Oregon students would no longer have to prove they can do basic reading, writing and math to graduate under a bill likely to become law
A bill removing the requirement that Oregon students in the classes of 2022, 2023 and 2024 demonstrate basic proficiency in math, reading and writing to earn a high school diploma passed a key milestone Thursday and is likely to become law.
The bill, already approved by majority Democrats in the Senate, was greenlit by Democrats on the House Education Committee for a vote on the House floor as early as next week.

The video extended an invitation to a campaign event in the city of Moroleon in central Mexico on Tuesday. It was to be the 61-year-old mayoral candidate’s last video. She was shot dead the same day, in broad daylight.
Legislative, gubernatorial and local elections are all taking place on June 6 in one of the biggest elections Mexico has witnessed. According to the consulting firm Etellekt, Barragan was the 88th candidate to have been murdered this electoral season.

NY prep school students sent to “porn literacy” training
Imagine you’re a parent paying nearly $50K per year (per child) to send your children to an elite college-prep high school. What is your response when you find out that the curriculum has been expanded to include a lecture offering literacy in the subject of pornography? That’s what happened to a number of families at the elite Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School in Manhattan this month. When the students were scheduled to attend a health and sexuality workshop, most didn’t think much of it. Health class always covers topics including reproduction, birth control and all the rest. But when the kids showed up, they learned it was a “pornography literacy” course with the subtitle “An intersectional focus on mainstream porn.” Needless to say, things went downhill from there.
