George McLeod: Seeking friendlier alternatives to China

Recent statements by Canada’s ambassador to China, Dominic Barton, that Canada should “seize opportunities in a rising China,” demonstrate that Canada is taking the wrong approach to the PRC. Rather than treating the two Michaels fiasco as a speed bump in an otherwise productive relationship, Canada should view it as an urgent call to divest and scale-down its ties with China.

Gonna be tough to change course, the China Class is well embedded in our political and business classes.

Exit of top public health agency official leaves questions on Chinese military involvement with high-security disease lab

Iain Stewart played a central role in government efforts to block publication of documents regarding the firing of two scientists from a Winnipeg microbiology lab

OTTAWA — The recent departure of the head of the Public Health Agency of Canada could stymie opposition efforts to uncover details surrounding a high-security microbiology lab in Winnipeg, where two scientists were fired earlier this year for undisclosed reasons.

China condemns Canada, U.S. for sending warships through Taiwan Strait

The Chinese military on Sunday condemned Canada and the United States for each sending a warship through the Taiwan Strait last week, saying they were threatening peace and stability in the region.

China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as its own territory and has mounted repeated air force missions into Taiwan’s air defence identification zone (ADIZ) over the past year, provoking anger in Taipei.

China sent about 150 aircraft into the zone over a four-day period beginning on Oct. 1 in a further heightening of tensions between Beijing and Taipei that has sparked concern internationally.

Terry Glavin: Canada needs a new ambassador to China — Dominic Barton must go

You could say that four days is not exactly a decent interval between Beijing’s release of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor and Canada’s ambassador to China returning to his habit of loudly pimping for profits from greasy state-backed enterprises in Xi Jinping’s People’s Republic.

Canada’s China Class and the Liberal Party – there really is no difference.

Trudeau’s scandalous collaboration with Communist China’s slave regime delayed made-in-Canada COVID-19 vaccine plans

Failed deal with China delayed made-in-Canada COVID-19 vaccine plans

The federal government’s failed collaboration with a vaccine manufacturing company in China early in the pandemic has led to a delay of nearly two years in efforts to create a made-in-Canada COVID-19 vaccine.

Government documents obtained by The Fifth Estate show that Canadian officials wasted months waiting for a proposed vaccine to arrive from China for further testing and spent millions upgrading a production facility that never made a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) signed an agreement with Tianjin-based CanSino Biologics in early May 2020 to “fast-track the availability of a COVID-19 vaccine in Canada for emergency pandemic use.”

Liberal Party’s ambassador to Beijing urges Quisling China class to seize opportunities in communist slave state

By many accounts, Dominic Barton was deeply involved in the negotiations that freed Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig from Chinese prisons.

But as the crisis with China raced toward a surprise resolution last month, Canada’s ambassador to Beijing also took time to urge Canadian companies to mine the country’s business potential.

Soon Freeland will call for a Tripartite pact…

NB: The ‘China Fantasy’ is dying a public death

Chinese Regime’s Widespread Influence Operations in Canada Documented in French Report

Comprehensive report reveals the extent of China’s influence and propaganda operations around the world

Chinese regime influence operations in Canada are broad and pervasive, according to a comprehensive report published by a French government-affiliated think tank.

From stifling dissident voices to influencing politics, media, and education, from manipulating information to utilizing local organizations, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is using every non-kinetic means in its toolbox to sway Canada and Chinese-Canadians, says the report, titled “Chinese Influence Operations: A Machiavellian Moment.”

China suck up Trudeau urged to join allies in tougher China stance after Kovrig, Spavor release

… Some analysts saw hints of a potentially tougher approach in what appeared to be a throwaway line in a congratulatory note that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent to his new Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, this past week.

Trudeau twice used the label “Indo-Pacific” to stress the importance of co-operating with Japan on shared regional interests.

For some observers, that was a signal that Canada was moving toward a tougher posture toward future relations with China.

Justin will look out for the interests of the China class.

