Ontario pushes for more immigration amid labour crunch

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is planning to raise immigration and skilled labour shortage issues at a meeting of premiers from across the country next week in Victoria.

The meeting is set to largely focus on health-care issues, with premiers hoping to press the government for increased Canada Health Transfer Funding.

But Ford is also highlighting labour issues in a statement about his priorities for the meeting, saying more skilled workers are needed to address a “historic labour shortage.”

Five times the Ford government went woke

Ontario premier Doug Ford heads a Progressive Conservative (PC) government, but that hasn’t kept critics from accusing him of bringing in some pretty woke policies during his first term.

The slang term “woke” is defined by Merriam-Webster as “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice).” A variation on “awake,” the definition suggests that woke people conduct themselves in a way that is fully conscious of society’s deepening sensitivities.

Most of the accusations of wokeism against the Ford government involve education, with some accusing the PCs of wanting to introduce Critical Race Theory (CRT) and gender identity ideology into Ontario’s classrooms.

Liberal MP accuses Doug Ford of “crimes against humanity”

Liberal MP Julie Dzerowicz has accused Ontario premier Doug Ford of “crimes against humanity” due to his stance on climate change.

Dzerowicz made the accusation in the House of Commons on Monday and even doubled down on the statement when questioned about it.

“These inactions (on climate change) to me are irresponsible, unconscionable and a crime against humanity,” said Dzerowicz

Ontario quietly revises its plan for hitting climate change targets

Premier Doug Ford’s government has quietly revised its plan to meet Ontario’s 2030 targets for cutting carbon emissions.

The new forecast for the province’s greenhouse gas emissions posted to a government website shows some significant departures from the reductions earmarked in the “Made in Ontario Plan for the Environment” in 2018.

The new plan does not include any reductions from greater uptake of electric vehicles, which accounted for nearly 15 per cent of the projected cuts to CO2 emissions in the government’s 2018 plan.

Doug Ford Seeks To Make Anti-Protest Emergency Powers Permanent

Ontario has mostly reopened at this point, with mask mandates, lockdowns, and vaccine mandates presumably behind the province, but it seems like Premier Doug Ford’s PC government does not want to let go of all the new powers it granted itself over the last two years.

Bill 100 was tabled by the Solicitor General, Sylvia Jones, who was the same PC MPP who tabled Bill 195, ironically named “The Reopening Ontario Act” which gave Ford the power to lockdown Ontario and add restrictions whenever he wanted.

The Ontario Establishment’s War On Parents And Children

The Ontario Progressive Conservative government has been a major disappointment to conservative Ontarians on multiple fronts since they were elected to a majority government back in 2018. Spending has not been brought under control, wasteful green technology programs have not been scrapped, and small businesses and civil rights were trashed due to draconian government lockdowns and restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ford needs to take a lesson from Alberta and cut gas taxes now

Ontario premier Doug Ford is sitting on his hands while Alberta premier Jason Kenney is delivering relief for taxpayers.

Earlier this week, Kenney announced his government would cut provincial gas taxes by 13 cents per litre in the face of skyrocketing oil prices. For a family filling up their minivan, Kenney’s tax cut means nearly $10 of savings at the pumps on every fill-up.

Doug Ford Starts Backing Off Vaccine Mandates, And It Is Purely Political

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, likely seeing the terrible optics after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau implemented the Emergencies Act, has started backpedaling on vaccination as the way to end the restrictions in Ontario.

For over a year Ford has been pushing for mass vaccination as the only way for life to go back to normal in his province, while also standing firmly by Trudeau on his attacks on the Freedom Convoy and use of the Emergencies Act.

Suddenly after witnessing the terrible international media coverage of Trudeau’s use of emergency powers on the night of the 14th, Ford woke up the next morning and started questioning the logic of vaccination for stopping the spread of the virus.

Here’s what Ontarians have to say about Ford’s state of emergency

True North’s Harrison Faulkner attended the protest to get their thoughts on the Ontario government’s decision.

Doug Ford Is Acting As Justin Trudeau’s Attack Dog Against the Freedom Convoy

Ford despite being a Progress Conservative politician has been quite warm with Justin Trudeau over the last couple of years, even seeming to help him win reelection in 2021 by distancing himself from Erin O’Toole and complementing the Liberals leadership during COVID.

Pellerin: Doug Ford’s absence on school re-opening is an abdication of leadership

After being AWOL since before the holiday break, Ontario Premier Doug Ford emerged on Dec. 28 to let everyone know a decision might be made soonish. That is nowhere near good enough. The return to school, at least in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, is Jan. 3. People needed time to get organized, and prepare mentally for whatever would be coming, even if we didn’t know all the details of what that was. We have enough stress dealing with the stuff we know about, there is no excuse to add to the anxiety by leaving millions of us, including the kids, to spin our wheels.
