Albertans will finally have a say on Canada’s equalization program

Canada’s system of fiscal federalism and equalization is fundamentally broken and Albertans are finally being given the chance to do something about it.

During next week’s municipal elections, Albertans will have the rare opportunity to participate in direct democracy and vote on the fairness of Canada’s equalization program. Specifically, they will be asked whether equalization payments should be removed from the constitution.

Canadian auto production ‘being hit hard’ by global semiconductor shortage

To be an autoworker in Canada this year has meant living with a fair bit of uncertainty.

“There’s no consistency,” said Mark Sciberras, president of the Unifor local branch at Ford Motor Co.‘s Oakville, Ont. operations. “One week to the next, you don’t know if you’re working.”

The Oakville plant, like so many auto assembly lines globally, has seen its production start and stop numerous times this year because of the severe semiconductor chip shortage caused by pandemic-related production issues and a surge in demand for electronics.

Ontario government admits that vaccines can cause myocarditis

On September 29, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMO) issued a statement tacitly admitting that some vaccines appear to cause myocarditis.

In his statement, CMO Kieran Moore recommended that Ontario begin issuing Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines exclusively out of “an abundance of caution” resulting from an analysis of adverse events following immunization with the various vaccines.
