What Should Be Done to Curb Big Tech?

A few billionaires currently have the power to decide that some Americans’ speech rights are more sacred than others. Clarence Thomas offers a remedy.

Do your eyes gloss over when you see the words “Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act”? Mine do.

Yet the subject of Big Tech’s might — Should Facebook have the power to ban a president? Should Amazon have the power to ban the sale of a controversial book? Should Twitter have the power to permanently bar a user over a single tweet? And if not, what should the government be doing about it? — is both fascinating and incredibly important.

What the left ignores in all these anti-Asian hate crimes

A professor named Liam O’Mara from Chapman University in California, who was also a candidate for a Riverside County congressional seat, tweeted a picture of a Ku Klux Klan hood to Candace Owens, which read, “Yikes. You may’ve dropped this.” This was because Miss Owens previously tweeted, “The #1 violent offenders against black people are other black people.”

Nightmares of My Father

It has been almost exactly 70 years since my father was assigned to a two-man bunker overlooking an anonymous ridge on the 38th Parallel in Korea. The purpose of these outposts was to act as a trip-wire in the event of a mass attack of Chinese troops. Several weeks prior to June 1951, members of Dad’s battalion had been ambushed while patrolling the front, an ambush that cost the lives of several Army soldiers. But they served their purpose: to alert the battalion bivouacked a quarter-mile behind the line.

Canada To Censor “Hurtful” Comments About Politicians, Implement Internet Kill-Switch

Canada To Censor “Hurtful” Comments About Politicians, Implement Internet Kill-Switch

Federal internet censors should target hurtful words against politicians, says Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault. The Minister added pending regulations may include an internet kill switch to block websites deemed hurtful, but called it a “nuclear” option.

“We have seen too many examples of public officials retreating from public service due to the hateful online content targeted towards themselves or even their families,” said Guilbeault.  “I have seen firsthand alongside other Canadians the damaging effects harmful content has on our families, our values and our institutions. As a dad and a stepdad to six kids, I know more can and should be done to create a safer online environment.”

Forensic analysis of Hunter Biden laptop by ex-FBI agent finds ‘no evidence’ of fake data

A forensic analysis reportedly determined the data found on the laptop believed to belong to Hunter Biden appears to be authentic.

Cyber forensic experts from Maryman & Associates were commissioned to examine thousands of text messages, emails, and photos on the laptop’s contents that were found on a copy of the hard drive obtained by the Daily Mail.

The review found the data on the system “before April 2019 appears to be related to Mr. Biden, with timestamps appearing to be between 2016 and 2019,” according to a report that culminated from the examination.

Rex Murphy: The facts in the WE scandal are clear. It’s not complicated

… The point here is plain. Why does it take months to make a ruling on what is, substantially, a very limited and understood question? Did Justin Trudeau’s engagements, his multiple appearances as a high-banner speaker at WE Day events, and his therefore obviously friendly relationship with Craig and Marc Kielburger, play any part in the decision, since abandoned, to pay the brothers’ WE Charity up to $43.5 million to run a program worth almost $1 billion? Were any other organizations consulted, offered an opportunity to apply for management of that program, or was WE plucked out because of its high profile with the prime minister? Was this a plain conflict of interest or the plain appearance of a conflict of interest, which in this context, are more or less the same thing?

All Signs Point to ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Being Woke Sequel

The fact that they are making yet another Indiana Jones film is bad enough, but to hear that Indy’s fifth outing may end up being a woke reboot is almost too much for us to bear.

According to the nerd outlet Bounding into Comics, the fifth Indiana Jones movie will also star leftwing British actress and Hollywood screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the same woman that vowed to make the upcoming James Bond flick a more inclusive, social justice-oriented outing.

Derek Chauvin Trial – Prosecution Problems Ignored or Misrepresented In Mainstream Media

“I’m not making any predictions. I think the verdict could go either way at this stage, and if I had to put a wager on the table, it’s more likely that there will be a guilty finding on at least one of the counts. There is sufficient evidence, particularly after the prosecution medical expert witnesses, for a jury to find guilt, if the jury believes the prosectution witnesses and discounts whatever contrary experts the defense brings. The 9-minute video is still very powerful evidence. Conversely, there also is enough in dispute for a finding of reasonable doubt.”

Legalinsurrection has been offering excellent live coverage of the trial.

Another take… Chauvin Prosecutors Have Answered One Big Question

There are miles still to go in Derek Chauvin’s murder trial. But as this week ended with prosecutors winding down their direct case, we should be able to say one thing with confidence: The battle over causation is over. In a legal sense, George Floyd was killed by the physical restraint applied by police last Memorial Day on a Minneapolis street.

There is less in that assertion than may appear at first blush.

John Ivison: Canada reluctant to side with Taiwan as Chinese aggression escalates

These are tense times to be on the frontlines of democracy. Chinese incursions into Taiwan’s air defence zone has left the island’s residents feeling under siege — besides the 15 planes that entered Taiwanese airspace earlier this week, a Chinese aircraft carrier is carrying out what are called “routine exercises” close to the island.

Taiwan’s military “won’t stand a chance,” if China chooses to invade, an unnamed source told the Chinese state news service Global Times on Friday.

The First AOC Administration

“Moderate” Biden has been all-left all the time.

If an office pool were held today, the question being to identify one thing Joe Biden has done since fetching up at 1600 that AOC would not have done had she been the winner November 3 last, that pool would not produce a winner. Because there’s not a single thing that Biden — whom the mainstream media insist on describing as a cuddly, dog-loving fuzzball of a moderate — has done that the former Bronx barista, now leftist heartthrob, would not find simpatico. As we moderates say, Vive la révolution!

Go Ahead, Joe: Stop Virtue Signaling and Grab the Guns. And the Knives and the Blue Sedans While You’re at It

Go Ahead, Joe: Stop Virtue Signaling and Grab the Guns. And the Knives and the Blue Sedans While You’re at It

Democrats ridicule the adage, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people,” and for good reason. The adage is true and exposes the real root of America’s alleged gun violence problem — a proliferation of mental illness, hatred, and moral depravity in this country. But if guns truly are the problem, as Democrats insist, then stop dancing around the issue. I’m talking to you, Joe — you’re the one you’ve been waiting for and it’s time to get serious about solving the gun violence problem in America.

Chinese Leader Xi Jinping Signals Return to the Mao Era

Chinese Leader Xi Jinping Signals Return to the Mao Era

April 4, 2021, Easter Day, was the same day as the Ching Ming Festival in China, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, the day when the Chinese honor ancestors and families gather to pay respect to the dead. On this day, the Chinese regime quietly opened the grave of former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Chairman Mao Zedong’s wife Jiang Qing, but blocked that of former General Secretary Zhao Ziyang, who stepped down because of his opposition to the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre. This opening of one and closing of another released an important political signal.
