Is Russia co-opting US far-right groups to attack western democracies?

A former Pentagon contractor works with secretive sections of US special forces, then ups and moves to Russia. He gets married, radicalizes and starts popping up on Telegram channels as the leader of a neo-Nazi terrorist group recruiting Americans.

Soon, allegations swirl that he is a Russian spy.

While this sounds like something Tom Clancy would write, it is reality: Rinaldo Nazzaro, better known as the leader of the Base, once worked in drone targeting with the US Special Operations Command in Iraq and Afghanistan. Recently, the Guardian revealed allegations from inside the Base that he was long suspected of working with the FSB, one of Russia’s main intelligence services.

Canadian Digital Media Research Network found thousands of social media posts falsely linking the Conservatives to Russian interference after the U.S. indictment of Tenet Media.

Armed with newfound awareness about foreign interference, Canadian social media users have demonstrated a pattern of leaping to conclusions for partisan purposes, according to researchers examining the online response to the recent indictment of two Canadians accused of participating in an alleged Kremlin-backed influence campaign.

In its final report on its study of the Russian government’s alleged funding and influence of Tenet Media, the Canadian Digital Media Research Network (CDMRN)—led by the Media Ecosystem Observatory jointly run by McGill University and the University of Toronto—found that the firm is using the reach and following of its media personalities to align its content with “Russian objectives of sowing distrust and division.“

25 years of Putin: how an ex-KGB agent turned Russia ‘upside down’

Boris Yeltsin had earned a reputation for the unexpected, from ordering tanks to attack his rebellious parliament to drunkenly directing a military orchestra in Germany. Yet he saved one of his biggest surprises for last.

“I am leaving. I have done all I could,” President Yeltsin said, slurring his words in a televised New Year address in 1999, as the world prepared to celebrate the new millennium. Russia’s ailing leader still had half a year of his second term left to run and no one had expected him to stand down early.

“Why cling to power for six more months when the country has a strong leader who can be its president, a man on whom nearly all Russians are pinning their hopes for the future? Why stand in his way?” he said.

Government memo challenges claims of Russian bot influence in Canadian media

Canadians’ growing distrust of traditional media — not foreign interference— is driving the rise of alternative and far-right news sources, according to a Department of Foreign Affairs memo.

Blacklock’s Reporter says analysts from the department’s Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) office debunked allegations that Russian bots were amplifying dissent through conservative media in Canada.

Russia! Russia! Russia!

Inside the Russian Political Influence Campaign in Canada

When far-right YouTuber Lauren Southern was summoned to tell MPs about her part in an alleged Russian disinformation operation last month, she told them it was no big deal.

“If you were worried about this alleged Russian money unduly influencing Canadian issues — good news, didn’t happen,” she told the standing committee on public safety and national security, which includes Liberal, Conservative, NDP and Bloc Québécois MPs.

The Russians’ efforts to use Tenet Media as a secret propaganda tool were a failure, Southern told MPs. Few people watched the videos, she said, expert assessments of the project’s impact were inflated and the committee’s investigation was a waste of taxpayer dollars.

“Far-Right” means unbiased journalism.

Canadian right-wing pundit says Russia never influenced her Tenet videos

A Canadian right-wing commentator who produced videos for a media outlet now accused of pushing Russian propaganda says she was never influenced to produce content for the embattled company.

Lauren Southern, a well-known personality in conservative circles, testified Thursday before the House of Commons public safety and national security committee in the wake of a U.S. indictment linking Tenet Media to the foreign influence operation.

“I’m not being influenced by anyone,” Southern told MPs during a testy hour of testimony.

OTTAWA — Conservative media personality Jordan Peterson says he’s looking into legal action after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said this week that Peterson is receiving funding from Russian state-owned media outlet RT.

Trudeau made the comments under oath during his lengthy testimony on Wednesday at the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference and did not provide any evidence for them.

Jordan Peterson & Tucker Carlson Funded by Russia’s RT, Justin Trudeau Says

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said under oath that Tucker Carlson is funded by a Russian state-owned media outlet, without providing evidence for the claim.

Trudeau made the allegation about Carlson and fellow conservative media personality Jordan Peterson while testifying at a public inquiry into foreign interference on Wednesday.

The Canadian prime minister was addressing alleged Russian influence in spreading anti-vaccine messaging in the media and on social media during the “Freedom Convoy,” a protest against COVID-19 vaccines and restrictions in Canada in early 2022.

No way to sue Junior I suppose.

Major Russian disinfo site featuring anti-Trudeau articles prompts calls for new focus at public inquiry

A website at the heart of an international Russian disinformation operation has produced more than a dozen articles about Canadian politics in an apparent attempt to undermine support for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and boost his chief rival, Pierre Poilievre.

The website Reliable Recent News has been identified by officials in Europe and the U.S. as a repository for pro-Kremlin articles that are distributed through a network of affiliated sites disguised to appear as legitimate news outlets.

Prigozhin jet crash ‘isn’t an accident’ and ‘has hallmarks of FSB’

British security sources believe that the shooting down of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s private jet was carried out by the FSB intelligence agency on the orders of Vladimir Putin.

“Of course it’s Putin,” one source said. “Putin as a leader cannot afford to be humiliated in the way that he was. Putin functions on two things: Loyalty above talent… and the consequence of betrayal.”

Another said: “All the mood music, all the habits, all the history point to the FSB. The FSB remains loyal to Putin.”

Of Course, The FBI Refused to Apologize for Their Russian Collusion Antics

Conservatives and liberals hate the FBI for different reasons, with varying intensity levels. The issues they take umbrage with the nation’s preeminent law enforcement and domestic intelligence agency are different in size and scope, though they’re all serious issues that speak to the credibility and professionalism of the FBI. For liberals, the FBI’s lack of care when investigating the plethora of sexual assault allegations lobbed against the now-incarcerated Larry Nassar by American gymnasts was appalling. FBI Director Christopher Wray was yanked onto the Hill over this last year, where he apologized for his agency’s lack of follow-through. Nassar terrorized our gymnastics team for years; his list of victims included Olympic champions.

Why Putin Must Be Defeated

May 9, Moscow. The annual military Victory Day Parade was held in Red Square, but with fewer soldiers and military vehicles than in other years. The parade had been cut by 35%. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s short, sober speech tried to justify the war of aggression he had launched against Ukraine on February 24.

Putin seemed on the verge of defeat. A month earlier, in an apparent debacle, the Russian Army had hastily left the Kyiv area. Countless Russian soldiers had been wounded and killed; the loss of military equipment was unimaginable. A report from the UK Ministry of Defence on May 15 said that Russia had lost a third of its combat forces and much of its heavy equipment.

Attack of the Transphobic Putin-Nazi Truckers!

They rolled up on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill like one of the plagues in the Book of Revelations, honking their infernal air horns, the grills of their tractors grinning demonically, the sides of their dry vans painted with blasphemies like “FREEDOM TO CHOOSE,” “MANDATE FREEDOM,” “NO VACCINE MANDATES,” and “UNITED AGAINST TYRANNY.”

Yes, that’s right, New Normal Canada has been invaded and now is under siege by hordes of transphobic Putin-Nazi truckers, racist homophobes, anti-Semitic Islamaphobes, and other members of the working classes!
