Wokeness North: An “anti-racist” physician-education framework threatens Canada’s medical system.

Canadians often chafe at American cultural imperialism, but Canada’s health-care leaders appear set to import American-style wokeness to the country’s medical schools.

Next year, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, which oversees the training and licensure of the country’s doctors, will roll out the newest version of CanMEDS, a physician-education framework that effectively dictates the curriculum at Canada’s 17 accredited medical schools, including McGill University School of Medicine, which I attended and where I now serve on the faculty. The Royal College, established by an Act of Parliament in the 1929, proudly notes that CanMEDS is “the most widely accepted and applied physician competency framework in the world,” surpassing the equivalent system in the U.S.

UK Defence Secretary: Woke extremists are rife in Army

The Army’s time and resources are being “squandered to promote a political agenda”, the Defence Secretary has said, as he held crisis talks with military chiefs over plans to relax security checks to increase diversity.

Grant Shapps said a “woke” and “extremist culture” had infiltrated the British Army and the military needed to focus on being a lethal fighting force.

He said that, amid the threat from Russia and the conflict in the Middle East, it was “inconceivable” that he would allow the standards for security clearance to be relaxed after The Telegraph revealed military personnel wanted to relax checks to promote ethnic diversity among officers.

California’s aristocracy of lunatics

The standard TV image of a district attorney — or, prosecuting attorney — in the US is of a tough government lawyer passionate about putting bad guys behind bars. Or maybe the “DA” is a cynical, striving politician willing to bend or break the law to get a high-profile conviction on a guy who isn’t bad at all. Either way, DAs on TV like to finish the process that begins with the police arresting someone by getting a conviction, setting bars between society and a guy, usually but not always bad. The reality is very different in the smaller details, but fairly similar in the larger ones. Reality has far fewer dramatic trials than TV, for example, and much more plea-bargaining, but on the main thing — prosecutors tending to prosecute people — TV and reality are in rough agreement.

Weimar America

Max Pechstein Poster for periodical An die Laterne (To the Lamp Post) 1919 Pechstein, one of the most politically engaged artists of the early postwar period, made this poster to advertise the short-lived journal An die Laterne (To the lamp post), which promoted the incumbent Social Democratic Party. Its image of clenched-fisted, flag-carrying protestors—probably communists—marching past a man hanged from a lamppost was a warning against the mob violence and anarchy that threatened to destabilize the fledgling Weimar Republic.

A 1930s nightmare on the horizon?

Something eerie, something creepy, is happening in the world—and now in America as well. The dark mood is brought on by elite universities, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion industry, and massive immigration from illiberal nations and anti-Enlightenment societies.

At Hillcrest High School in Queens, New York, hundreds of students rioted on news that a single teacher in her private social media account had expressed support for Israel. Waving Palestinian flags, and screaming violent threats, the student mob rioted, destroyed school property, sought the teacher out and tried to crash into her classroom—before she was saved from violence by other teachers and an eventual police arrival.

Why Osama bin Laden is taking TikTok by storm

Harry Styles, Greta Thunberg, Osama bin Laden. The pin-ups of Generation Z might mystify us. But it’s important we pay attention to them – certainly to the latter, most recent entry into this rogues’ gallery.

Over the past week, the late al-Qaeda leader has been causing a stir on TikTok. Bin Laden’s ‘Letter to America’ – an anti-Western, anti-Semitic screed, penned a year after 9/11 to ‘justify’ al-Qaeda’s slaughter of innocent New Yorkers and its holy war against the West – has been blowing influencers’ minds.

Wealthy Illinois city Highland Park is forced to cancel ‘poverty simulation’ at country club to show residents what it’s like to live poor after furious backlash

A wealthy Chicago suburb has been forced to cancel a ‘poverty simulation’ event following furious backlash for hosting it at a country club.

The City of Highland Park, Illinois partnered with The Alliance for Human Services and several other community organizations to put on the event which was scheduled for Saturday at the Highland Park Country Club.

The goal was to increase residents’ understanding of what it is like to live in poverty – with the original event description reading: ‘Participants are put into situations in which they do not have enough resources and are forced to make difficult choices that can negatively impact them and their families.’

Top scientist Patrick Brown says he deliberately OMITTED key fact in climate change piece he’s just had published in prestigious journal to ensure woke editors ran it – that 80% of wildfires are started by humans

A climate change scientist has claimed the world’s leading academic journals reject papers which don’t ‘support certain narratives’ about the issue and instead favor ‘distorted’ research which hypes up dangers rather than solutions.

