A traffic warden who stabbed his wife to death in a brutal attack after she refused to let him take another spouse is facing a life sentence today after he was convicted of murdering her.

Victim Ayesha Hasan, 32, had predicted her death at the hands of violent husband Asim Hasan, 33, and told friends: ‘If something happens to me please take care of my kids.’

Mrs Hasan, 32, was found in a pool of blood in their flat in Burrard Road, Canning Town, east London. Their two children, both aged under 10, were waiting to be taken to school when Hasan stabbed her 26 times and killed her

Two Canadian women and three teenage girls who were set to be repatriated from camps for family members of ISIS suspects in Syria were instead detained and mistreated by their Kurdish guards rather than being taken to their pick-up point, their lawyer says.

The women have been missing ever since the repatriation flight to Canada took off without them more than 10 days ago.

Edmonton lawyer Zachary Al-Khatib told CBC News that one of the women was able to make a short phone call to a relative Tuesday before the line dropped after 4 minutes.

Two Canadian women and three teenage girls are missing somewhere in northeast Syria, after an attempt by the Canadian government to repatriate them earlier this month failed.

In an audio recording obtained by the Star, a Global Affairs Canada consular official tells the mother of one of the women that she is “devastated” by their disappearance.

“This has happened to other countries, and they tried to warn us, and when it did actually happen … we’re kind of shocked by it,” the senior consular official said in the April 11 call.

Whatever your opinion of the British monarchy, there is no denying her late Majesty‘s devotion to the nation. Her stoicism, her political neutrality, and the universal affection she inspired are likely to remain unparalleled. Beyond that, however, is the comfort she provided us in the traditions she upheld; a realisation that struck many of us only in the wake of her passing. The ascension of King Charles III, therefore, signals much more than a perfunctory changing of the guard. It is arguably the end of an era.

Sex offenders who have been convicted in a major investigation into child abuse in Huddersfield have been jailed for a total of over 500 years.

The conclusion of the latest trial where offenders were charged under Operation Tendersea, conducted by West Yorkshire Police, has seen offenders jailed for a total of 505 years.

Five men – who were previously jailed in earlier Operation Tendersea trial – were convicted in February and jailed at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday for a total of 28 years. The trial had been delayed from 2020 but took place over the first two months of this year.

Muslim extremist Malika El Aroud (64) has died in Belgium after a prolonged illness, De Standaard reports. El Aroud was considered one of the leaders of al-Qaeda’s Belgian cell and was known as one of Europe’s most prominent Internet jihadists.

Malika El Aroud, nicknamed ‘Mama Jihad’ or ‘the black widow of jihad’, passed away in Belgium on Thursday. Since being stripped of her Belgian citizenship in 2017, she had been living in seclusion with a relative. Afghan refugees who were rescued and brought back to the US have been accused of being racist and sexist towards those helping them, a bombshell report has found.

Some of them are said to have launched verbal abuse at staff and even turned their noses up at accommodation they were given.

The claims emerged in a State Department report that looked at the resettlement of around 73,000 Afghan evacuees brought in last year and in 2021.
