Dispatch: French town caught up in ‘war’ between police and migrants

For years, residents of Grand-Fort-Philippe in the north of France lived a life largely undisturbed by migrants who attempted crossings from their local beaches.

Relations were cordial even.

Many in the town would exchange polite bonjours with the men, women and children biding their time in the small seaside town located between Calais and Dunkirk until weather conditions turned in their favour.

Italy’s Meloni Scores a Victory on Illegal Immigration as the Rest of Europe Is Reeling

Can someone please put this woman in charge of the southern border, and pronto? Based on her recent success in staunching the flow of illegal migrants, the prime minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, might work wonders where Vice President Harris has, for the most part, failed.

According to new figures from the Italian interior ministry, illegal arrivals in 2024 to date have fallen by 65 percent compared to last year, with 40,138 migrants disembarking on Italian shores as of August 27 compared to 113,469 over the same period in 2023.

The East Rises in Germany, and So Does Political Extremism Like People Wondering Why Citizens Are Shortchanged To Accommodate Stabby Migrants

Anna Wenske, 69, worked for decades at the national theater of East Germany, where she was born and still lives. “After the reunification, everything went kaput,” she said. She lost her job and her savings; it took her years of part-time work to reach a kind of equilibrium.

Now she resents what she considers the easy path offered to refugees while Germans suffer.

“Too many people exist on this planet and everyone wants to come to us,” she said in a sunny Weimar, “and we tell everyone welcome and we have nothing left for ourselves.” When it comes to Ukraine, she said, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia lied when he said he would not invade, “but I don’t trust the United States any more than Russia.”

The proposal – which has been referred to as the “snitch law” by some – was among the many measures included in a 2022 agreement struck between four rightwing parties in the country. The deal paved the way for a coalition government involving three centre-right parties with parliamentary support from the far-right anti-immigration Sweden Democrats (SD).
