For the last seven years, conventional wisdom has told us a singular story about the FBI and Hillary Clinton. That story had a clear headline: the FBI was out to get her.
Let’s go back to 2016, when the FBI was investigating both major presidential candidates in the run-up to the election.
At the time, the bureau was looking into Donald Trump’s campaign’s ties to Russia as well as Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server when she was secretary of state.

Imagine someone told you that in the run-up to a U.S. presidential election, the FBI tried to undermine a candidate at the behest of the opposing campaign by cooking up a false narrative of collusion with Moscow.
And let’s say this conspiracy implicated not just the FBI but also the White House, Justice Department, and CIA — and that nearly the entire corporate press went along with it, gleefully spreading the false narrative that this candidate was a Russian agent, running story after story of fabricated nonsense in a coordinated effort to ensure the opposing candidate won.

Never mind that they’d committed a violation of the First Amendment rights of American citizens under the Constitution. The refresher courses would fix everything.
In February, an FBI memo was leaked labeling traditional Catholic Christians as potential terrorist threats. The memo also implied those who attend the Latin Mass are potentially racists.
Catholic leaders quickly complained at the injustice of the pretext for surveillance of their coreligionists, noting the grave First Amendment infringement of the FBI surveilling conservative Christians and that Latin Masses draw Catholics from many ethnic groups. Even left-wing Catholics came to traditionalists’ defense.
The FBI uses a “glossary of terms” to look for online that could indicate someone is involved with “violent extremism,” according to documents obtained by The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project.
The flagged terms include “redpilled,” first popularized by the 1999 film “The Matrix,” “based,” “looksmaxxing,” and the names “Chad” and “Stacey.”
The FBI also flags phrases that include “it’s over” and “just be first.”

I believe the time has passed when calls to dismantle the FBI could be passed off as “fringe.”
