Azerbaijan’s government authorities refuse to release the Armenian hostages whom they have illegally held and abused since they captured them in 2020 and 2023.
On January 17, Azerbaijan began trials of 16 Armenian captives — including the former leaders of Artsakh (Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh) — in military courtrooms, to which international media and observers have been denied access.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on October 13 that in the coming weeks, Azerbaijan could invade Armenia. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has threatened Armenia with war multiple times.
Meanwhile, pro-Erdogan media outlets in Turkey are also playing their war drums against Armenians. The headline news in the pro-Erdogan newspaper Türkiye on October 3 refers to Armenians in Armenia’s Syunik (Zangezur) province as “snakes”, “gangs” and “terrorists”. One headline reads: “The new nest of the snake is Zangezur”. It claims that the Armenians displaced from Artsakh (also known as Nagorno-Karabakh) are receiving military training in “terror camps in Zangezur”.
The thousand-year-old genocide of Armenians at the hands of Turkic peoples has reached a new level.
Several watchdog organizations — including the International Association of Genocide Scholars, Genocide Watch, and the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention — are accusing Azerbaijan of committing genocide against the 120,000 Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh. Historically known as Artsakh, this ancient Armenian region was brought under Azerbaijani rule in 2020.
“We stand by our brothers from Azerbaijan and we will not allow unbelieving dogs of Armenia to live in peace in Germany”, and further: “We know you, we know where your children are, Day and night.”
