PM Gropey Blasts Montreal Canadiens for drafting player who violated woman’s consent

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau The Lying Hyprocrite said today the Montreal Canadiens showed a “lack of judgment” by drafting an 18-year-old who was fined recently for sharing sexual explicit photos of a woman without her consent.

Trudeau Gropey is the latest high-profile figure to criticize the NHL club over its decision to select Logan Mailloux for its first-round pick in Friday’s entry draft.

“As a life-long Habs fan, I am deeply disappointed by the decision,” Trudeau Blackie told a news conference today.

Philip Cross: The Liberals’ slippery climate goals

Liberals pulled imaginary emissions levels out of the air and then made exaggerated claims about a new policy when in fact nothing changed

The federal budget in April reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to a 36 per cent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. But the prime minister and his government have noisily trumpeted that Canada will reduce emissions by 40 to 45 per cent by 2030. Which target is Canada really committed to? As is usually the case with this government, there is less here than meets the eye.

Liberal ideologues’ continued support of Justin Trudeau is the party’s great, unshakable shame

Like all political parties, the Liberal Party is a coalition of ideologues and opportunists: those who enter politics to get something done, and those who are in it for something to do. It has ever been thus.

What has changed is the correspondence between the two. In previous generations, the ideologues made use of the opportunists to achieve their ends. To do things like, say, medicare, you first had to get into government. If that meant consorting with rather less high-minded types – thugs, to be blunt, but thugs skilled at getting elected – so be it. For the ideologues, the ends justified the means.

Today the relationship is the reverse.

Liberals’ attempt to shield documents on fired scientists violates parliamentary privilege, Speaker tells court

“This constitutionally entrenched power is fundamental to our system of parliamentary democracy, and to Parliament’s critical role in acting as the ‘grand inquest of the nation’ and in holding the executive branch of government to account,” Rota’s notice says.

Jack M. Mintz: Get ready for naughty little taxes

Our deficit-plagued federal and provincial governments are readying themselves with a host of potential tax hikes for an unsuspecting electorate. Most experts focus on the big taxes — income, payroll, property and sales — that may need higher rates to feed politicians’ insatiable appetite for public spending. But the taxes that show up more often are the naughty little ones that slip by without much reaction.

Liberals’ attempt to shield documents on fired scientists violates parliamentary privilege, Speaker tells court

Justin Trudeau Xiangguo Qiu Keding Cheng – Everybody say Xi

OTTAWA — A federal attempt to shield documents related to the firing of two scientists is a violation of parliamentary privilege and must be tossed out of court, House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota says.

In a notice of motion filed Thursday in Federal Court, Rota says the House, by virtue of its parliamentary privileges, has the power to send for the “persons, papers and records” it deems necessary to its functions.

Sajjan directed military to provide suspended cop crony with job

OTTAWA – Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan told the military to create a position eventually filled by a reserve officer from his old unit who had been ordered suspended from the Vancouver police for an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, according to newly released briefing notes.

Sajjan also wanted the military to upgrade the position less than two months after Maj. Greg McCullough was hired because the minister wanted even more support in his home riding in Vancouver, according to the notes, though that request did not become reality.

The briefing note comes amid lingering questions over how and why McCullough ended up in the unique position before his removal last month following revelations about the complaint and disciplinary action taken against him while he was a sergeant in the Vancouver police.

Rex Murphy: Desecration of 48 churches is a national tragedy, yet government seems to care little about Christians

Considering the scale of these events, the reaction has been utterly underwhelming

It’s obviously something of a politico-religious week, as the federal government is hosting two summits, on two consecutive days this week, on combating anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

Needless to say, the prime minister will be present at both. I don’t suppose anyone will draw objections to such meetings, or their intention of removing, or at least reducing, discrimination against either of these two religions.
