John Tory officially resigns as mayor after admitting to extramarital affair

John Tory handed over his mayoral powers at Toronto city hall on Friday, saying leaving the job breaks his heart but it is the “right thing to do” given recent events.

Tory made no direct mention in his statement of the reason for his decision to step down: an extramarital affair with a former staffer. He took no questions from reporters.

Tory thanked his staff, his colleagues, the city’s public service and the people of Toronto, saying he tried to unite the city under his tenure.

JIVANI: What does it mean to be a ‘lefty’ in Toronto?

Premier Doug Ford has some advice for the people of Toronto: Don’t elect a “lefty mayor” to replace John Tory.

“In my opinion, it’s not time to change,” Ford told reporters when explaining why he hoped Tory would remain in City Hall. “If a lefty mayor gets in there, God help the people (of) Toronto.”

Ford is right but Toronto loves to shit where it eats, it’s what the Liberal-Left does.

John Tory is formally resigning as Toronto mayor Friday.

Toronto Mayor John Tory confirmed late Wednesday night that he will leave office this Friday at 5 p.m.

The resignation follows a turbulent six days at City Hall, kicked off by a Star investigation that revealed an extended affair between Tory, 68, and one of his former staffers, 31.

Batten down the hatches because the left will pull out all the stops to get their lunatic choice elected.

Torontonians split over whether John Tory should resign as mayor, poll says

Torontonians are evenly split on whether Mayor John Tory should follow through on his plan to resign after admitting to starting a secret, extended relationship with a junior staff member in his city hall office.

A Forum Research poll of 1,042 Torontonians found 45 per cent do not think he should quit, 43 per cent think he should quit, and 11 per cent do not know.

The poll conducted Tuesday has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points 19 times out of 20, putting the difference between those for and against Tory resigning within that margin of error.

Ford, Freeland, among others encouraging Tory not to resign as Toronto mayor: source

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and the Toronto police union have reached out to Toronto Mayor John Tory, encouraging him not to resign, a source tells CityNews.

In a shocking announcement, Tory announced in a late-night press conference on Friday he would be stepping down as the city’s mayor after revealing he had an affair with a former staffer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tory said the relationship with the woman, reportedly 31 years old, ended mutually in early 2023.

Nothing says Establishment Uniparty better.

Toronto’s left sees political opportunity with Mayor John Tory poised to resign

It’s been more than 16 years since a left-of-centre candidate won a mayoral election in Toronto, but political organizers on that side of the spectrum believe the circumstances are ripe for a progressive to get into the mayor’s chair.

Mayor John Tory intends to stay in his post at least through Wednesday’s budget meeting at city council, but has said he will resign over what he called a lapse in judgment, a relationship with one of his staff members.

This opens up the prospect of an election for mayor at a yet-to-be-determined date in the coming months.

John Tory still hasn’t officially resigned after admitting affair — and he may not have to

John Tory’s professed resignation as mayor of Toronto after news of an extramarital affair with a younger member of his staff is on a slow roll, which is far from the impetus it first seemed to have.

His office now says Tory is staying on to nurse his budget through city council, while some publicly urge him to reconsider stepping down.

Could it be that the seemingly strait-laced, straight-faced politician who bounced into office in the wake of the scandalous and embarrassing charade of former mayor Rob Ford’s tenure is staying put?

I hate to say it as I am no fan but maybe it is better Tory stays on.

It’s a case of the Devil you know.

Under Tory’s tenure Toronto has begun to sink into sh&thole status.

The city annually raises taxes then wastes money coddling the “communities” that spawn most of our crime and funds all sorts of racist identity politics scams with bonus points for explicitly making white folks the target.

Transit is a homeless camp, if you drive you’re the enemy, all services in general continue to deteriorate, drug lords live in public housing and the police always have better things to do than worry about your stolen car. And if you complain you’re a racist.

So yes Toronto is well underway to becoming San Francisco north.

But under Tory we will become San Francisco at a slower pace than is to be expected under his rivals.

