Norwegian Muslims, Vegans Team Up in Protesting All Burgers Being Fried on the Same Grill

Lashing out against the so-called cross-contamination that occurs when eateries prepare their meals, Norwegian Muslims have found unexpected partners in vegans, who also oppose the same routines for various kinds of foods.

The Halal Guide, a popular Facebook group with tens of thousands of members, has called for better routines for how halal and vegan food is prepared.

In a recent much-shared post, the group revealed that a number of fast food chains, including Burger King, make all their products on the same grill and in the same frying oil. That is to say, vegetarian burgers, chicken burgers, fish burgers and beef burgers all fry side by side.

A second judo fighter has quit the Tokyo Olympics rather than face an Israeli opponent.

Mohamed Abdalrasool, 28, of Sudan, was a no-show for his fight against 27-year-old Tohar Butbul in the 73kg class on Monday morning.

It comes after Fethi Nourine of Algeria quit the contest last week because he might have had to fight Butbul, saying he was protesting Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.

India landslide: Nine tourists killed as boulders fall from hilltop

Nine tourists have been killed in northern India after the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by falling boulders.

Three others were reportedly injured in the incident, which happened in the state of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

Dramatic footage posted on social media showed large rocks hurtling down a steep valley and onto a bridge.

In Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” according to a feature published Thursday in the British Catholic weekly The Tablet, “the Prophet Muhammad, along with four popes, is pictured suffering the torments of Hell.” However, as far as The Tablet is concerned, the big news in this 700-year-old literary masterpiece is not that, but a “less well-known” aspect of the epic poem: “how much Dante’s masterpiece owes to the vibrant culture of early medieval Islam.” Well, of course. All over what used to be known as Christendom, the best and the brightest are eagerly twisting themselves into all sorts of knots in order to argue that Islam has always been a part of the West, and not as a historic adversary, either, but as an integral element of Western culture. Why shouldn’t The Tablet join the party?

Nigeria school children kidnappers abduct man delivering ransom

Kidnappers in Nigeria have seized a man who was sent to deliver a ransom payment to secure the release of dozens of abducted school children.

The elderly man was sent by the children’s parents after they managed to raise 30m naira ($73,000; £53,000) by selling land and other possessions.

But they have been left feeling hopeless following his kidnapping.

The north of the country is in the midst of a wave of school abductions carried out by criminals for profit.

Not far behind was U.S. politics. The data showed Canadian right-wing extremists were very much influenced by events happening in the U.S. and Donald Trump came up in a lot of posts.

“This raises the concern that an emboldened and increasingly violent extreme right in the U.S. could help to inspire similar activity in Canada, as Canadian right-wing extremists look to their U.S. counterparts for inspiration,” the researchers wrote.

Around the time of the U.S. election last year, trolls on 4chan created and disseminated a fake article that suggested Canada was preparing to launch an invasion of the U.S. should Donald Trump win the election. It all appeared to be part of an effort to exacerbate political tensions between the neighbouring countries “at the time of a high-stakes political event,” the researchers wrote.

The lawyer for the man accused of killing a Toronto cop earlier this month made a brief court appearance today — far earlier than scheduled.

Umar Zameer, 31, was supposed to make a bail appearance at Old City Hall at 2 p.m., but media were told shortly after 1 p.m. that the matter had already been dealt with, leaving reporters without an opportunity to observe the proceedings, or even get their first look at the accused.

More than 100 patients at a US nursing home and two hospitals have been infected with an untreatable fungus, including three victims who died, federal officials say.

The ongoing outbreaks of the drug-resistant “superbug,” Candida auris, at a Washington, DC, nursing home and two Dallas, Texas-area hospitals were reported by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday.

It appears that the drug-resistant strain, which brings fever and chills, spread from patient to patient for the first time in the US. Earlier cases diagnosed in New York in 2019 were also resistant to the drugs, but nothing indicated those patients had passed the bug to each other.
