Suspending financial aid to UN agency punishes Palestinians

One hundred-plus days of war. More than 26,083 people killed. More than 65,000 housing units destroyed and 1.7 million residents displaced.

Gaza is a catastrophe. And unbelievably, the situation there could get worse.

Canada and other countries have suspended funding to the UN agency that provides assistance to Palestinians in the embattled territory. The decision came after allegations by the Israeli government that a number of agency workers were involved in the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israel that killed some 1,200 people and took more than 200 others hostage. More than 100 of them are still being held captive.

Minister sorry for ‘crappy piece of land’ remark that angered pro-Palestinian groups

VERNON, B.C. – B.C. Premier David Eby says Post-Secondary Education Minister Selina Robinson needs to “repair the damage” caused by her comments that Israel was founded on a “crappy piece of land,” angering pro-Palestinian groups and triggering calls for her resignation.

Eby says the remarks were “totally unacceptable,” and “increase division” in the province at a time when people of Palestinian descent are feeling alienated.

Robinson apologized in a social media post on Thursday, saying her comments were “disrespectful,” and she had been referring to the land having limited natural resources.

US, Britain strike Yemen’s Houthis in a new wave, retaliating for attacks by Iran-backed militants

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States and Britain struck 36 Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday in a second wave of assaults meant to further disable Iran-backed groups that have relentlessly attacked American and international interests in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war.

The latest strikes against the Houthis were launched by warships and fighter jets. The strikes follow an air assault in Iraq and Syria on Friday that targeted other Iranian-backed militias and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for the drone strike that killed three U.S. troops in Jordan last weekend.

Iranian Regime’s Proxies: Target the Head of the Snake

The last few months unfolded with a marked escalation in the activities of Iran’s proxies, militias and terror groups. Iran’s proxy Hamas launched its attacks on Israel, unleashing a barrage of violence across the region. Simultaneously, Iran-backed militia groups in Iraq escalated their assaults on US bases and personnel. Another proxy of Iran, the Houthi rebels in Yemen, also caused turmoil in the Red Sea, which is vital to maritime traffic. Their actions not only threaten regional stability but also sent shockwaves through global trade routes and raised concerns about the broader implications of their destabilizing activities.

Chinese Navy Escorting Commercial Cargo Ships in Red Sea

China’s navy has started escorting Chinese cargo ships through the Red Sea, according to a shipping company and Chinese state media reports. This comes as many cargo shipping companies have decided to avoid the globally important trade passage because of attacks from Houthi rebels.

Since November, Iran-backed Houthis have launched scores of drone and missile attacks on ships passing through the Red Sea, acts that they say are in support of Palestinian militant group Hamas in the war with Israel.

Today in “What will Trudeau say to score points with Hamas supporters”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is looking into sanctions against Israeli settlers in the West Bank who have been accused of attacking Palestinians and Israeli peace activists in the territory.

On Thursday, the U.S. State Department issued financial sanctions against Israelis living in illegal settlements. Washington says the sanctioned individuals are connected to “escalating violence” against Palestinians.

“We are looking at sanctions on extremist settlers,” Trudeau told reporters Friday after an unrelated announcement in Waterloo, Ont., where he offered no update on a Canadian missing in the Gaza Strip.

Biden Must Abandon Plans to Withdraw US forces from Syria and Iraq

With Iran seemingly intent on intensifying its confrontation with the US, it is hard to imagine a worse time for the Biden administration even to consider withdrawing any of the US forces currently based in the Middle East.

Prior to the latest Iranian-sponsored attack on US forces based in Jordan, in which three serving American service personnel were killed and another 34 were injured, the White House had already opened negotiations with the Iraqi government on the future of US and other allied troops based in the country.

Not sure Old Genocide Joe has much of a say in the matter.

“NYPD, KKK. IDF they’re all the same,” the group chanted as at least one protester was seen being detained by police.

US hits hard at militias in Iraq and Syria, retaliating for fatal drone attack

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military launched an air assault on dozens of sites in Iraq and Syria used by Iranian-backed militias and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Friday, in the opening salvo of retaliation for the drone strike that killed three U.S. troops in Jordan last weekend.

President Joe Biden said in a statement: “The United States does not seek conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else in the world. But let all those who might seek to do us harm know this: If you harm an American, we will respond.”

Biden and other top U.S. leaders had been warning for days that America would strike back at the militias, and they made it clear it wouldn’t be just one hit but a “tiered response” over time.

‘Abandon Biden’: Democrats turn on president over support for Israel

There was a time when he’d have jumped at the chance – not today, not with this president.

Alabas Farhat, Democratic representative for the state of Michigan, declined the invitation for a “meet and greet” with Joe Biden and he wasn’t alone.

Arab Muslim community leaders in the greater Detroit area snubbed the campaign visit to their neighbourhood. The problem they have is Mr Biden’s support for Israel in the war with Hamas and his opposition to a ceasefire.
