A decade and a half back, the late Christopher Hitchens was talking to the then UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and brought up my demographic-death-spiral thesis from America Alone. Hitch wanted to know whether, when the PM got together with the Continental bigwigs, it was part of “the European conversation”.

Tone replied that it was part of “the subterranean conversation”.

By which he meant that nice house-trained EU prime ministers hadn’t figured out a way to raise such subjects in public without being damned as racists and becoming electorally unviable, at least anywhere west of the Landstraße, to modify Metternich. They still haven’t. Fifteen years on, almost every subject worth talking about remains part of “the subterranean conversation”.

For a generation that grew up with education, international investment and hope in a democratic future, reading that line must feel scarcely believable.

So how did the previous administration fall so quickly? The Taliban went from taking control of their first major city to arriving at the gates of Kabul in just 10 days.

But the capital, it was assumed, would be different. Most observers believed that Kabul would hold until a negotiated agreement could take place. On Sunday 15 August, that all changed. Within hours, the president and his top officials had fled. What was left of the Afghan army and police forces changed out of their uniforms, and went into hiding.

Palestinians: Why Biden’s Aid Will Not Bring Peace

As the Biden administration steps up its efforts to bolster the Palestinian Authority (PA), Palestinians seem to be increasingly losing faith in their leaders.

The Palestinian public also appears to be losing faith in any peace process with Israel. Many are even saying that they support the annulment of the Oslo Accords, signed in 1993 between Israel and the PLO and that the only peace process they would support is one that leads to the elimination of Israel.

The Biden administration, which earlier this year restored relations with the PA and pledged to resume unconditional financial aid to the Palestinians, apparently believes that such measures will pave the way for the revival of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians toward a “two-state solution.”

Fort Hood gunman congratulates Taliban from death row in handwritten letter

The former U.S. Army major and self-described “soldier of Allah” behind the deadly 2009 massacre at Fort Hood cheered the resurgent Taliban ’s takeover of Afghanistan in a letter obtained exclusively by the Washington Examiner.

Writing from death row at Fort Leavenworth , Nidal Hasan boasted “We Have Won” and congratulated the Taliban. Hasan, who gunned down 14 people and wounded 43 more, urged the nascent terrorist government to implement its brand of brutal oppression under the guise of religion.

Send in Rapinoe! Taliban official says women will be barred from playing sports in Afghanistan

“I don’t think women will be allowed to play cricket because it is not necessary that women should play cricket,” Wasiq said. “In cricket, they might face a situation where their face and bodies will not be covered. Islam does not allow women to be seen like this.”

If allowed to take participate in sports, there will be “photos and videos” of the women that people will undoubtedly watch – something that cannot occur, Wasiq said.

RCMP will not apologize to Black community for excessive Halifax street checks

The RCMP says there will be no formal apology to Halifax’s Black communities for its heavy use of street checks, despite the Halifax regional police having done so almost two years ago.

Street checks, which are now banned in Nova Scotia, are defined as police randomly stopping citizens on the streets, recording personal information and storing it electronically – a practice sometimes referred to as “carding” elsewhere in Canada.

Four Taliban members swapped for Bowe Bergdahl now in Afghan government

Four of the five Taliban members released from Guantanamo Bay by the Obama administration in 2014 in exchange for admitted US Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl are part of the Islamic fundamentalist group’s new hardline government in Afghanistan, according to local media reports.

The four members of the so-called “Taliban Five” who have joined the new government are Acting Director of Intelligence Abdul Haq Wasiq, Acting Minister of Borders and Tribal Affairs Norullah Noori, Deputy Defense Minister Mohammad Fazl, and Acting Minister of Information and Culture Khairullah Khairkhah. The fifth member of the Taliban Five, Mohammad Nabi Omari, was appointed governor of eastern Khost Province last month.

As Abacus chair Bruce Anderson wrote in an Aug. 11 Maclean’s magazine article, “almost half of (the vaccine hesitant, 46 per cent) live in Ontario and well over half of them (59 per cent) are women. A quarter were born outside Canada. Their average age is 42 and the plurality are between 30 and 44 years old. If they were voting in a federal election today, 35 per cent would vote Liberal, 25 per cent Conservative, 17 per cent NDP, nine per cent Green — pretty similar to overall voting intentions for the entire population.”

Saturday marks twenty years since Islamic jihadis attacked New York City and Washington, and the establishment media is doing all it can to ensure that Americans grasp the true significance of those attacks: not that America was hit by a global jihad that has only gained in strength since then and could hit us again, but that Muslims were and are the true victims of that fateful day. In the last few days, the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press have published lengthy pieces to that effect, and more in this vein is certain to come this week.

David Staples: Canada can no longer do the big, important things. Can Erin O’Toole change that?

It’s what we fear that largely propels how we will vote on election day. For this reason, political leaders are constantly mashing on the fear button.

It’s why Justin Trudeau brings up abortion, gun control and unruly mobs of angry white voters. He hopes to drum up fear about Erin O’Toole and the Conservatives. He does it because it works and I get the tactic, in part because I am driven in part by fear myself.

Canada is being slowly strangled to death. Quebec is an extortive albatross and few in the ROC could care less if they left. The Maritimes have long been a federal welfare case and mostly vote accordingly. Ontario exists only as woke Toronto and that is not a good neighborhood. The divisions widen daily, oil rich provinces versus the virtue signaling eco-taliban, socialists versus the other socialists versus the minority of conservatives. An elite as destructive and corrupt as any to be found anywhere continues to force mass immigration and weaponized multiculturalism down our throats, all the better to enrich themselves and impoverish the rest of us. Consequently our social fabric has been torn to shreds.

We are reduced to tribes scrambling for crumbs.

Gradually and then all at once Trudeau’s vision will be realized and Canada will be the world’s first post-modern state. Unfortunately that entails being a failed state.

That’s why we can’t do the “Big Important Things.”

Could People’s Party of Canada convert social media traction into votes?

The People’s Party of Canada got a handful of its election signs on TV newscasts over the past few hours. The PPC signs were in the background as Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau made his way to the bus in London and got showered by a handful of gravel.

In one shot you can clearly see a sign for Chelsea Hillier, the PPC candidate from Elgin-Middlesex-London. Last night Hillier tweeted “Justin Trudeau had quite the warm welcome tonight in London!” That was last night. Tuesday Hillier’s tone shifted a little.
