UK: The Government Censorship Unit you’ve never heard of

The “Counter Disinformation Cell” is monitoring your online statements

Stories about censorship usually focus on the individuals prevented from publishing or saying something. But if we are to defend free expression from the new era of digital censorship, we need to focus much more closely on the censors themselves.

Few corporate actors are more powerful than social media companies and under the duress of political pressure, the power that they exercise over online discourse is slowly being melded to that of the state. Online speech standards based on maintaining corporate reputations have increasingly bent to political pressures and moral panics in recent years, often causing waves of online censorship in their wake.

Hosts of private at home parties in York Region will have to keep a list of guest contact info

TORONTO — Hosts of private social gatherings in York Region will now need to keep a list of their guests for contact tracing as part of two new public health measures put in place ahead of the long weekend.

In a news release issued Friday afternoon, officials said the region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Karim Kurji made two changes to COVID-19 measures to help curb the spread of COVID-19 amid a fourth wave of the pandemic.

The most notable is the addition of a new measure requiring anyone hosting a social gathering in a private residence or a commercial facility to keep a list of names and contact information for all attendees. The hosts must also be able to provide the list to public health officials within 24 hours of a request.

I’m sure it’s only a temporary measure like income tax.

Free speech can’t be filtered through a bureaucratic superstructure

The government wants you to believe it’s targeting hate speech, when in reality it’s targeting free speech

Free speech ensures that Canadians have the right to tell governments when they’re wrong. While this may be unpleasant for governments, it is absolutely vital in a democratic society.

Rather than strengthening Canadians’ rights, the Trudeau government wants to filter free speech through the lens of a bureaucratic superstructure. There can be no doubt that there are bad things on the internet. Child pornography, hate speech, and other such crimes are detestable. But these crimes are already labelled as such through the criminal code with lengthy prison sentences for those who are convicted.

The Total End of A Free Society – America First Docuseries Episode #1

Today’s top Gab TV video is part one of a documentary called “The Total End Of A Free Society,” which highlights the journey of 22 year old American political dissident Nicholas J. Fuentes. At just 22 years old Nick has become a Civil Rights Hero of our time and the canary in the coal mine for where our society is headed. In part one of the documentary we learn that the feds seized $500,000 from Nick’s bank account after he attended a political rally to exercise his First Amendment rights as an American Citizen. As I wrote a few weeks ago, pay attention to what is happening to both Nick and Gab, because it will inevitably happen to you too.

Donald Trump Threatens Republicans With Not Endorsing Them If They Vote Yes On Biden’s Infrastructure Plan

The United States Senate is getting prepared to vote on a massive $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package and Donald Trump is furious.

The 45th President of the United States raged against the deal in an email to supporters on Saturday, threatening to withhold endorsements for Republicans who vote for it.

“Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill is a disgrace. If Mitch McConnell was smart, which we’ve seen no evidence of, he would use the debt ceiling card to negotiate a good infrastructure package,” he said in the email.

“This is a 2,700 page bill that no one could have possibly read—they would have needed to take speed reading courses. It is a gift to the Democrat Party, compliments of Mitch McConnell and some RINOs, who have no idea what they are doing. There is very little on infrastructure in all of those pages. Instead, they track your driving so they can tax you. It is Joe Biden’s form of a gas tax but far bigger, far higher and, mark my words, far worse. They want to track you everywhere you go and watch everything you do!

The Social Media Giants Call Me a Violent Extremist. You’re Next.

Reading PJ Media the other day, I discovered to my shock that, without my knowing it, I’ve somehow become a violent extremist. As a result, the social media giants Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, and YouTube are determined to eradicate my nefarious presence from the interwebs. I don’t know when this particular boom will be lowered on me, if ever, but if my website Jihad Watch and I suddenly disappear from your daily Internet reading, you’ll know that our intrepid self-appointed protectors are working night and day to keep you safe from violent extremism, and are to be commended for doing so.

Coming soon: America’s own social credit system

The new domestic “War on Terror,” kicked off by the riot on Jan. 6, has prompted several web giants to unveil predecessors to what effectively could become a soft social credit system by the end of this decade. Relying on an indirect hand from D.C., our social betters in corporate America will attempt to force the most profound changes our society has seen during the internet era.

Freedom of Speech: A Vulnerable Right

Social media has undoubtedly become the dominant form of communication in our society. Sixty-eight percent of U.S. adults identify themselves as Facebook users. Statistics show that people on average spend 2.5 hours per day on social networks and messaging. Also, 49 percent “of consumers depend on influencer recommendations on social media.” Social media boosters claim that this success shows that Facebook, Twitter, Google, and other platforms are fulfilling their promise to help build an interconnected world of free expression and solidarity in diversity of thought. But is this true?

Canada’s gov’t. proposes ‘Digital Safety Commissioner’ to shut down websites deemed ‘harmful’

July 30, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Canada’s Federal government released plans Thursday to create a “Digital Safety Commissioner” who would have the power to shut down websites deemed a threat to “democracy,” and to promote content deemed “harmful.”

