On Wednesday, the splashy profile on the front of the Washington Post “Style” section was a sugary profile of the latest socialist radical to win a seat in the House of Representatives, Cori Bush of Missouri. The headline in the paper was puffy:

Stacey Abrams is a 47-year-old attorney who launched her political career as a Democrat in 2006 when she was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, where she held a seat until August 2017. Since losing a 2018 gubernatorial bid in Georgia, she has emerged as a leading promoter of fellow Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, who seek to win the upcoming Georgia runoff elections that will determine which party controls the U.S. Senate. On Monday, Abrams boasted to CBS This Morning that 1.2 million Georgians – including 85,000 who did not vote in the November elections six weeks ago — have already requested absentee ballots for the runoffs. Added Abrams: “They are disproportionately voters between the ages of 18 and 29 and disproportionately people of color,” demographics that tend to heavily favor Democrats.
In this brave new world of ours, will we be pruning back the elderly altogether by credentialed “ethicists,” whether because of their longevity or race?
Since March, the Left has proclaimed itself the guardian of science in dealing with the COVID-19 epidemic. Its champions are the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Dr. Fauci. All in the past have rendered valuable service to the public, and often life-saving aid.
Yet the mixture of COVID-19, the first national quarantine, and Trump Derangement Syndrome have combined to give us reason to question their judgment. These authorities variously have issued conflicting recommendations to wear, then not to wear, and finally to wear masks. Or they have both criticized and then advised travel bans.
A Rubicon has been crossed in American political discourse. Long purveyors of Marxism, the nation’s leftists have now come to fully embrace something else; racism. Just in the last week in the areas of medicine, education, and journalism, well-intentioned institutional racists have insisted — as is increasingly their habit — that skin color is and must be the defining element of our public policies.
There is no issue more important to the future and soul of our nation right now than the leftist bigotry threatening the very concept of what it means to be an American.
Amid all the election mayhem and politicized coronavirus hysteria of the past several months, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that the cultural realm, not the political arena, is where the deeper threat to our freedoms and civilization lies, because the culture is where hearts and minds are won or lost. The Left has always known this, but the Right tends to obsess over the political and scorn the cultural as trivial and unserious. If we never grasp how critical it is to engage the Left on that front, we will lose the Long Game. Let’s look at a couple of recent examples of one aspect of the Marxist assault on our culture in which the Left is gaining ground – their agenda to subvert our traditional norms of masculinity.

Seven people described as “ultra-left” were charged with forming a “terrorist criminal group” in order to carry out violent action, several French news outlets reported, citing official sources. Anti-terrorism prosecutors asked for pre-trial detention of six of the suspects who had appeared before a judge on Friday.

All San Diego teachers are being required to attend a “white privilege” training in which they are told, “you are racist” and must commit to becoming “anti-racist” in the classroom, according to a report.
When California store owners turned to voters to criminalize shoplifting again with Proposition 20, they never had much of a chance once Patricia Quillin threw in $2 million against them.
When Quillin paid $1 million to support Proposition 16, Asian-American opponents of the proposition, which would legalize racial discrimination against them in the form of affirmative action, protested outside her husband’s job. Her husband is the CEO of Netflix.
In October, the Seattle City Council floated legislation to provide an exemption from prosecution for misdemeanor crimes for any citizen who suffers from poverty, homelessness, addiction, or mental illness. Under the proposed ordinance, courts would have to dismiss all so-called “crimes of poverty”—which, according to the city’s former public-safety advisor, would cover more than 90 percent of all misdemeanor cases citywide. In effect, the legislation would create a new class of “untouchables,” protected from consequences by the city’s powerbrokers.
The current crisis did not begin with Trump, contrary to the vain repetitions of the Never Trump crowd. The Left’s woes didn’t begin with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The political turmoil on both the left and right started a couple election cycles back with Bill Clinton and Chuck Schumer. What began with government good intentions and notions of correcting injustice caused one short-term fiscal calamity and continues as a rolling cultural catastrophe.
