Tourists visiting Chicago confronted by nightmarish Mad Max scene unfolding outside hotel window

A couple visiting Chicago were left confused and horrified by a Mad Max-style scene unfolding outside of their hotel window, as teen gangs continue to terrorize the city.

The pair, who were staying at the Hampton Inn near the South Loop, were woken up early on Sunday morning after youths gathered at an intersection and began drifting in circles.

As traffic backed up on either side of the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Cermak Road, a large group was seen crowding three cars spinning in the intersection.

Trump says he won’t invade Canada after all

Trump says he won’t invade Canada after all

Donald Trump has said he will not invade Canada after repeatedly threatening to turn the country into America’s “51st state”.

The US president questioned whether Canadians still recognised the King as their head of state as he weighed up the “problem” of taking over the territory during the rest of his time in office.

“I suppose the Canadians have got 200 years of history and all that ‘Oh, Canada’ thing,” he said. “You can’t deal with that in three and a half years. I guess it’s not going to happen!”

Trump doesn’t have to do anything Canada is imploding so all he’ll have to do is pick up the good parts.

The ‘New Syria’: Same Old Jihad

The ‘New Syria’: Same Old Jihad

Why the US Should Not Trust Syria’s Ahmed al-Sharaa (or Iran’s Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf)

Recent footage from Aleppo and other parts of Syria should serve as a wake-up call to anyone in Washington and European capitals still clinging to the illusion of a “moderate” new Syria under President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

In the video, soldiers from Brigade 60, a unit affiliated with the Syrian Army, are seen chanting slogans that openly threaten Israel: “O my enemy [Israel], I’m coming after you!”

The message is neither subtle nor ambiguous: the struggle of the soldiers does not end inside Syria’s borders. It extends to Israel and, by implication, to its allies, especially the US.

Polymarket criticized over ‘disgusting’ bets on fate of pilots on US jet shot by Iran

Polymarket criticized over ‘disgusting’ bets on fate of pilots on US jet shot by Iran

After strong criticism from a federal lawmaker, the online betting platform Polymarket stopped accepting wagers on when US warplane crew members who were shot down in Iran might be rescued. It promised to investigate how the market materialized.

The criticism came from Seth Moulton, a Massachusetts Democratic representative who earned two bronze star medals serving with the United States marine corps in Iraq from 2003 to 2008 and published an X post describing Polymarket’s acceptance of bets on the downed pilots’ fate as “DISGUSTING”.

Unseemly yes but would a ban even be legal?

Trump’s respect for King Charles possibly quashed desire to annex Canada, says royal commentator

An upcoming book authored by a prominent royal commentator says U.S. President Donald Trump was primarily interested in annexing Canadian territory just above the U.S.-Canada border — and his respect for King Charles may have quashed that goal.

The book, titled Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story, is written by British journalist Robert Hardman and is being serialized in the Daily Mail. It’s a profile of the late former Queen, who Trump speaks glowingly about, and touches upon King Charles’s reign.

Federal government saying little about Toronto’s call to block ICE from World Cup

Federal government saying little about Toronto’s call to block ICE from World Cup

The federal government is not responding directly to a Toronto city council motion opposing the presence of any U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at upcoming FIFA World Cup games.

The motion, brought forward by Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and adopted last week, calls on the federal public safety and foreign affairs ministers to reject any ICE deployment.

Maybe the Feds are hoping she’ll be deported.

Eulogy for the CIA Factbook: The free standard for world facts is gone

Eulogy for the CIA Factbook: The free standard for world facts is gone

If you attended school any time after the Nixon administration, then you likely beheld at some point the CIA World Factbook, a map and reference manual of Planet Earth and its inhabitants upon which nearly everyone could agree.

Maybe you read parts of it from a floppy disk or a CD-ROM for that social studies project due tomorrow. Or scanned its list of countries for Latvia, because that is the country you are representing next week in Model U.N. Even better, you wandered the earth in your imagination as you held the physical Factbook in your own hands, unfolding its maps and understanding, perhaps for the first time, that the thumbs-up gesture your friends flash each other is considered an obscene insult in parts of the Middle East, Europe and Argentina.

A pity, as a blogger I have relied on it on many occasions.

Did ICE Just Use the DMV as Bait to Lure Illegal Alien Truck Drivers?

