Manitoba woman files proposed class action against Loblaw over alleged underweighted meat sales

A Manitoba woman, who blew the whistle on a case in which Loblaw sold underweighted meat across 80 stores in Western Canada, has filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against the grocery chain over allegations it consistently overcharges for meat and seafood by including the packaging weight in the final price tag.

Plaintiff Iris Griffin’s claim, filed in the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench last week, names Loblaw Companies Ltd., Loblaws Inc., T&T Supermarket Inc. and Provigo Distribution Inc. as defendants.

Nanaimo Considering Fence Around City Hall to Protect Staff From Drug Consumption Site Disorder

The B.C. city of Nanaimo is proposing to build a fence around its city hall parking lot to protect staff from violence and disorder associated with “congregations” of people who frequent a supervised drug consumption site located next to the city’s parking lot.

City staff have proposed a 1.83-metre-high fence, which will cost an estimated $412,000 to install, due to concerns from employees about “intimidation and harassment.” Staff say the risk is higher for those working early or late, citing damage to staff vehicles, fires near the city hall building, including in doorways, as well as human waste and an overall deterioration of the area.

Jamie Sarkonak: Non-citizen johns shouldn’t get sentence discounts for their crimes

In December 2023, Akashkumar Khant, 30 (plus or minus some months), made the mistake of arranging to have sex with a 15-year-old at a Mississauga Holiday Inn for $140.

Only, when he got there, that 15-year-old turned out to be a cop. He was arrested at the hotel (with $140 in cash on hand) and subsequently ended up in court — but he won’t receive a criminal record for his actions, in part because of his immigration status.

Foreign Bot Networks Are Trying to Take Down Trump

Fake MAGA influencers advance agendas aligned with hostile foreign states.

Hostile foreign actors are increasingly using social media to drive a wedge into Donald Trump’s political coalition. Using open-source intelligence and analyses of online activity, we explore this phenomenon, which we call “fake MAGA,” in a recent report for the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI).

Our report defines fake MAGA influencers as those who use “Make America Great Again” or “America First” branding to target these audiences but are in fact linked to large-scale bot farms—as evidenced by the creation of massive numbers of such accounts at opportune moments on X. That is, our analysis reveals coordinated account-creation spikes (for instance, during Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition), followed by synchronized amplification of identical narratives by those same accounts during a crisis.

Canada deploys explosive drone boat in first proof of ‘new operational concept’ for navy

The Royal Canadian Navy is experimenting with explosive-packed drone boats, turning lessons learned from Ukraine’s war with Russia into a “new operational concept” for Canada’s maritime forces.

The first test of the concept came during a multinational naval exercise that concluded earlier this month off the west coast of Vancouver Island, where one explosive-laden vessel was driven into another uncrewed boat and detonated.

The drone boats, known officially as Hammerhead uncrewed surface vessels, are typically used by the navy as remote-controlled targets to mimic small speedboat attacks on larger ships.

Trump says Adam Schiff must be ‘brought to justice’ for mortgage fraud after DOJ criminal referral

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Tuesday called for California Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff to be “brought to justice” for alleged mortgage fraud — after a federal housing agency sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department regarding Schiff’s ownership of a Maryland home.

“I have always suspected Shifty Adam Schiff was a scam artist. And now I learn that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division have concluded that Adam Schiff has engaged in a sustained pattern of possible Mortgage Fraud,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
