Two Canadians captured in Syria during the fight against the so-called Islamic State were arrested by the RCMP on Tuesday night after their flight landed in Montreal.
The women are the first the Canadian government has brought home from detention camps in northeast Syria for foreign ISIS members and their families.

Uthman Ibn Farooq, the San Diego Muslim preacher who told the world he was stabbed by an “Islamophobic” Christian in March 2022, has responded to an FWI story indicating that the stabbing never took place.
In a YouTube video posted earlier today (Oct. 20), Uthman claimed to debunk FWI’s reporting, but provided no details about the identity of the attacker. He did state however, that his unnamed attacker had been arrested on hate crime charges, pleaded guilty to lesser charges, and is now serving time in jail and could be transferred to a prison for the rest of his sentence. Uthman said he has forgiven his attacker and hopes to visit him in jail so he can invite him into the fold of Islam.
In France there is a continuing uproar over the torture, rape, and murder of 12-year-old Lola Daviet by an Algerian woman. “The suspect had boasted about selling body parts,” one investigator told Le Parisien. “Evidence suggests that the girl was taken into the basement of the flat, where she was tortured, and raped, before being strangled and having her throat cut.” The woman had then stuffed her body in a suitcase and dragged it to the street.

Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez appeared before the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage on Friday for one hour and walked away with a serious credibility problem. At least two Canadian women have left a detention camp in Syria holding ISIS fighters and their family members, CBC News has learned.
The women crossed from the al-Roj camp in northeastern Syria headed for northern Iraq on Tuesday morning with an unknown number of children, according to multiple sources.
The intention is that the women and children will be repatriated to Canada, the sources said.
A source with direct knowledge of the file said they received information that Canadian Kimberly Polman is out of the camp and her tent has been taken down.