That’s it, that’s the only bright spot. Toronto like all Liberal-Left cities pathologically shits where it eats.

Tory may help preserve the real estate market long enough for you to sell and get out of Dodge.

He should rehire his floozie too. Why not?

Things to come in TO…

Michael Taube: After Tory’s Resignation, What Will the New Mayor of Toronto’s Agenda Ultimately Be?

Politics can be a cruel master at times. Some politicians have had periods of fiery success resembling a mighty phoenix. Others have watched the flames fizzle out in a slow burn—and, in some cases, the most dramatic fashion imaginable.

The latter is what happened to Toronto Mayor John Tory’s career in the blink of an eye.

John Tory could remain as mayor for Wednesday’s budget deliberations, ally suggests

John Tory intends to remain as mayor for this Wednesday’s budget deliberations at city hall, a member of his hand-picked executive committee says.

Coun. James Pasternak made the comment to reporters on Monday, prior to meeting with Tory inside the mayor’s city hall office.

Tory has not yet commented on his intentions himself but had previously said that he planned to resign “in the coming days.”

Nobody knows nothin bout no Tory floozie …

How John Tory decided to resign: the inside story of an agonizing week

… The crisis deepened last Thursday when the Star, after further investigation, submitted more questions with details about the relationship. They included queries about “#MeToo” implications and if Tory had helped the woman get a job at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment after she left the mayor’s office.

Tory, long under fire for retaining as mayor his seat on the Rogers family trust, with a $100,000-per-year payment, now faced a potential firestorm thanks to Rogers Communications’ 37.5 per cent stake in MLSE.

An MLSE spokesperson said “the employee in question was hired on the basis of merit and we were unaware of any relationships other than those that were purely professional.”

Let’s see bails from the CPC, lands in Tory’s office now at MLSE. Quite a career trajectory for Miss North Of Wawa.

A word in Tory’s favour …

John Tory should not have resigned as mayor

Pride and prejudice and punishment: The fall and folly of John Tory.

He led the city through a ravaging pandemic. He pleaded with us to keep a distance, to be cautious, to take care.

But somewhere along the line, he threw prudence to the wind.

The heart wants what it wants, I guess.

From DiManno of the Star.

Never a fan, he will still be better than the Liberal-Left Whackos waiting in the wings.

With John Tory resigning, Ontario PC machine revs up for Toronto mayor race – local Eunuch sought

‘We’ll make sure there’s only one credible centre-right candidate,’ says a Conservative political organizer

Conservative political organizers in Toronto have shifted into high gear in the wake of John Tory’s announcement that he will resign as mayor and names of potential candidates are starting to emerge.

The two names being floated the most frequently by Ontario PC and Conservative Party of Canada sources who’ve spoken with CBC News since Tory’s shock announcement on Friday night.

Many questions remain …

Was the affair about to be leaked to the public by an unknown 3rd party? Who tipped off the Star? Apparently they have been sniffing around for some time.

Someone online noted that Tory did not apologize to the “Young Lady” in his resignation speech.

I assume that was to protect himself as it could be construed as an admission of guilt in court.

One possibility is the poor abused young lady has launched or has threatened to launch a lawsuit and Tory decided to get ahead of the story.

Another possibility is that someone at MLSE resented Tory for using the organization as a dumping ground for his discarded floozies and made their displeasure known to the Star.

He has loads of political “enemies” any one of whom may have been tipped to the story.

It’s possible family was involved but not likely in my view.

Is this the prelude to the revelation of a bigger scandal?

John Tory’s resignation leaves power vacuum at Toronto city hall

As Toronto prepares to elect a new mayor following Friday’s surprise resignation of John Tory, Canada’s biggest city prepares for the kind of political upheaval rarely seen over the past decade.

“During the pandemic, I developed a relationship with an employee in my office in a way that did not meet the standards to which I hold myself as Mayor and as a family man,” the now-former mayor said in a statement read before reporters Friday evening at Toronto City Hall.

Please God restore Rob Ford to life.
