A Pandemic of Cruelty

There is a pandemic in the Western world — especially, but not only, in America — that few are talking about, let alone addressing.

This pandemic doesn’t actually kill people. But it does destroy people, ruin lives, crush families and cause permanent, debilitating pain – far more than have the vast majority of cases of COVID-19.

This pandemic consists of adult children who have decided never again to speak to one or both of their parents. The vast majority of these people were never sexually or physically abused. In fact, nearly all were loved by their parents.

No, asexuals are not oppressed

In today’s climate, many people like to claim that they are part of a marginalised group. This can offer a shortcut to deferential treatment, endless attention and even media opportunities. But how can you portray yourself as oppressed when you don’t really have much to gripe about? Adopting a trans identity could work. But transitioning seems like an awful lot of effort and commitment. And declaring yourself ‘nonbinary’ is a bit 2019.

A Toronto-area middle school is in crisis. Administrators pin the blame on teachers

This mural would be enough to set me off.

At Tomken Road Middle School in Mississauga, Ont., in the suburbs west of Toronto, the last day of school on Friday cannot come soon enough.

The school of 900 or so students in grades 6, 7 and 8 (aged 11 to 14) is in crisis, not only because of uncorrected misbehaviour by students that puts safety at risk and undermines every student’s education, but also because of bitter acrimony between teachers and board administration about how to respond.

Washington State’s New Climate Curriculum Attacks ‘Rational Thinking’

Teaching climate science in schools can be valuable, but not when it’s blatantly oriented toward ‘social justice’ and views rationality as an obstacle to proper learning.

One sentence from Washington State’s new high-school curriculum on climate science betrays how bizarre the discussion about teaching science has become:

For too long, science and science education have prioritized my rational thinking.

Instead of prioritizing rational thinking, the purportedly scientific curriculum argues that “we must learn to pay attention to our own emotions and those of other people.”

NYC college professor cursed out anti-abortion students tabling at school

Shellyne Rodriguez

A Manhattan college professor flipped out on a group of students who set up an information table opposing abortion inside the school building — cursing and tossing their pamphlets, video of the interaction shows.

Shellyne Rodriguez, an adjunct professor, told the pro-life students they were “triggering” her students by tabling inside Hunter College in Manhattan earlier this month.

Canada’s grave errors

Why does a country once regarded as a model of moderation and sanity now view itself as a seething den of blood-soaked bigotry and white supremacy?

Canadians used to have a reputation for being sane and moderate,” Oxford University professor Nigel Biggar said to me on a recent Quillette podcast. “If you have time, I’d like to know why you think Canada has gone the way it has.”

By “the way it has,” Prof. Biggar was alluding to my country’s strange, somewhat manic-seeming lurch into progressive radicalism since the election of Justin Trudeau, whose government now litters its policy agenda with paeans to intersectionality and anti-racism. This has been done with the express approval not just of Canada’s academic and activist establishment, but of the many Canadian journalists who now devote much of their time to hectoring readers and viewers about privilege, systemic racism and “decolonization”.

Translating Liberalspeak

Liberals often talk about things but actually mean other things. For example, “trans rights” really means elevating the trans agenda to unearned prominence and insisting people pay attention. It is not about giving trans people “rights.” They have the same rights everyone else has. They just want more. “Trans rights” also means shoveling cartloads of money into trans causes.

2 + 2 = White Supremacy: How Woke Ideologues Corrupted Canada’s Math Curriculum

Two plus two no longer equals four, according to members of the Ontario Mathematics Coordinators Association (OMCA), who consider the equation to be a white-supremacist dog whistle instead of a basic mathematical truth.

According to a webinar created by OMCA president Jason To, proponents of math’s political neutrality who use the phrasing “2 + 2 = 4” are engaged in an act of “Covert White Supremacy.”

Has the Ford government done anything to counter this lunacy?

Douglas Todd: Why being ‘woke’ is not left wing

Democratic Socialists Protest Involvement in WW II

Opinion: The identification of wokeism as left wing fractures traditional left politics and can help the rise of the right

It’s becoming uncomfortably clear the left wing of the political spectrum in North America today is increasingly divided. It’s also confused.

The old left, which has fought many successful battles for justice for all, especially for economic fairness, is having trouble understanding an emerging movement that also thinks of itself as left-wing.

It might help the Right? The Horror!

This reminds me of when the Left protested involvement in WW II – until Hitler invaded the Soviet Union and also of Trudeau warning that exposing his government’s suspicious behavior with Communist China actually helps the ChiComs undermine our society.

Two Woke Authoritarians Make Their Exit

First New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern, and now Scotland’s Nicola Sturgeon: the world’s chief nannies are quitting before voters have a chance to push them out. The pair thrived off imposing Covid restrictions, only to find far less sympathy for their blend of woke politics and authoritarian control in 2023. It seems that, freed from lockdowns, many people are no longer willing to be nudged, cajoled, hectored, censored, monitored, checked, and approved. Nor are they willing to sacrifice their rights, their children’s safety, and their standard of living to appease a leader’s appetite for hollow displays of virtue.

The use and abuse of the rise of the Nazis

There was nothing ‘democratic’ about Hitler’s seizure of power.

Ninety years after the Nazis came to power in Germany, fascism is not remotely on the rise in any real sense today. There are no militarised groups of brown-shirted men fighting street battles with Communists. And there are certainly no totalitarian dictators on the brink of storming the chanceries of Europe.

LGBTQ Advisors Appointed for Canadian Military’s Chaplain Service to Promote ‘Diversity and Inclusion’

The Canadian military has appointed LGBTQ advisors to serve in its chaplain service to promote “diversity and inclusion” within the armed forces, says a federal briefing note on Dec. 6.

“We have established senior advisor positions including an indigenous and LGBTQ advisor to Chaplain General to raise awareness, education and innovate,” said the note “Military Chaplains,” obtained by Blacklock’s Reporter.

The advisors were to “further provide diversity and inclusion within the Chaplain Service,” said the note, according to the media outlet.

The CAF’s desire to become hyper-woke puts them at cross-purposes.  Won’t the transgender chaplains meet with resistance from the ISIS recruits?
