FUREY: StatsCan report looks at undetected cancers, other harms caused by restrictions

A new Statistics Canada report that highlights delayed cancer screenings, mental health woes and the damage caused to low-income Canadians is a damning indictment on the many voices who called for ever-tighter lockdowns without appropriate concern for the harms that they were inflicting on their fellow Canadians.

Should vaccinated people across Canada get certain freedoms? Here’s what health experts say

Ontario health officials are asking people who are vaccinated to continue following COVID-19 safety rules until more people get inoculated — but some health experts say Canada’s vaccinated population should get some freedoms, including socializing indoors without masks and physical distancing.

Soldier Who Made An Attempt on Trudeau’s Life Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

Yep:

A Canadian soldier who crashed his truck through security gates around Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s home and prowled the grounds with three loaded guns was sentenced to six years in prison on Wednesday.

“Corey Hurren committed a politically motivated armed assault intended to intimidate Canada’s elected government,” Judge Robert Wadden of the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa said in his sentencing verdict.

“Health Minister” Whines That Canadian Bishops Are Making a Note of Morally Sketchy Flu Shots

Some of these so-called vaccines are derived from aborted babies. Ethically, this presents a series of problems, mostly for bishops who must advise their flock, as is their vocation.

That sort of discernment is most troublesome for a government that has been used to being morally and politically corrupt and inept:

Health Minister Christian Dubé has criticized the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops over its vaccine advice.

The bishops suggested that Catholics should “prefer” the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines because they are more “morally acceptable” than those being produced by AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

Norman Bethune Wasn’t a Good Doctor Nor Is He a Hero

But don’t take my word for it.

Blacklock’s Reporter, an Ottawa-based news site focused on government business, reports that Parks Canada will use Mandarin-language services at Bethune Memorial House in Gravenhurst, Ontario as part of a bid to  “move visitors, volunteers and partners to act as proud ambassadors of Bethune’s values, achievements and humanitarian ideals” and “introduce Parks Canada to a broader audience, in particular of Chinese descent.” Noting that Bethune’s birthplace is one of Canada’s least-visited national historic sites, it hopes to have it recognized by 2027 as “a place of inspiration.” …

He remained relatively obscure in Canada until former prime minister Pierre Trudeau — who had a soft spot for strongmen like Mao and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro — visited China in 1973. The government bought the Bethune house the same year, turning it over to Parks Canada as a national historic site. Bethune has since become the sort of figure who — like James Naismith or the Mad Trapper of Rat River —  gets immortalized in official Canadiana as evidence we do indeed have a fascinating past filled with interesting people.

Royal Family is Finally Providing Bang for the Buck

I’m from Canada, part of the British Commonwealth. It’s estimated that the royal family costs each of us in the Commonwealth $1.58 in U.S. dollars per year. The question for those paying taxes to the monarchy has always been whether we’re getting our money’s worth. Now that certain family members are putting on a show that costs far less than a monthly Netflix subscription, perhaps the answer is finally yes.

Derek H. Burney: Canada is caught in a perfect storm of dysfunction. Muddling through is not the answer

Today, Canada faces a perfect storm of dysfunction at various government levels and with key Canadian institutions. Muddling through is not the answer. The public is increasingly frustrated over the inability of governments to manage the pandemic. Trust is at a low ebb and no one really knows who or what to believe. Beyond the impact of the virus itself, consequences are spiralling downwards for the economy, the budget, public education and the mental health of Canadians of all ages.

Legal challenge launched seeking end to government quarantine hotels

The Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF) is launching a legal challenge to the Trudeau government’s mandatory quarantine hotels.

In a statement on Monday, the CCF said it will argue that forcing people to stay in quarantine hotels and pay out of pocket violates the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The CCF is joining five individuals who were forced to stay in quarantine hotels after travelling abroad for compassionate reasons, such as attending a funeral or attending to a spouse who received surgery abroad.

Trudeau Labels Canada’s Economic Recession a “She-cession”

Yesterday on International Women’s Day rather than addressing the economic downturn Canada is facing with real solutions Prime Minister Justin Trudeau instead turned Canadians’ economic troubles into an opportunity to virtue signal, labeling the economic recession a “she-cession”.

Yes, that is correct Trudeau is actually trying to make the economic pains of Canadians a gendered issue.