“Canadians expect their government to take action against serious forms of harmful content online. We need to create new rules for social media platforms and online services to address harmful online content and hold individuals accountable, while respecting the importance of freedom of expression in a free and democratic society,” said Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada David Lametti in a press release regarding the government launch of a “public consultation on a proposed approach for promoting a safe, inclusive and open online environment.”

The Liberal party government is a corrupt enemy of freedom.

Picking Up Where Bill C-10 Left Off: The Canadian Government’s Non-Consultation on Online Harms Legislation

The Canadian government released its plans yesterday for online harms legislation with a process billed as a consultation, but which is better characterized as an advisory notice, since there are few questions, options or apparent interest in hearing what Canadians think of the plans. Instead, the plans led by Canadian Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault pick up where Bill C-10 left off, treating freedom of expression as a danger to be constrained through regulations and the creation of a bureaucratic super-structure that includes a new Digital Safety Commission, digital tribunal to rule on content removal, and social media regulation advisory board. When combined with plans for a new data commissioner, privacy tribunal, and the expanded CRTC under Bill C-10, the sheer amount of new Internet governance is dizzying.

Make No Mistake. You Are Living Under the Perfect Censorship.

We who have lived in communist countries recognize the signs: American freedom of speech and thought are hanging on by a thread.

In 1991, Mario Vargas Llosa, Nobel laureate from Perú, caused a firestorm on Mexican television by calling Mexico the “perfect dictatorship, a phrase that has since become iconic. He pointed out that the one-party rule in Mexico had become entrenched: the Institutional Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Institucional in Spanish, or PRI) held uninterrupted power in the country for 71 years, even though the name of the presidents changed every five years (whereupon they were automatically amnestied by their successor for any criminal activity). Criticism—up to a point—was permitted, even encouraged, to maintain the illusion of Mexico being democratic. Opposition parties were allowed, but they often found that the means for an effective election campaign was controlled by the ruling party. As Vargas Llosa explained, a special kind of political rhetoric had been created to justify Mexico’s political system by recruiting intellectuals who were too willing to prostitute themselves. In short, it was a deviation from the traditional style of brutal military dictatorship, but it was a dictatorship nonetheless.

Canada’s next proposal to censor the internet

Canada’s ruling Liberals are continuing their efforts to bring radical forms of internet censorship to the country’s online space.

The latest proposal, described as a vast and wide-ranging system in Canadian press reports, sets the goal of preventing illegal content from being posted on Facebook, Pornhub, YouTube, and other major platforms. Child pornography and “hate speech” – two very different types of content – are singled out in these reports as examples of what would qualify as illegal under the new law.

Content Moderation Group Favored by Big Tech Expands Scope of Blacklisted Content

Experts worry that the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism could unfairly censor users

A nonprofit organization that major U.S. tech companies rely on for content moderation is expanding the scope of content it will blacklist on social media platforms.

The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism will expand its database of terrorist content to cover content shared by white nationalist and alt-right users, Reuters reported Monday. Tech companies, including Facebook, Microsoft, Google, and Twitter, rely on the forum’s database to automatically remove inappropriate content. Experts worry that the forum’s lack of transparency could cause some users to be unfairly censored.

If the LPC web censorship bill goes through I have to wonder how long BCF will last.

Canada proposes ̷‘̷d̷i̷g̷i̷t̷a̷l̷ ̷s̷a̷f̷e̷t̷y̷ ̷c̷o̷m̷m̷i̷s̷s̷i̷o̷n̷e̷r̷’̷ Kommissar to keep illegal content off Facebook, YouTube, Pornhub and other platforms

Canada proposes ̷‘̷d̷i̷g̷i̷t̷a̷l̷ ̷s̷a̷f̷e̷t̷y̷ ̷c̷o̷m̷m̷i̷s̷s̷i̷o̷n̷e̷r̷’̷ Kommissar to keep illegal content off Facebook, YouTube, Pornhub and other platforms

The federal government has proposed setting up a new watchdog that would oversee internet platforms operating in Canada — such as Facebook, YouTube, Pornhub and Twitter — to ensure illegal content, such as child pornography or hate-speech, doesn’t end up there.

The “digital safety commissioner of Canada” would oversee a slate of new rules proposed by the federal government Thursday. There are also plans to consult broadly with Canadians online before potentially putting the framework into legislation this fall.

…New regulations overseen by the commissioner would be aimed at curbing the spread of child sexual abuse material, hate-speech, terrorist content, incitements to violence and non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

In egregious cases, where a platform is flagrantly violating the rules when it comes to, specifically, terrorist content or child pornography, there could be a blocking order sought by the commissioner in court, which could make the website inaccessible to Canadians.

If you complain about the attack on freedom of speech they’ll call you an advocate of child porn.
