What’s behind the spike in jewelry store smash-and-grabs in Ontario

In the parking lot of an east-end Toronto apartment building, a detective in plain clothes and a bullet-proof vest empties a bag of potential evidence he and other officers seized moments before from a main-floor unit.

Wrapped in plastic bags are hammers, a replica handgun, a diamond ring in a Peoples Jewellers box, a balaclava, jewelry display boxes and pieces of broken glass police believe could have come from jewelry display cases smashed during a series of 11 robberies and attempted robberies in June and early July.

“It’s disturbing that it seems every time we make an arrest or an occurrence happens, another one seems to follow it,” said Det. Sgt. Ryan Boulay, who leads York Regional Police’s (YRP) holdup unit. York Region is an area north of Toronto that includes Richmond Hill and Markham.

The usual yutes who will only face charges as “minors” are being recruited.

Trump praises Mamdani in the Oval Office: ‘We’ll help him’

President Trump and New York’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani stunned both of their supporters with a friendly show in the White House after a meeting that was widely expected to be hostile.

The pair, who publicly rebuked one another during Mamdani’s campaign, smiled and shook hands in the Oval Office before they spoke to the press on Friday afternoon.

Canada’s progressives need to rethink the green reality

Challenged by many Liberals, New Democrats, and a wide swathe of Canadians, to defend his softening on fossil fuels, especially liquid natural gas (LNG), one might forgive Prime Minister Mark Carney for saying to himself, or even out loud, “Because its 2025, not 2015!”

The year of Justin Trudeau’s first election victory, followed by the Paris agreement on climate, was an ebullient moment for Canadian green progressives. The United States had finally moved to sanity on climate. Deadlines for transition away from fossil fuels were set by many countries and companies at what were seen as “aspirational” levels.

Germany Sees New Surge in Violent Attacks on Women by Immigrant Suspects

Germany is seeing another surge in violence against women committed by non-German suspects, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has reported.

Presenting the findings on Thursday, Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) said the trend “has been solidifying for years.” The BKA registered almost 266,000 victims of domestic violence last year, including more than 187,000 women and girls. That represents a 3.8% rise on the previous year and a 17.8% increase compared with 2022.

A Métis delegation stormed out of the BC legislature after controversial OneBC party leader Dallas Brodie questioned the narrative surrounding the Kamloops Indian Residential School (IRS). Things go from bad to worse – surprise! – in America’s most Muslim municipality.

Fifteen years ago, on March 7, 2010, Michigan Live (which bills itself as “Michigan’s #1 News Source”) ran an article by one Kim Schneider about the Islamization of Dearborn, Michigan, which she described as boasting “one of the largest Muslim communities outside the Middle East.”

Architect of Sweden’s controversial anti-lockdown strategy reveals why nation did NOT need stay at home measures

Eliminating Covid was ‘impossible’, according to the architect of Sweden’s anti-lockdown approach.

In an explosive memoir charting the pandemic in his eyes, Dr Anders Tegnell — the nation’s now-former state epidemiologist — said it was obvious the virus would not be over by summer 2020.

As such, shutting down society for so long was off the cards.

Lorne Gunter: Feds’ treatment of Alberta versus Quebec clearly uneven

Presently, Quebec’s legislature, the National Assembly, is debating a new provincial constitution that would declare Quebec a “free national State,” known as the State of Quebec, “fully sovereign” from the rest of Canada. The new constitution would assert that the province may appoint its own superior court judges (a power now reserved to Ottawa), conduct foreign policy separate from (or even at odds with) Canada’s foreign policy, ignore federal laws and participate in national institutions only when Quebec wishes to.

It’s effectively a declaration of independence without having to give up billions annually in transfer and equalization payments.

What Happened When Extinction Rebellion Had a Taste of its Own Medicine

Last week, I attended an event on climate change at the Hampton Inspired Hub. It was advertised as an update on the science of global warming. The first words out of the host’s mouth, however, were: “Thank you for joining us here with Hampton Extinction Rebellion.”

I nearly got up to leave, but it was raining outside and I already had a drink, so I decided to stay.

Minnesota welfare fraud exposes the failure of assimilation

There is no whitewashing this scandal: segments of the Somali community in Minneapolis have been engaged in systematic welfare fraud, and used some of the proceeds to fund the Al-Shabaab terror group in their homeland.

The enraging City Journal exposé presents a case study in why the United States must drastically slash the number of immigrants it admits, and become significantly more rigorous in choosing whom to admit and how to assimilate them.

“There is an issue here that is real,” a law-enforcement source said, “and if there is ever an event that is traceable back to these funds, or to people from this area, then this situation will take on a whole new set of optics.”

Awesome news!

The enablers: A network of professionals, family and friends allegedly kept Ryan Wedding’s vast cocaine empire afloat

A network of seemingly legitimate professionals in Canada and abroad are accused of keeping a billion-dollar drug cartel afloat under the violent leadership of former Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding.

While Wedding is named as the improbable mastermind behind a vast cocaine empire — compared by the FBI to history’s most notorious drug lords Pablo Escobar and El Chapo Guzman — nine other people were also alleged by the U.S. government to form a “network of enablers” who stop him choking on a mountain of hard-to-use dirty money.

Security ramps up in town awaiting arrival of 600 lone male asylum seekers

Security is ramping up around an army base that is set to house 600 male asylum seekers – as locals were told they would get ’48 hours’ notice’ before they move in.

Residents are in revolt over the plans for Crowborough Army Training Camp in East Sussex, with thousands of people turning out every week for noisy protests.

Today, guards with dogs were seen patrolling the site, where a secondary security fence has been erected alongside a series of residential huts.