Did ICE Just Use the DMV as Bait to Lure Illegal Alien Truck Drivers?

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) may have dropped off the radar a little bit after things settled down in Minneapolis, but a flurry of arrests just outside Pittsburgh suggests that ICE is as active as ever and addressing a problem that’s been a long time coming.

ICE arrested a reported 13 people at a driver’s license center in a quiet, rural location 40 miles north of downtown Pittsburgh on April 3.

Niece, grandniece of slain notorious Iranian Gen. Soleimani arrested by ICE while enjoying lavish lifestyles in LA

The niece of slain Iranian terror mastermind Gen. Qasem Soleimani – who showcased her luxe LA lifestyle on Instagram while bashing the US as the “Great Satan” – and her daughter have been arrested by ICE agents, the State Department announced Saturday.

Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, who allegedly celebrated attacks on US soldiers and military bases, and her daughter Sarinasadat Hosseiny, have had their green cards revoked over their ties to the Iranian regime.

Given Iran is now an ally via Carney’s alignment with China I doubt anything will be done about the estimated 700 or so Khomeini regime members resident in Canada.

Carney likely has them slated for jobs on the Immigration and Refugee Board.

The U.S.-Europe Alliance Is Reaching a Breaking Point Over the Iran War

The U.S.-Europe Alliance Is Reaching a Breaking Point Over the Iran War

Trans-Atlantic ties between the U.S. and Europe are deteriorating rapidly, with tensions over the Iran war adding to a growing sense that the world’s most important geopolitical partnership is sliding toward a divorce.

President Trump has expressed “disgust” with European allies for not joining the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, and has mused with aides and journalists about pulling out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the 77-year-old alliance that won the Cold War and, until recently, underpinned the West.

For their part, European leaders have come out staunchly against a war they weren’t consulted on, and which they see as both illegal and ill-advised. After a year in which Trump placed tariffs on European products, scrapped most U.S. support for Ukraine, repeatedly mocked European leaders and threatened to seize the Danish territory of Greenland, they and their voters are in no mood to help out.

What Happens If States Start Codifying Muslim Holidays In Their Calendars?

What Happens If States Start Codifying Muslim Holidays In Their Calendars?

Should California codify Islamic religious observances into state-recognized holidays in the United States?

As a nation, the essence of who we are as a People is rooted in our Judeo-Christian values and principles, dating back to the Magna Carta. This shared moral vocabulary has shaped Western thinking since America’s founding. Why, then, would any State in the Union formally endorse or incorporate into our educational and other public institutions a religious doctrine with practices antithetical to the belief system?

Muslim called Jewish family ‘dirty people’ in park then tried to tell cops that he had First Amendment right to do so, prosecutors say

A Muslim man argued he had First Amendment rights to call a Jewish family ‘dirty people’ at a Miami Beach park, prosecutors said.

Ahmad Zeeshan, 32, was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly approached a Jewish family at Stillwater Park and shouted anti-Semitic slurs at them, NBC Miami reported.

‘Are you guys Jewish?’ he allegedly asked, according to Local 10 News. After confirmation, he allegedly yelled: ‘Get the f**k out of here, you f**king dirty people.’

Trump has triggered a wave of European soul-searching

Trump has triggered a wave of European soul-searching

As world leaders grapple with Donald Trump’s second term, his war with Iran has accelerated European multipolarism, with leaders on the continent searching for alternative solutions to American isolationism. How far should Europe pool security and defence? Should there be a European version of the Anglo ‘Five Eyes’ alliance, as the Netherlands’s coalition government, led by their new prime minister Rob Jetten, has suggested? Is the proposal from Renew Europe – the European Parliament’s centrist grouping – for a Nato-like trade alliance between European countries and their democratic allies – like Canada, Japan and South Korea – realistic?

NATO Commits Suicide — All We Can Do Is Bury It

NATO Commits Suicide — All We Can Do Is Bury It

For years now, I’ve written, with something between sadness and exasperation, that NATO is dying. Despite pious pronouncements to the contrary, not even the Russian invasion of Ukraine has done much to bring NATO back to its original purpose, namely protecting Europe against a Russian threat. When Germany and other European countries chose climate change fantasy — and Russian oil — over energy independence, they betrayed a fundamental unseriousness about the threat posed by Vladimir Putin’s overweening ambitions.
