Twitter Insiders Fear Elon Musk Heralds a Troll Takeover

At a Twitter company meeting Monday about the decision to accept Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition offer, CEO Parag Agrawal avoided speculating on how its new owner might change the platform. For one employee watching, Musk’s public comments had already made the likely consequences clear: Twitter appeared poised to loosen content moderation, making it a less welcoming place for both users and advertisers.

Khan: Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover shows why Canada must regulate social media now

Voices from racialized communities, anti-racism activists and the political left are saying that restrictions must be maintained on those voices that use the platform to propagate hate, xenophobia and disinformation. Many on the political right, free-speech extremists and far-right voices are rejoicing at the prospect that Twitter under Musk’s ownership will become a space for unrestricted speech, where anything one can say is acceptable.

That is a lie: Musk has stated very clearly that he intended to allow all legal speech.

Has Twitter Been Cooking Their Books?

Has anyone else been suspicious of Twitter’s flip-flop on selling the platform to Elon Musk? I’m sure I’m not the only one. I always felt that Twitter was far less valuable than what Musk was offering and was particularly surprised when a Twitter board member, Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, who is also one of Twitter’s largest shareholders, said that he’d reject Musk’s offer because it was too low.

‘Burning the evidence before the new boss starts?’: Don Jnr and right wingers see giant leaps in their Twitter followers after Musk bid was accepted – as Obama and left wingers lose huge numbers

Prominent right-wing tweeters have seen their follower counts shoot up since Elon Musk took over, sparking claims their accounts had been suppressed by woke Twitter staffers.

Meanwhile, leading left-wing figures including Barack Obama as well as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have seen huge slumps since news of Musk’s purchase.

Donald Trump Jr, who has 7.7 million followers, saw his followers surge by 87,296 on Tuesday and suggested the increase was due to an algorithm tweak targeting prominent conservative voices ahead of Musk’s arrival.

CNN Terrified of Free Speech on Twitter: Would You Go to Elon’s Dirty Party?

With Elon Musk’s deal to acquire Twitter finalized on Monday, CNN Newsroom was left shaken by the idea that free speech would be allowed on the platform that they’ve used to gaslight the public and boost their egos. This fear ranged from concerns about former President Trump’s return to analogies suggesting Twitter would become a debauched and dirty party that will chase away users.

Twitter set to accept Musk’s $43 bln offer – sources

NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) – Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) is poised to agree a sale to Elon Musk for around $43 billion in cash, the price the chief executive of Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) has called his “best and final” offer for the social media company, people familiar with the matter said.

Twitter may announce the $54.20-per-share deal later on Monday once its board has met to recommend the transaction to Twitter shareholders, the sources said. It is always possible that the deal collapses at the last minute, the sources added.

Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary Boosts Elon Musk Bid, Slams Twitter Censorship, Says ‘Fire’ Board Members

Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary praised Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s bid for left-wing platform Twitter, ripping the company for censoring views and board members for being ineffective and in need of firing.

O’Leary told Andrew Sorkin, co-anchor CNBC’s Squawk Box, that Twitter “is the most miserable investment you could have put your dollars into in social media. It has totally lagged all its other competitors.”

Maybe Elon Musk should give up on Twitter — and let it destroy the woke

Maybe we’re better off if Elon Musk’s attempt to take over Twitter fails. No, wait, hear me out.

I’ve been rooting for the Tesla CEO in his battle with Twitter’s sad board of directors, whose members seem eager to protect their power and position. And it’s been fun to watch all the establishment pundits, academics and regulators circle the wagons against a man whose unpardonable sin is a desire to let people speak freely. He might even stop them from abusing their power to affect elections (always on behalf of Democrats, of course), which is intolerable.
