are involved with foreign military personnel.

Rittenhouse trial plagued by corporate tech and Big Media bid to taint his case

As Kyle Rittenhouse’s prosecutors go into their grand facepalms, following the trial revelation from their star witness that just supported the 17-year-old murder defendant’s claim to self-defense, it’s pretty obvious the wretched case is now over.  AT deputy editor Andrea Widburg has an excellent post today on that here.

The short story here is that the kid was beset by Antifa thugs during the Kenosha, Wisconsin arson-and-looting riots last summer and ended up killing a couple of menacing Antifa-linked thugs who seemed to be trying to kill him first.  The argument stands up, and even the guy who’d been aiming the gun at Rittenhouse at close quarters admitted it.  The case obviously should have never been brought to trial, and the kid should not have been held in jail, been subject to a Red Queen–style trial by press, nor held up as a pariah in the months that followed.  These prosecutors had no case whatsoever and are now on record as junk prosecutors who bring trash cases premised on the direction of the political winds.  The kid should be acquitted promptly.

Everyone is worried about “Islamophobia”: New Jersey’s unlikeliest new state senator-elect just apologized for criticizing Islam; Muslim leaders in Canada want the Ontario government to be more proactive against “Islamophobia”; and a mosque leader in London recently charged that Muslim women in Britain live in fear of “racism.” Meanwhile, in Pakistan several days ago, Muslims fired upon Christians in an attempt to seize their lands; in Nigeria, Muslims kidnapped over one hundred Christians; and in Egypt, two Muslim brothers murdered a Christian shopkeeper because of his faith. The Muslim persecution of Christians has rarely been as virulent or widespread as it is today, yet it gets little attention. That’s why a new book by Casey Chalk, The Persecuted: True Stories of Courageous Christians Living Their Faith in Muslim Lands (Sophia Institute Press), is a breath of fresh air and a welcome dose of realism in an international public discourse increasingly dominated by sloganeering and propaganda.

Mexico army gives drug cartels free rein as critics claim ‘non-aggression pact’

A small squad of soldiers with about a half-dozen trucks and sandbag emplacements stands guard on a rural highway in western Mexico. In one direction, almost within earshot, one drug cartel operates a roadblock extorting farmers. In the other direction, a rival cartel carries out armed patrols in trucks bearing its initials.

The Mexican army has largely stopped fighting drug cartels here, instead soldiers guard the dividing lines between gang territories so they won’t invade each other’s turf – and turn a blind eye to the cartels’ illegal activities just a few hundred yards away.

At the first roadblock, set up by the Viagras gang that has long dominated the state of Michoacán, a truck stands parked across the highway and stacked sandbags protect cartel gunmen.

As COP26 demonstrates, the politics of fear is everywhere today. Governments rely on it to encourage citizens to act. And activists exploit it to highlight the supposed urgency of their cause.

All this fear-mongering, however, is having a profound effect on the mindset of teenagers today. It has filled us with fear and guilt, and it has exacerbated our sense of insecurity.

A prominent press critic has warned mainstream media outlets they face a “steep journalistic challenge” to back up their initial reporting on the Steele dossier in the wake of the latest indictment secured by special counsel John Durham.

Washington Post media critic Erik Wemple wrote Monday that last week’s indictment of Igor Danchenko, a key source for former British spy Christopher Steele’s report, is “bad news” for several media outlets — including Wemple’s own employer.

Pentagon: China’s navy is now world’s largest with 460 warships by 2030

China‘s navy is now the world’s largest maritime military force and will deploy 460 warships by the end of the decade, according to the Pentagon‘s latest annual report on Chinese military power.

The current warship arsenal for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) includes 355 naval platforms, including major surface ships, submarines, aircraft carriers, amphibious warships and mine warfare craft.

Conservative MP apologizes for sharing ‘misinformation’ about COVID-19 vaccines

 

OTTAWA — Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu has apologized for sharing misinformation about the severity of COVID-19 and the safety and efficacy of vaccines against the disease.

In a written statement released Tuesday, Gladu called her remarks “inappropriate.”

“Upon reflection, I recognize how dangerous it is to share misinformation about the severity of COVID-19 and the safety and efficacy of vaccines,” she said
