In Europe, recently, it was found that a news outlet that had published a speech by US Vice President J.D. Vance has now been accused of journalistic misconduct. In February 2025, Vance gave his now famous speech at the Munich Security Conference, in which he sharply criticized Europe’s heavy-handed censorship and its rapidly deteriorating democratic values. The next day, Belgian news website 21News published Vance’s speech in full, without commentary.

US cartoonist quits Washington Post over Trump, Bezos sketch

A Pulitzer Prize-winning American cartoonist has quit the Washington Post newspaper, claiming her latest sketch was axed by her editor due to its lampooning of the relationships between prominent tech and media figures and US President-elect Donald Trump.
Illustrator Ann Telnaes, 64, announced her resignation via her own Substack blog on Saturday, including a draft of the political cartoon in the post and accusing her editor of preventing her from doing the “critical job” of “[holding] powerful people and institutions accountable.”
A freedom of the press issue?
A reminder that the “press” almost universally lied about Covid about Biden’s descent into dementia and has smeared Donald Trump 24/7 since 2015.
Canadian-born journalist at centre of U.S. press freedom legal battle after refusing to identify source

Toronto-born journalist Catherine Herridge has spent 37 years working for some of the biggest media outlets in the U.S., including broadcasters ABC, CBS and Fox. But she’s now become the central figure in a high-stakes legal battle over freedom of the press and whether journalists can be compelled to disclose confidential sources.
Ms. Herridge, 60, was held in contempt of court last February by a district judge in Washington for refusing to identify the source for a story about U.S. academic Yanping Chen and her alleged ties to the Chinese military.
A Free Press Under Assualt: Attempts to Silence Newsmax, OANN

Without question, the free press in America is under assault.
In his recent speech at CPAC, former President Trump felt compelled to speak up for One America News. Why?
Journalists Mobilize Against Free Speech
A new generation of media crusaders clamor for government control over what you see, hear, and read—and for banning their competition
American journalism once thought of itself as being inherently and institutionally pro free speech. Visitors to the Newseum, the media industry’s temple of self-glorification on Constitution Avenue in Washington, were once greeted with the First Amendment inscribed across 74 vertical feet of lofty marble. The Newseum has been closed since late 2019, its operators having discovered the hard way that the public doesn’t share the media’s heroic level of regard for itself.
Amazon Employee Group DEMANDS Speech APP Parler Be Deplatformed

The “Amazon Employees For Climate Justice” group published a shrill demand that the company’s leadership do whatever it can to get Parler wiped off the internet.
Is America’s Fourth Estate (Free Press) in Foreclosure?
The “fourth estate” refers to freedom of the press. The term may have first been used by the philosopher-statesman Edmund Burke, who in 1787 highlighted the press as free and apart from the other three British “estates” — clergy, royalty and commoners.
The modern meaning, however, refers to the press as a fourth and free power — as even a “watchdog” — over the executive, legislative and judicial branches of our government. Today, however, it is the watchdog that needs watching.
Obama: It’s Impossible To Have A Democracy If People Disagree With You

The corporate practices by Big Tech companies that shut down Biden scandals are already in place. Government regulations to get rid of free speech are new, but not new for Obama.
Obama had become infamous for having the producer of The Innocence of Muslims thrown into prison after the disaster in Benghazi. “We’re going to have that person arrested and prosecuted that did the video,” Hillary Clinton would tell the father of one of the men killed there, as if a YouTube video had killed Americans and then dragged their bodies through the streets of Libya.
