Welcome to the lighter side of self-immolation, and I don’t mean the age-old debate between the classic sturdiness of a Zippo vs. the disposable convenience of a Bic. We’re here to enjoy, if that’s the correct word [Steve, that is not the correct word —editor] the best of the worst social media reactions to the rather showy protest suicide on Sunday of one Aaron Bushnell, USAF.

Hamas Joins US Leftists in Hailing Airman Who Self-Immolated: ‘Immortal’ in Palestinian Memory
Hamas, along with some prominent left-wingers in the United States, this week valorized an airman who lit himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C., in protest of the Jewish state’s war in Gaza—with the terror group saying he would live “immortal” in Palestinian memory.
“The heroic pilot Aaron Bushnell will remain immortal in the memory of our Palestinian people and the free people of the world, and a symbol of the spirit of global human solidarity with our people and their just cause,” Hamas said in a statement Tuesday, according to Al Jazeera’s Arabic news platform.
Hamas’s Death Cult Comes to America

Aaron Bushnell’s self-immolation was an act of moral blackmail, and those who have lionized him want to see more such acts.
‘We love death like our enemies love life.” That chilling mantra, expressed a decade ago by Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, has since become the terrorist outfit’s unofficial motto. “The Israelis are known to love life. We, on the other hand, sacrifice ourselves,” Hamas official Ali Baraka told a Russian interviewer less than a week after the October 7 massacre. “The thing any Palestinian desires the most is to be martyred for the sake of Allah.”
British Democracy Has Surrendered to Islamist Intimidation

In October of 1984, the Conservatives held their annual party conference in Brighton. At 2:54 a.m. on October 12th, a bomb blast cut through the hotel, ripping the frontage off the building, collapsing floors, killing 5 people, and injuring 31 others. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her husband Denis narrowly escaped being killed.
Prime Minister Thatcher’s reaction, after coming within a few feet of being blown to bits, came in her conference speech, in which she stated: “The bomb attack … was an attempt not only to disrupt and terminate our conference; it was an attempt to cripple Her Majesty’s democratically elected Government. That is the scale of the outrage in which we have all shared, and the fact that we are gathered here now, shocked but composed and determined, is a sign not only that this attack has failed, but that all attempts to destroy democracy by terrorism will fail.” That was in 1984. In 2024, we have seen the opposite of such fortitude.
US airman who killed himself outside Israeli Embassy was anarchist from religious sect
The US airman who died after setting himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC was an anarchist who grew up in a religious sect, according to reports.
Aaron Bushnell, 25, shouted “Free Palestine” as he burned after dousing himself in flammable liquid on Sunday as a protest against Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.
Since Bushnell’s death, it has emerged that he grew up in a religious compound in Orleans, Massachusetts, where his parents, Dave and Danielle Bushnell, are long-time members of the Community for Jesus church.
Israeli officials puzzled by Biden’s optimism on ceasefire deal

Senior Israeli officials said on Tuesday that they were unaware of any basis for U.S. President Joe Biden’s remarks on Monday that a hostage-for-ceasefire agreement in Gaza is imminent.
During an unannounced visit to Van Leeuwen Ice Cream in Manhattan, near Rockefeller Plaza, Biden was asked about when a ceasefire in Gaza might start.
There Can Be No Ceasefire in Gaza with Hamas in Power

For all the various efforts world leaders are investing in arranging a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, they must understand there will be no genuine prospect of peace so long as Hamas terrorists retain control of Gaza.
Numerous options have been explored in recent weeks, ranging from the Biden administration’s wide-ranging plan to address numerous regional issues, from the threat posed by Iran to reopening negotiations on Palestinian statehood, to the recent attempt by Arab nations, led by Algeria, to pass a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which was vetoed by Washington.

End UNRWA funding permanently, Israeli politicians urge Canadian government

A month after Canada temporarily halted funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, some Israeli politicians want Ottawa to make the funding freeze permanent.
Sharren Haskel, the Canadian-born member of Israel’s Knesset, said in an interview that Canada — as a significant backer of the contentious relief agency for Palestinians — should help lead the way by stop sending UNRWA money.
UNRWA should be defunded. End of story.
Will Trudeau do the right thing even if it means alienating the Hamas vote bloc?
Of course not.
This is what happens when all aid is controlled by @UNRWA and goes to Hamas only https://t.co/Bwx1AIkBHY

Hamas is keeping hostages in Rafah, IDF spokesperson stresses

Some hostages are kept by Hamas in Rafah, IDF spokesperson R.-Adm. Daniel Hagari said in an interview given at the emergency conference on challenges facing Jewish communities held in Jerusalem.
“We are fighting Hamas from the north to the south,” Hagari said. “We will finish in Rafah, it is an important city – there are hostages in Rafah,” he was quoted by Israeli media as saying at the conference.
WARMINGTON: Historians will look back shamefully at our ugly era of anti-Semitism

“F*** Jews,” said the graffiti slur on the pole on Carlton St.
“Vote Hamas,” said the slogan scrawled on the statue of iconic actor Al Waxman over the weekend in Bellevue Square. There have been swastikas drawn all over the place, as well.
Democrats brace for Gaza backlash in Michigan vote

Voters in Michigan have been organising for months to send Joe Biden a message during the state’s primary on Tuesday: “No ceasefire. No vote.”
After President Biden narrowly defeated Donald Trump in Michigan in the last election in 2020, a protest vote tied to events in Gaza is of real cause of concern for the Biden team.
The two are headed for a likely rematch in November, and in a close presidential election – as is predicted by most polls – experts say Michigan is a must-win state.
Israel kills Hezbollah commander with airstrike on car carrying him through streets of Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces says it killed a senior Hezbollah commander in an airstrike that targeted a car driving down the streets of southern Lebanon on Monday.
Video of the strike shows the car carrying Hezbollah’s Hajir chief Hassan Hussein Salami driving through the village of Majadel as an IDF aircraft locks in on the vehicle.
A bomb is quickly dropped on the car, which erupts into flames and crashes into a nearby building before stopping.

Tory MP claims there are ‘no-go’ areas in Birmingham and London amid Islamophobia row

A Tory former government minister has claimed there are religious “no-go areas” in Birmingham and a part of east London, sparking a fresh row over Islamophobia.
Paul Scully, a Conservative MP who ran to be the Conservatives’ mayoral candidate in London, made the remarks during a discussion about allegations of anti-Muslim sentiments within the party.
It comes as Rishi Sunak is under pressure over his handling of the case of Lee Anderson, who was stripped of the Tory whip after claiming “Islamists” have “got control” of Sadiq Khan.
We need to talk about Gen Z’s Palestine mania

How grim is that viral image of Aaron Bushnell screaming ‘FREE PALESTINE!’ as he goes up in flames? His tone flits from one of political fervour to excruciating pain as the fire he ignited consumes his body. He ends up hollering the slogan at an infernal pitch as his earthly self succumbs to the blaze. It is at once an image of a disturbed individual and a disturbed political culture. Of both one man’s mania and what we might call Palestine mania – an affliction of Generation Z where they experience extremes of emotion upon mere mention of the words ‘Gaza’ or ‘Israel’. It’s an affliction we need to talk about.
