Sweden Moves To Ban Cousin Marriages

While the stated motive is combatting ‘honor-related’ oppression of women, marriages between close relatives are also twice as likely to produce children with genetic disorders.

An investigation commissioned by the Swedish government recommends banning cousin marriages and also proposes making marriages between close relatives—such as an uncle and his brother’s child, or half-siblings—illegal.

The investigation points out that cousin marriages are linked to honor-based norms, and that there is a specific risk of girls and women facing ‘honor-related oppression’ in these marriages. It also highlights that cousin marriages today happen to a considerable extent in Sweden.

“Sad Muslim” Defense Breaks New Ground In Quest For Lenient Treatment By Canada’s Racist Justice System

Kelowna man pleads guilty to multiple thefts, break ins

A Kelowna man with a criminal record spanning two provinces and two decades pleaded guilty on Monday to a new set of offences.

Saeed Abbas – Sad Muslim

Saeed Abbas, 44, admitted to a four part crime spree, including break ins, the theft of two Dodge trucks, a couple SUVs and even a possession of weapons charge. The criminal acts took place between September 2022 and January 2023, the latter date being when he started his incarceration.

… In making her case, Miller told the court that Abbas has a criminal record that started in 1999 when he was a youth offender in Calgary and since then, has amassed 25 convictions for offences including arson, theft, fraud, robbery, and vehicle thefts. He also has 22 breach charges.

… Miller also pointed out that the pre-sentence report that highlighted the trauma, racism, and poverty Abbas suffered since his parents came to Canada as refugees from Palestine is important to weigh into the equation.

The Danger of the Secularist Sensibility

The high cost of the modernist inability to take religion seriously.

Last week, Israel’s Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz, wrote an op-ed for the New York Times asking the question, “What were Hamas’s leaders hoping for, and what are Iran’s leaders seeking to achieve?” The answer began with a conversation that revealed the central problem with the West’s understanding of Islamic jihadism, one that still vitiates our foreign policy and plans for dealing with Muslim aggressors: our modernist inability to take religion seriously.

MI5 must rethink Islamic terrorism

“MI5 has one hell of a job on its hands.” That was the warning yesterday from the agency’s Director-General, Ken McCallum, in a speech which touched on everything from Russian espionage to Iranian assassination plots, and from the present competition with China to the violent echoes of last century’s conflict in Northern Ireland.

On counterterrorism, McCallum gave the “headline split” of “75% Islamist terrorism, 25% extreme Right-wing.” Despite delving into the shifting ideological configurations of the violence, McCallum underlined that the threat of most concern is still that posed by al-Qaeda and Islamic State.

Islamic sectarianism is surging in Europe

New political parties are pushing a sinister combination of anti-Israel activism and Muslim identity politics.

The Israel-Hamas war undoubtedly loomed large over the UK General Election in July. In constituencies around the country, a sizeable number of candidates ran on a pro-Palestinian platform. In some areas, campaigns were run on strictly religious lines, with groups like The Muslim Vote encouraging British Muslims to only use their votes on pro-Palestine candidates. The group had some big successes, with five ‘pro-Gaza independents’ now sitting in parliament – four of which managed to unseat incumbent Labour MPs.

Adam Pankratz: I pity the pro-Hamas students marching this week

They are on the losing side

One year after the October 7 massacre by Hamas in Israel, protesters chanting anti-Israel slogans stormed and smashed buildings at McGill, one of Canada’s premier universities. Later that same evening, on the other side of the country in Vancouver, pro-Hamas demonstrators burned Canadian flags on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery in downtown.

I am not optimistic.

“Far-right” activists fundraising for people jailed over UK riots

Far-right activists are trying to raise funds for people jailed over their roles in the summer riots, describing them as “political prisoners”, in an attempt to generate support by giving money to their families.

More than £14,000 has been raised by a leading group, which has been promoting the start of its “gifting” of funds to families of “political prisoners”.

One of the leaders of Patriotic Alternative (PA) recently met a teenager in HMP Hull who had been jailed for racially aggravated harassment during the disturbances, his wife told supporters.

OMG! Money is being given to families of people involved in riots whom far-right groups are calling ‘political prisoners’

Two tiered policing is not a myth in the UK.

John Ivison: Flag-burning Islamists in our streets would kill us with our own tolerance

I have spent the better part of 30 years in journalism misattributing to Voltaire the idea that I would defend free speech to the death, even if I disapproved of what was being said (it turns out it was a summary of Voltaire’s views by his biographer, Evelyn Beatrice Hall).

Yet, events since October 7th have revealed that there are, or should be, limits; that people cannot say things that incite real harm to others or society at large.

Hezbollah backs ceasefire attempts as Israel continues to target its leadership

Hezbollah leader

Hezbollah said it supported efforts to secure a ceasefire with Israel as the IDF continued to target its top leadership and the two armies sharply increased their bombardments.

“After the issue of a ceasefire takes shape, and once diplomacy can achieve it, all of the other details can be discussed and decisions can be taken,” Hezbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem said on Tuesday. “If the enemy [Israel] continues its war, then the battlefield will decide.”

Wikipedia labels Muslim grooming gang scandal ‘moral panic’

The title of the Wikipedia article about Muslim grooming gangs in Britain has this week been changed to include the phrase “moral panic”. Previously titled “Muslim grooming gangs in the United Kingdom”, the name was altered on 7 October to “Grooming gang moral panic in the United Kingdom”.

Every Wikipedia article has a “Talk” function which allows users to request and debate edits. The change was confirmed by a user named “Sceptre”, who wrote: “There is a consensus that, if the article is to be kept (and for the meanwhile, it is to be kept), that ‘moral panic’ should be included in the article title to reflect how the subject is dealt with in reliable sources.”

A year later, Canada’s Jews are not the same

Like most Jews, I’m not the same person I was last Oct. 6. The magnitude of what happened the next day and since then has forever changed me and the reality for Jews in Canada and abroad.

A year ago, the darkest chapter in Jewish history since the Holocaust began with the invasion of southern Israel by Hamas terrorists who carried out wide-scale atrocities and kidnapped 251 children, women and men. That hit close to home for Jews everywhere including many who have family and friends in Israel.
