Three-week lockdown needed to stop explosive COVID-19 variant growth, Ontario science table says

A three-week lockdown in certain regions of the province is necessary to blunt the explosive growth of the variants of concern, Ontario’s COVID-19 scientific advisory table says.

Dr. Peter Juni, the scientific director of the advisory table, believes Ontario could see between 2,500 to 5,000 new cases of COVID-19 per day in a few weeks, if the current trends continue.

Ontario recorded more than 1,500 cases on Wednesday, the highest single-day total since early February, owing in large part to the variants of concern which account for more than half of the new cases.

“What we’re talking about here predominantly is the Golden Horseshoe, the Golden Horseshoe has a major problem, and we need to tackle this,” Juni told CTV News Toronto.

Quarantine hotel protesters visit Premier Ford’s family biz, Deco Labels

As per usual, patriotic protesters showed up at the Radisson quarantine hotel near the Toronto airport to hopefully shuttle inmates — er, I mean, “guests” — to their homes. Alas, there were no takers on this day.

And so it was that the demonstrators decided on a whim to move their protest five minutes east to the Toronto HQ of Deco Labels, which happens to be owned by none other than Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

Ontario to blame if $11M in COVID relief aid embezzled, fired bureaucrat alleges

A former senior civil servant alleged to have embezzled at least $11 million in COVID-19 relief money is now arguing the Ontario government is to blame for any losses it suffered.

In a statement of defence filed in Superior Court this week, Sanjay Madan blames the province for allegedly lax security measures that allowed “widespread misappropriation” of money intended to defray the cost of children learning at home.

Yes I included the ‘Ontario’s Corrupt Liberal Government’ tag and you know exactly why.

Should vaccinated people across Canada get certain freedoms? Here’s what health experts say

Ontario health officials are asking people who are vaccinated to continue following COVID-19 safety rules until more people get inoculated — but some health experts say Canada’s vaccinated population should get some freedoms, including socializing indoors without masks and physical distancing.

Ontario Reports 1185 New Covid Cases

Ontario staring down possible third wave of COVID-19, but severity remains unclear

Ontario appears to be standing on the edge of a third wave of COVID-19, some experts say — but because of virus variants, vaccinations and the promise of warmer weather on the horizon, it’s unclear how severe it could be.

All of those changing variables mean predicting exactly what will happen in the coming weeks is difficult, said epidemiologist Dr. Tim Sly, a professor emeritus at Ryerson University in Toronto.

“It’s almost like a dystopian plot in a movie. On the horizon ahead you’ve got the vaccine cavalry … and on the other horizon you’ve got the mutants, all lined up, a motley bunch,” Sly said.

“It’s almost like the third act of a three-act play … it’s the crisis now. The future will be determined by this conflict, and it could go either way.”

Canadian judge revokes father’s custody of his children for stance on lockdown, masking

A judge in Ontario has revoked a man’s shared custody of his children over the man’s opinions that masks and government lockdowns are wrong, which the judge believes means he will not take measure to protect his children from coronavirus.

Another example of why the federal government should be protecting your God given rights and the border, and legal powers should increase as they move downward through states, cities, counties, neighborhoods, and families.

Ontario NDP launch environmental platform, pledge to bring back cap-and-trade system

Ontario’s New Democrats say they would create a new cap-and-trade carbon pricing system if elected in 2022.

The official Opposition made the promise in an environmental policy plank of their election platform, released on Saturday at a morning news conference.

Party leader Andrea Horwath said the province needs the carbon pricing system to help fight climate change.

Ontario doctor cautioned by regulators for spreading COVID-19 misinformation

An Ontario doctor has been cautioned by the College of Physicians and Surgeons for spreading misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines and lockdowns that could put the public at risk.

Dr. Kulvinder Gill was issued three cautions for “inappropriate” and “unprofessional” statements she posted on social media claiming that neither lockdowns nor vaccines were necessary.

On Twitter, the Brampton doctor had claimed there was “absolutely no medical or scientific reason for this prolonged, harmful and illogical lockdown,” the college wrote in its decision.

If I lived in Ontario, I’d be switching to her tomorrow.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Modelling warns another mass lockdown may be needed to control Ontario’s looming third wave

In the worst-case scenario, Ontario could see as many as 5,000 cases per day by early April, mostly made up of new variants, according to modelling by Scarsin Corporation, a Markham, Ont.-based company specializing in disease forecasting for global pharmaceutical companies such as Gilead, Bayer and Jansen.
