Canada’s “banned” target rifles not a boon for Ukraine

Mackay suggested Justin Trudeau gather up all the “‘military-style assault rifles’ banned by our government in May 2020” and send them to Ukraine. He goes on to suggest a tax credit scheme as incentive for law-abiding Canadian sport and recreational shooters to hand over their legally-owned property, worth thousands of dollars. I’m not going to write about the wrong-headedness and fundamental injustice of this “ban,” which hasn’t actually happened, hasn’t prevented a single shooting, or saved a single life. Instead, I want to focus on the futility of the gesture as an attempt to help Ukraine.

Trudeau is still blaming law-abiding gun owners for crimes they had nothing to do with

The amnesty period for guns the Liberal government prohibited in May of 2020 was supposed to expire in less than six weeks, but this week the government extended it to October 2023. While this means gun owners are allowed to hold onto their legally-owned property for another 18 months, it also proves the Liberals are doing up their firearms policy on the back of a napkin. Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights executive director Rod Giltaca joined The Andrew Lawton Show to discuss.

Canada’s compensated confiscation of guns could start this spring

The Trudeau government may be calling it a gun “buyback,” but they’re not talking about asking Canadian citizens to turn in unwanted guns in exchange for gift cards. Instead, Liberals in charge in Canada will be demanding that the lawful owners of more than 1,500 models of firearms hand them over to the government in exchange for some cash. If they don’t, they’ll be considered criminals in illegal possession of a forbidden weapon.

Liberal government extends amnesty on ‘assault-style’ firearms until 2023

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in May 2020 he was banning more than 1,500 models of firearms, including the AR-15.

He also announced owners of these guns would have a two-year amnesty period to come into compliance with the prohibition.

The Liberal government revealed on Wednesday that the order that was set to expire in April would be extended until October 2023.

Ukraine Demonstrates the Need for Gun Protections

It’s better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.

The question of upholding the right of self-defense shouldn’t be political. Even so, supporters of the Second Amendment and our right as free people to arm ourselves are constantly attacked as wild-eyed crazies and “gun nuts.” So imagine my surprise at seeing Ukraine, a country with strict gun laws, “handing out” guns to its citizens for use as protection against the Russian invasion. It’s almost as if guns in the right hands can be used for good.

The latest “guns are bad” study is out with CDC data

CNN is clearly excited to announce the release of a new study on gun death statistics from a medical journal covering trauma surgery and acute care. We’ve seen plenty of these studies before, but this one puts a couple of new spins on how the results are tabulated that are sure to be popular with the gun-grabbing crowd. One of these twists is found in the headline at CNN, where it is breathlessly announced that gun deaths have exceeded deaths from automobile accidents in the United States in the period from 2009 to 2018.

San Jose rules gun owners must have liability insurance coverage

Gun owners in the US city of San Jose will soon be required to take out liability insurance against gun injuries or accidents if landmark legislation is given final approval.

It will be the first time anywhere in the US that people will be compelled to purchase coverage for their weapons.

The California town’s city council approved the measure on Tuesday.

But some gun owners argue it would violate their Second Amendment rights.

The decision must be ratified next month at its final reading but is expected to pass.

Beware Biden’s desperate anti-gun pivots

The Biden-Harris administration is trapped inside a hostile media spotlight, a victim of their own incompetence. They’re like a cornered animal – desperate for a way out, but clearly willing to settle for anything that would shift the public focus off of their ever-growing list of foibles. They’re a consistent bunch, that much is true. They consistently lurch from one self-inflicted crisis to another, while we pay the price for their mistakes.

A Philadelphia Congresswoman Clings to Her Gun Control Delusions Even After Being ‘Carjacked by Reality’

Some people move away from utopian thinking after being “mugged by reality.” The latest evidence of this can be seen in leftists belatedly embracing the right of self-defense amid spiking violent crime rates and a dipping police presence.

But for some truly committed ideologues, even experiencing a literal armed robbery fundamentally changes nothing. Instead, it reinforces their fantasies of “common sense” gun control that would counterintuitively stop criminals and (supposedly) make us all safer.
