At Poilievre’s Montreal rally, disenchanted Liberals join Conservative loyalists

Yes, longtime Conservative voters joined Pierre Poilievre’s rally in Montreal on Friday. But worryingly for Justin Trudeau’s Liberals, so did a growing number of disenchanted former Liberal supporters.

Held at the Mega Centre des Sources in Pointe-Claire, a suburban strip mall, the event of around a couple hundred drew voters looking for change, with cost of living and identity politics firmly on people’s minds.

Pierre Poilievre’s love affair with labour hits a fork in the road

Like teenage infatuation, it burned bright and fizzled quickly, with one party barely aware the love affair had begun. This week, the Conservatives appeared to mark the end of their outward courtship of organized labour.

For a while, it seemed Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was serious about standing up for workers’ rights. He’d picked up the ball from former leader Erin O’Toole, reaching out to blue-collar workers, especially those in private-sector unions, hoping to mimic Ontario Progressive Conservative Premier Doug Ford’s early success.

He could easily demonstrate his support for all Canadians by announcing a ban on the cheap labour imports granted the shifty-eyed corporate class.

But he won’t.

Bell: Poilievre says Canada is in ‘a very dangerous place’ with Trudeau

Conservative party Leader Pierre Poilievre is not a man known to pull his punches.

So when it comes to the latest obscenity from the theatre of the absurd also known as the Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, why would he hold back?

Especially now, when the country needs strong leadership and is left with Trudeau instead.

An interesting thread, you can bet she’ll never be allowed this close to Poilievre again.

Poilievre could receive and make public the names of Conservatives allegedly tied to foreign meddling, former top spy says

OTTAWA—Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre could potentially receive the names of Conservatives allegedly tied to foreign meddling activities — and reveal that information to the public, a former head of Canada’s spy agency says.

“The (Canadian Intelligence Security Service) can do what it wants or say what it wants, as long as it doesn’t violate a federal statute or the Constitution,” said Richard Fadden, who also served as national security adviser to both prime ministers Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau.

This has devolved into a big circle jerk.

The return of Trump has Poilievre talking about a crackdown beyond the U.S. border

… On Sunday, he called for a crackdown on people coming to Canada – tightening visa requirements to make it harder to visit and setting a cap on the number of asylum-seekers.

For a long time, Mr. Poilievre didn’t go there. His party wanted MPs and candidates to steer clear of anything that suggested tough talk on immigration. It’s only in the last few months that

Mr. Poilievre has ramped up criticism of the Liberal government’s failure to control a surge of temporary residents.
Now, he’s talking about cracking down on “false refugees” and warning “our Canadian jobs are being taken.”

A good start but he better learn how to pronounce the words “mass deportation” because Trudeau has literally allowed millions of illegal alien scammers to remain in Canada.

Agents of Indian government interfered in Patrick Brown’s Conservative leadership campaign: sources

Agents of the Indian government allegedly attempted to derail Patrick Brown’s campaign for the leadership of the Conservative Party in 2022, according to sources who spoke to Radio-Canada.

Brown’s national campaign co-chair, Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner, allegedly was pressured to withdraw her support for Brown in the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada leadership race, confidential sources told Radio-Canada.

Rempel Garner categorically denies the allegation.

Pierre Poilievre is trying to own Justin Trudeau for respecting international law says Blackie’s Star

There was a time when sneering at international law would not have been a good look for someone aspiring to be Prime Minister of Canada.

But, charting new territory, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre contemptuously called Justin Trudeau “woke” for indicating Canada would abide by a ruling of the International Criminal Court (ICC) — a court that Canada helped establish to punish war criminals.

Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives keep finding dirt on the Liberals. They can thank their favourite punching bag

Does Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre have a secret team of intrepid researchers digging away in the backrooms of Parliament Hill?

After all, just look at how relentlessly the Tories have been going after the foibles and follies of Justin Trudeau’s government.

Most recently it was the controversies over Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault’s conflicting claims about his family’s Indigenous background that eventually forced his resignation.

Fire Trudeau for backing arrest of Netanyahu, says Canada opposition leader

The head of Canada’s opposition has called for Justin Trudeau to be fired for saying his government would abide by an international arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister.

Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, which will take on Mr Trudeau’s Liberals in next year’s election, criticised Canadian premier for his “extreme” views.

“He’s interested in arresting the leader of a democratically-elected government, the state of Israel, which has been besieged by terrorists and foreign tyrants attacking its land,” Mr Poiliever said in a radio interview in Canada.

‘TEMPORARY TAX TRICK’: Poilievre not buying Trudeau’s ‘GST Holiday’

Tory leader Pierre Poilievre debunked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s grand gesture of a two-month GST break on restaurant bills, processed food and children’s toys.

The Liberals announced Thursday morning the federal government would suspend GST on selected items from mid-December to mid-February, plus send all Canadians who filed a tax return, worked in 2023 and made less than $150,000 a $250 rebate in the spring.

Geoff Russ: To defeat wokeism, Poilievre must prepare for a long war of attrition

Pierre Poilievre stepped into the culture war on Sunday with a video decrying the assaults on Canada’s national culture that have erupted during Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government. Some of these are the direct fault of that government, such as the new passports that demean and cheapen Canadian heritage.

Are Poilievre and the Conservatives headed towards a “loveless landslide”?

There’s always value in watching what’s going on in other countries to learn something about what is happening in your own.

As someone fascinated by British politics, I’ve been closely watching the political developments in the United Kingdom over the past year, particularly Labour’s 2024 electoral victory.

He won’t differ much on immigration from Trudeau, the numbers may come down but the pattern won’t change as Canada becomes the 3rd world.

He will play identity politics, just more discreetly.

Will he defund CBC? A little maybe but my guess is he will leave it mostly intact. He’ll still campaign on defunding of course.

Will he continue to fund the news media? Yes.

Will he end affirmative action hiring that legalizes discrimination against whites and especially white males? Not likely.

Will he do a DOGE on our massive public service vote bank? Not if he can swing it to his favour.

He won’t be Justin Trudeau and for most that’s all they need.

Painting Tories as ‘Trump-lite’ not a winning strategy for Liberals post-U.S. election, say strategists

Liberal MPs need to stop comparing Canada’s Conservatives to Donald Trump’s Republicans as that strategy is losing its persuasive power following the U.S. presidential election, say observers.

Former Liberal staffer Olivier Cullen was among several strategists who advised the Liberal government to avoid such language.

“Positioning yourself as running against Trump-lite may not be the best approach,” he said.

How the Poilievre Tories think they’ll beat Canada’s conservative urban curse

OTTAWA — Right-leaning parties west of Ontario have been left with just a handful of urban seats after October’s provincial elections, but pundits say this won’t necessarily slow down Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s momentum in major cities, so long as he stays focused on the issues affecting urbanites.

“My sense, from people I talk to, is that the Conservatives are still in pretty good shape here,” said Matt Spoke, a Toronto-based real estate investor and tech entrepreneur.
