Happy Canada Day – The Canadian flag in the context of ‘Freedom Convoy’ and residential schools

Canada Day usually arrives in an explosion of red and white, with citizens and newcomers waving this nation’s flag to celebrate.

But months after the ‘Freedom Convoy’ forced downtown Ottawa to a standstill, with Canadian flags billowing from trucks and prominently displayed in protest crowds, some Canadians are reconsidering what the flag means to them. And ever since the discovery of unmarked graves at residential schools that brought to the forefront the devastating impact of colonialism in this country, the question of whether the Canadian flag is worth rallying around has been more complicated than ever.

Officer was ‘choked,’ four people arrested in ‘interaction’ at the National War Memorial: Ottawa police

Ottawa police say an officer was choked in a confrontation at the National War Memorial.

Police say they are reviewing video of the incident but the “initial investigation” found an interaction between officers and individuals at the site became “confrontational” after one officer was choked.

Other officers then responded and four people were arrested.

Still no idea what went on.

Government-funded school pamphlet calls Canada’s Red Ensign a “hate symbol”

A booklet made for school children that calls the Red Ensign flag a hate symbol and identifies the Conservative Party as a target of “infiltration” by racists was approved by Cabinet yesterday as a taxpayer-funded project.

“This new resource will be delivered through workshops in schools across the country and it will help raise awareness with students,” Diversity Minister Ahmed Hussen told reporters. The booklet would help “teach core values to our kids,” he said.

Trudeau’s Liberals are funding hate. How else to describe the speakers at this Toronto convention?

Homosexuality is filthy, and homosexual acts warrant the death penalty. Christian Arabs who protect Jews from murderers are traitors. A man should be permitted to beat his wife.

I used to report on this exact sort of thing for years but gave up in frustration. Sad to say it’s nothing new, in fact it just keeps getting worse because our politicians are vile cowards. That’s how diversity strengthens us.

GOLDSTEIN: Despite political rhetoric, the world’s going back to fossil fuels

Sensing now is not the time, the Trudeau government is delaying until next year a second carbon tax that will increase the cost of gasoline by an estimated five to 11 cents per litre by 2030.

Called the Clean Fuel Standard, the new regulations requiring producers to reduce the carbon intensity of gasoline and diesel fuel, originally scheduled to be implemented this year, have been pushed back until 2023.

Sure hope we don’t see gas riots!

Some of Canada’s entitled politicians blame you for the public’s low regard of their sacrifice

Politicians say their jobs are loathsome. But they’re part of the reason why

It’s probably a good thing Canada is avoiding a federal election for the next few years. It might take that long to find people willing to run for office.

All of the political news of late seems like a repeated warning label against the toxicity of a career in public life.

On Monday, it was B.C. Premier John Horgan who hopped on the exit ramp, announcing he no longer had the energy required to stay long-term in office. Though Horgan has emerged cancer-free from punishing radiation therapy earlier this year, the premier took a long hard look at his life and decided it needed to be politics-free as well.

Currently the goal of our put upon elected representatives seems our impoverishment. Few but they are better off since the Liberals were elected. Our mainstream political parties are an indistinguishable blob of entitlement hurt at the very suggestion they are not the objects of our unwavering admiration.

We need term limits. The bureaucracy has to be gutted and it’s predatory unions crushed, automation can easily handle the work most do anyway. That would be a great start.

Explosive devices found in vehicle connected to B.C. bank robbers killed

SAANICH, B.C. — Multiple explosive devices were found in a vehicle related to the two suspects who were gunned down outside a bank in Saanich, B.C.

Saanich Chief Const. Dean Duthie said Wednesday an RCMP explosive disposal unit was able to transfer the devices from the vehicle to a local landfill and destroy them.

I say again…This level of commitment is not typical of everyday garden variety bank robbers. I suggest they may be linked to the Coastal Gas terror attack.

Trudeau’s Canada: Support Free North Declaration, Or Lose Our Country

Responding to Covid-related draconian directives, a group of Canadian lawyers have united to produce a petition called the Free North Declaration. With 90,000 signatures from citizens, as well as 640 signatures from lawyers, its tenets speak to a poorly understood transition in Canadian society.

Under its directive, citizens are urged to sign to support maintenance of Canada’s most cherished values– freedom of expression, freedom of association– rights that Canadians remained privy to for decades.

Then came Covid-19. Despite media presentation, ramifications of the pandemic extend far beyond virus vaccinations.

With Covid as justification, our Liberal government has instilled an erosion of individual rights in society. Neither media, nor academia, have reflected this reality. The common perception is one of maintenance of personal rights manifest in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Trudeau government has been cagey enough to stop short of mandatory vaccines. It does not suggest that their game plan stops short of social coercion.

One of the judges who presided over the court hearings of Freedom Convoy organizers is speaking out after receiving threats considered serious enough to require police intervention, according to information obtained by Radio-Canada and CBC.

The judge in question confirmed that supporters of the convoy from Canada and the United States sent several offensive messages, but the message that prompted police to react threatened their physical safety, the judge said.