Patrick T. Brown, a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University and doctor of earth and climate sciences, said editors at Nature and Science – two of the most prestigious scientific journals – select ‘climate papers that support certain preapproved narratives’.

In an article for The Free Press, Brown likened the approach to the way ‘the press focus so intently on climate change as the root cause’ of wildfires, including the recent devastating fires in Hawaii. He pointed out research that said 80 percent of wildfires are ignited by humans.

Canada’s conservatives fight back against progressive school policies

An obviously aroused Justin Trudeau abandons decorum while prancing about at a Gay Pride event.

Education has become the new focal point for the country’s culture wars

Conservative and civil libertarian voices have long been stymied by Canada’s indifferent public and politicians. This provided cover for elites to run wild in schools and institutions. But now that era is coming to an end.

Forgive my male gaze

Men are no longer trusted to admire beauty

Lost in thought again, I pace the humming street with my eyes down. They get into less trouble that way. If the pavements weren’t so cluttered with abandoned rented bicycles and e-scooters, I’d try walking backwards.

I am brooding over words I wrote several weeks ago when describing that species of social embarrassment called not knowing where to look when you pass a school playground of children. “It takes me a moment to remember,” I wrote, “that a man wandering on his own must no longer pause to look at children running races in their mirth.” I did not, I now think, adequately register the sadness of that loss. Scurry from a playground for fear of appearing sinister and we might as well be scurrying from the vitality of life itself.

Somewhat off topic – I used to have a daily morning walk that took me past a daycare, same time every day.

One day a young girl of maybe 3 or 4 standing away from the other children began calling out to me, calling me “Daddy.”

The first couple of times were amusing and I walked on without concern but she did not give up her efforts.

I began to worry I was traumatizing this poor child who daily mistook me for her father.

Worse yet I was a “Dad” who ignored her.

But I dared not stop to set her right knowing the mess that could be.

I changed my route.

Humourless scolds have taken over comedy

This week, Comedy Unleashed, a free-speech-themed stand-up comedy night, was expelled from the Leith Arches in Edinburgh, after revealing that its package show had a concealed member. And so, to no one’s great surprise, this year’s Edinburgh Fringe has been blighted by yet another activist-driven cancellation. Almost exactly a year to the day since the censor’s axe fell on comedian Jerry Sadowitz’s errant todger, another impudent inflorescence has been nipped, not so much in the bud as close to the root.

Why are so many “comics” such unpleasant people?

No One Sanctioned for Royal Air Force’s Discrimination Against White Men

There have been no repercussions against any officers or top brass after Britain’s Royal Air Force was exposed as having violated equality laws by actively discriminating against white men in favour of women and ethnic minorities.

No sanctions have been levied for breaches of equality legislation after a whistleblower revealed last year that the Royal Air Force (RAF) had discriminated against prospective candidates if they were white men — who were branded as “useless white male pilots” — in a bid to increase diversity within the ranks of the military in the two years leading up to March of 2021.

The great flight from heterosexuality

Why so many young people, even straights, are calling themselves ‘queer’.

For centuries people were ashamed to be gay. Now they’re ashamed to be straight. To the switched-on Gen Z’er there is no curse more twisted than heterosexuality. No blight more undesired than that most vanilla and normative of sexual identities. Straight – even the word is drab, literally meaning ‘to move uniformly in one direction only’. And so they hide their straightness. They’re getting into the straight closet. ‘I’m queer, I swear!’, they protest, convincing no one except their fellow blue-haired pansexual pretenders. Welcome to the great flight from heterosexuality.

Researchers condemn rise of ‘fascist ideologues’ after students send mocking responses to LGBTQ survey

Academic researchers condemned students’ irreverent and offensive responses to an LGBTQ survey, claiming the pushback indicates “fascist ideologues” are “living ‘inside the house’ of engineering and computer science.”

In an article for the Bulletin of Applied Transgender Studies, academics from Oregon State University wrote about their shock at receiving sarcasm and mockery in response to their research into undergraduate LGBTQ students studying in STEM fields.

The Semantic Burden of Speaking While White

As yet another racial etiquette study shows, it’s getting harder to talk about race.

As I read in the Guardian, an operation called “Reframing Race” has accepted as its mission the task of teaching people, white people in particular, the semantic niceties of racial etiquette.

Some of the stuff we have heard before, such as the need to avoid words that associate whiteness with purity or cleanliness and blackness with evil and destruction. But the reframing regime goes deeper. One particular paragraph in the Guardian caught my attention:

Other recommendations include avoiding the phrase “white working class” and rather using “multi-ethnic working class” or “working-class people of all ethnicities” because the use of the former wrongly excludes black and minoritised people from the class group.
