I couldn’t name Princess Anne’s (not sic) kids, or Edward’s. I thought Princess Diana (sic) was an unstable and dangerously narcissistic woman when she was alive and my opinion hasn’t changed. (Somewhat OT but this from Peter Hitchens is interesting.)

Still, I admit to a morbid train-wreck fascination with scared, angry, confused Harry and his bargain-basement Becky Sharp. Your mileage may vary.

Canada On Track To Exceed Lofty 2022 Immigration Target

Canada is on track to exceed its immigration goal of granting permanent residency to more than 430,000 people in 2022, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said on Wednesday.

Fraser, speaking to reporters in Vancouver, also announced a plan to hire up to 1,250 workers to tackle a record high number of immigration applicants.

Canada, which depends on immigration to drive its economy and support an aging population, has been ramping up annual immigration and has a goal of adding 451,000 permanent residents in 2024.

California Advances Plan To Ban Gas Vehicle Sales by 2035

U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., wrote a letter last week calling on the Canadian government to scrap its controversial ArriveCan app for anyone seeking to enter the country, referring to the mandate as a “misguided burden” on travelers.

ArriveCan ostensibly screens incoming travelers for Covid-19 while enabling the federal government to collect a wealth of electronic data, personal information, and medical records, including someone’s vaccination status. Refusing to use the app while traveling to Canada can result in significant fines and even mandatory quarantine.

China-developed Business Park Now Open In British Columbia

The Vancouver Logistics Park opened its doors at the end of July in Surrey, British Columbia after years of planning between the Chinese and provincial governments.

To date, only 80,000 square feet of the facility has been completed but the entire project will be a massive 470,000 square feet centre and will house exhibition arenas, warehouses and business spaces.

Canada Must Slow Down And Reform Transgender Treatments For Minors

The modern revolution around sexual identity is an inspiring triumph of personal freedom: people are far more free to be who they are than they have ever been.

But recent events bring cause for a bit of caution involving minors who may be being rushed into decisions that can be difficult to reverse as they mature and evolve. Canada must reform its policies on treating youth who identify as transgender and put an end to blindly “affirmative” care that rushes children to medical transition. Injustice Is Served: Appeals Court Rules Gender Dysphoria Is ADA Disability

In a split decision on Tuesday, a three-judge panel of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that “gender dysphoria” is a protected class under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The court ruled that a male identifying as a female, named Williams, who was imprisoned in Fairfax County, Virginia should be housed with the female inmates, even though he retains male body parts.

Consensus Not Censorship

We’ve become obsessed over the past few years with the problem of misinformation. And for good reason. “Flood the zone with shit” is now standard operating procedure for a variety of interests and factions. Groups who pretend to be above that kind of thing let confirmation bias do the same work, elevating conjectures they find convenient to believe far beyond the evidentiary basis for believing them, and transmuting concurrence among prestigious groups whose biases are aligned into “authority” to which they demand deferrence. Casual information consumers become divided into two camps, the “do you own research” types who imagine, mistakenly, that they are capable of seeing through all this (and so succumb to their own confirmation bias), and those who more accurately understand that they cannot reliably distinguish truth from bullshit (and so opt out of democratic deliberation with a shrug, other than perhaps to vote for the candidates whose political party they distrust less).