Conservatives blast Liberals over “deafening silence” on Taiwan

Conservative MPs took to social media this week to blast the Liberal government’s inaction on recent incursions into Taiwanese airspace by China.

Both MP Michael Chong and recently-elected MP Melissa Lantsman made separate statements on social media calling for immediate action to support the island nation.

Corbella: If Trudeau allows Huawei into Canada’s 5G network all 38 million Canadians could be held hostage

If Canadians think China’s hostage diplomacy with the two Michaels was bad, they need to understand that the communist regime could hold all of Canada hostage if our country’s federal government allows Huawei Technologies to provide any part of our 5G wireless network.

Fifth-generation wireless technology will make driverless cars, remote surgeries and other marvels of technology possible — as well as simply faster entertainment downloads. But it could also unleash devastation at the hands of a hostile regime, as China has proven to be over the past few years.

Canada Should Work More With Five Eyes to Counter China and Russia Threats: Report

Canada should collaborate more with its partners in the Five Eyes intelligence alliance to confront the challenges China and Russia pose to the liberal democracies in the West, a new report says.

Titled “Evolving the Five Eyes: Opportunities and Challenges in the New Strategic Landscape,” the report says the members of the Five Eyes—Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and New Zealand—could work together to expand the ability of the alliance to counter China and Russia on a wider range of fronts, particularly in the areas of technology, information, military, and economics.

Trudeau and the China class will probably cause Canada to leave “Five Eyes.”

Communist China’s Mouthpiece In Canada’s Senate Plays Race Card

Yuen Pau Woo China’s Man In Canada

Senator accused of being China’s ‘mouthpiece’ worries about rise of anti-Asian racism

OTTAWA – Last June, 33 Canadian senators voted to defeat a motion decrying China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims as a genocide.

While they all faced criticism from some quarters, only one — Sen. Yuen Pau Woo, leader of the Independent Senators Group — seems to have been singled out as an alleged stooge of China’s communist regime, told to resign and “go home.”

Last week, Woo got a similar reaction when he tweeted about the release of Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, the two Canadians arbitrarily detained by China for nearly three years in retaliation for Canada’s arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou at the behest of the United States.

The Meng-Michaels saga ended, Canada is turning back to its Huawei 5G controversy — and the potential of public backlash

…  A decision on Huawei’s participation is part of a broader national security review of next-generation wireless technology. The new technology is as much as 100 times faster than existing 4G technology.

But the decision had seemingly been stalled as Canada’s relationship with the People’s Republic of China spiralled during the saga of Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou and Canada’s “two Michaels.”

One pollster said those events would make it hard for the Canadian government to now allow Huawei access to the 5G network.

Failing to block Huawei’s involvement would result in swift backlash from Canadians, in fact, predicted Mario Canseco, president of Vancouver-based polling firm Research Co.

There is no reason to delay Huawei’s exclusion. But Trudeau is the figure-head of Canada’s China class and he will protect their interests above all others.

Tasha Kheiriddin: Liberals must demand probe into any China election meddling

It’s a common trope that foreign policy is never a ballot question. As riled up as Canadians got about Afghanistan in our recent election, research showed it had little impact on the choices they ultimately made. Bread and butter issues like childcare or concerns about climate change mattered more than how well the prime minister performed — or did not perform — on the world stage.

Or did it?

Oh yea, Justin will be right on this, as soon as the China class gives him the go-ahead.

The 2 Michaels are home. But what about the 115 Canadians still detained in China?

All eyes were on Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor on Saturday as the two returned home following nearly three years spent in apparent arbitrary detention in China.

Heartwarming images and video surfaced of the two reuniting with their families. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday called their homecoming “good news for all of us,” noting that they had both gone through an “unbelievably difficult ordeal.”

But as of Sunday at least 115 Canadians remain in custody in Chinese prisons, Global Affairs Canada said in an emailed statement to Global News. Not all Canadians imprisoned in China are in arbitrary detainment, but the agency said at least four of those jailed are on death row.

It appears most are drug dealers…
