Revealed: how companies made $100m clearing California homeless camps

On an October morning, a small army arrived to evict Rudy Ortega from his home in the Crash Zone, an encampment located near the end of the airport runway in San Jose, California, Silicon Valley’s largest city. As jets roared overhead, garbage trucks and police squad cars encircled Ortega’s hand-built shelter. Heavy machinery operators stood by for the signal to bulldoze Ortega’s camp.

As the workers closed in, Ortega grew increasingly upset.

But there’s no “Homeless Industrial Complex”.

Biden ‘sleepwalking’ into ‘catastrophic war,’ expert says, as IDF mulls retaliatory strike against Iran

President Biden is “sleepwalking” the US into another “catastrophic” war in the Middle East, an expert says, as Israel prepares a retaliatory strike after Iran’s historic missile bombardment over the weekend.

Biden, 81, is facing mounting pressure to silence critics who claim he’s allowed tensions in the region to escalate, as the threat of an Israeli counterstrike on Iran looms.

American Anti-War Activists Cheer for Iran’s War

CHICAGO — About 300 anti-war activists crowded into the basement of the Teamsters Union’s headquarters on Saturday to hear organizers from all over the country describe their plans to disrupt the Democratic National Convention this August. Joe Biden’s backing of Israel since Hamas’s October 7 attack has turned these left-wing radicals against their own party.

“It’s really inspiring to see that people are just as enthusiastic, and maybe even more enthusiastic, to march on the DNC as they are to march on the RNC,” says Omar Florez, a Milwaukee-based activist. “We can thank Genocide Joe and our movement for that.”

A Turkish source says Biden green-lit Iran’s attack on Israel

Yesterday, Iran launched a ferocious onslaught against Israel. It was only because Israel has spent decades investing in infrastructure and training to defend herself that she didn’t suffer mass casualties and major damage to Jerusalem and her military installations. Biden immediately announced that Israel’s defense constituted a victory and told her he wouldn’t support a counterattack. Now, in a bizarre twist, the Jerusalem Post reports that, according to a Turkish report, Biden actually gave Iran the green light to attack Israel!

America’s next civil war has already started – this is how it will end

When Stephen Marche began writing a book that imagined a future civil war in the United States of America, he repeatedly found himself having to throw out large chunks of text because the very things he conjured on the page suddenly started happening in real life: sheriffs across the country refusing to obey federal law; white power groups getting their hands on nuclear material. Marche soon realised that the civil war he was predicting had, in a way, already begun.

There is something in the air, in the streets, and now on our screens in the form of Alex Garland’s new film Civil War, which imagines a dystopian future – the American presidency has become a dictatorship and rebels descend on the White House.

Biden tells Netanyahu US will not engage in counteroffensive against Iran, calls Saturday a win for Israel: report

President Biden told Israeli Prime Minister that nothing of “value” was hit in Iran’s airborne attack Saturday and asserted American forces will not be participating in any offensive against Iran, according to a report.

The president called Israel’s defense during the attacks a win — telling Netanyahu Israel’s ability to intercept nearly all of the hundreds of missiles and drones showed its military superiority, a US official told CNN.

Biden also made it very clear that the US would not be engaging in any military offensive against the Islamic Republic, the senior official told the channel.

The Face of America’s Third Party

Robert Kennedy Jr. is the strongest third-party presidential candidate in 32 years. Many of his supporters are vaccine skeptics, and the Democrats are panicking.

In 1960, America elected its first Catholic president in John F. Kennedy. He broke new ground not only with his religion, but also through opening for a political dynasty with an almost unique presence in American politics. He convinced the U.S. Senate to approve his brother Robert as attorney general, and in 1962 their youngest brother, Edward, or “Ted,” was elected U.S. Senator from Massachusetts.

After President Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963, Robert continued to serve as attorney general under President Lyndon Johnson; in 1964 he successfully ran for the U.S. Senate in New York. He served alongside his brother Ted while running for president in 1968. He was killed while on the campaign trail, leaving Ted as the de facto head of the political family.

US ex-ambassador sentenced for Cuban espionage

Former US diplomat Victor Manuel Rocha led a double life spanning decades. While working for the US government, he also served as a spy for Cuba.

Rocha was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to acting as an illegal foreign agent and will pay a $500,000 (€469,000) fine. He is also required as part of a deal with prosecutors to disclose details of his cooperation with Cuban intelligence.

The US Justice Department called it “one of the highest-reaching and longest-lasting infiltrations of the US government.”

‘Democracy’ Has a Peculiar Aftertaste

The American system of government is a federation of sovereign states that retain inherent powers not specifically delegated to the national government. It is a republic that separates discrete powers among coequal and competing branches of government — namely the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. It is a representative democracy that empowers the people to vote into office those who presumably will best serve their interests. Most importantly, it is a constitutional system that severely limits government’s authority and proscribes government agents from infringing upon freedoms retained by the people.

FBI chief Chris Wray to warn of ‘coordinated attack’ on US just weeks after Moscow concert hall horror

FBI Director Christopher Wray will warn lawmakers later Thursday that there is a growing fear among law enforcement officials of a “coordinated attack” inside the US — weeks after an ISIS assault on a concert hall in Moscow killed 145 people and wounded hundreds more.

“Our most immediate concern has been that individuals or small groups will draw twisted inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks here at home,” Wray will tell a House Appropriations subcommittee.

I might trust the Jihadis more than Wray.

Defining Jihadism

Recently, the Daily Wire revealed that an internal newsletter from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence featured an article arguing for “changing terminology related to counterterrorism,” because “certain phrases to identify international terrorism… are hurtful to Muslim-Americans.” One of the supposedly “problematic phrases” is the term “jihadist.” An alternative suggestion given in the newsletter to denote jihadists is the word khawarij.
