The Paris Olympic Games came to an end on Sunday, August 11th. While they were expected to be a windfall for Parisian retailers, restaurateurs, and hoteliers, who were hoping for a massive influx of customers to boost their sales, the accounts reveal a much more mixed picture. For some, the government is even considering compensation.

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris have come to a close, and while countless athletes shined, the games’ organizers brought shame to this global event.

Ominous signs began even before the opening night of the games. The opening ceremony’s creators told French media in July that their show would be an anti-“Puy-du-Fou.” Puy-du-Fou is a popular French theme park in the more conservative Vendée region with spectacular shows that celebrate French history, culture, and religion. Why would the creators want to make the opposite of that?

Olympics organisers are facing fresh questions about the conditions in the athletes’ village and the water quality in the River Seine, after a gold medallist was spotted sleeping in a park, and a number of athletes have fallen ill. There’s been headache after headache for Paris Games officials through the first week of competition – and two of the biggest talking points have been the athletes’ village and River Seine.

Yet countries do offer their own financial rewards for winning medals.

Last week, UK culture secretary Lisa Nandy made it plain that she had no objections to men competing in women’s competitions in this year’s Paris Olympics. The sporting bodies know best, she claimed, and should be allowed to make their own rules around sex and gender as they see fit.

The French progressive elites whose woke idiocy has been on full display during these Paris Olympics are noxious.

The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, particularly the appalling mockery of The Last Supper, has been roundly condemned, and deservedly so. The ridiculous “Bacchic Tableau” and the even more ridiculous post facto claim that this was innocent fun were disgusting. In offering such a lame apology, the International Olympic Committee and the Paris Organizing Committee have fully earned our scorn. This, however, was all of a piece with a literal parade of insult and bad taste, exemplified by the repeated “beheadings” of Marie Antoinette, among other outrageous nonsense.

Men beating up women, Mocking Christians, Muslim Hitlers, A child rapist, the French. What is there not to hate?

Olympic teams at the summer games in Paris are ordering in emergency supplies of meat and eggs after event organizers promoted a vegan diet for the world’s elite athletes.

On Tuesday, The Australian reported “more than 700kg of eggs and a tonne of extra meat” was called in “to replace fake meat meals and non-dairy options.” The food orders were placed “as athletes rail against the Vegan Olympics.”

Over the next two weeks, three billion people will watch the Summer Olympics in Paris. And French taxpayers will spend more than $11-billion to host what is little more than a two-week party and receive little-to-no net benefit.

Like with past such events around the world, purpose-built infrastructure will either be disassembled or retained for decades at tremendous cost in regular maintenance and upkeep for the occasional event that will use it but otherwise sit idle.
