Two Canadians hiding out in Mexico, one an Interpol fugitive, killed at Playa del Carmen resort

MEXICO CITY, June 21 (Reuters) – Two Canadian citizens, a man and a woman, have been killed at the beach resort of Playa del Carmen on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, authorities said on Tuesday.

The killings in the state of Quintana Roo follow the fatal shooting in January of two Canadians with criminal records in nearby Cancun.

A senior state official told Reuters the man, whose identity has not been made public, was wanted by Interpol.

Had their throats cut. I wonder what flavour of Canadian they were.

June 20 (Reuters) – Elon Musk’s transgender daughter has filed a request to change her name in accordance with her new gender identity and because “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”

The petition for both a name change and a new birth certificate reflecting her new gender identity was filed with the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Santa Monica in April. It came to light recently in some online media reports.

Terrorist accused in fatal Wisconsin Christmas parade crash changes plea to “insanity defense”

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A man accused of killing six people and injuring dozens more when he allegedly drove his SUV through a Christmas parade in suburban Milwaukee last year has decided to mount an insanity defense, his attorneys said Monday.

Darrell Brooks Jr. faces more than 80 charges, including six homicide counts, in connection with the Nov. 21 incident in Waukesha. He pleaded not guilty in February. During a hearing Monday one of his attorneys, Jeremy Perri, told Judge Jennifer Dorow that Brooks is changing his plea to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

Teenager injures multiple people in knife attack at Swedish mall … motive unknown

Multiple people have been injured in a knife attack at a mall in Sweden, local police have said.

One man is fighting for his life after several people were reportedly stabbed in central Västerås at around 8.30am.

Another man, also with serious injuries but stable, was taken to hospital after the attack in the small city, 100km west of Stockholm.

MPs may get panic buttons to boost security, after minister says he got death threats

OTTAWA – Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says he is looking into giving MPs panic buttons to increase their personal security.

In an interview, Mendicino revealed he has been subject to death threats on social media in recent weeks.

Speaking to The Canadian Press, the public safety minister says he and the police, as well as Parliamentary Protective Services, are reassessing the security of MPs after a series of threats and intimidating incidents.

One of the therapists, Richard Yensen, whose psychology license had lapsed years earlier, said he had consensual sex with Buisson after the experimental therapy sessions had ended but while she was still part of the trial. Buisson accused him of sexual assault constituting battery. Canadian police passed the file to prosecutors, who chose not to take the case forward.

US parents turn to black market due to formula shortage

Mum Lauren Galvin needed to get extra milk into her baby. He was spitting up so much after nursing that he wasn’t gaining weight and had to be taken to hospital, twice.

But, with the US in the grips of a severe national shortage of infant formula, she couldn’t find any to buy.

So Lauren turned to the black market, going online to order a Dutch-made brand that is barred from import to the United States.

US authorities have repeatedly warned against buying milk that hasn’t been approved for export to the US.

A Canadian professor has been branded a petty tattle-tale on social media after taking to Twitter to shame a flight attendant for not wearing amask.

Amir Attaran, a professor of law and epidemiology at the University of Ottawa, complained that his United flight attendant was breaking the law which requires masking on flights out of Canada on a recent trip to Chicago.

‘Hey United, why are you breaking the law? Masks are required on all flights out of Canada. Your flight attendant isn’t wearing one! This is UA3737 in Ottawa right now,’ he tweeted.

Man charged after woman lit on fire on Toronto bus in hate-motivated attack, police say

A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was lit on fire on a Toronto public transit bus in what police are calling a hate-motivated attack.

The man, Tenzin Norbu, of Toronto, has also been charged with assault with a weapon, common nuisance and mischief. He appeared in a Toronto courtroom on Saturday. The case has been adjourned until Monday at 10 a.m.

Tibetan Hate Crime Suspect? Police investigating case of woman set on fire on TTC bus as suspected hate crime; man charged

On Sunday, police identified the man as 33-year-old Tenzin Norbu of Toronto. He is facing four charges, including attempted murder and assault with a weapon.

Police also announced that they are treating the incident as a suspected hate-motivated offence following consultation with the hate crime unit.
