WARMINGTON: Why punish guy trying to free Sir John A. Macdonald from a box?

So, do you throw the book at guy who spray painted “Free John” on the wooden box that jails Canada’s first prime minister, or give him the Order of Canada?

Council rejects VE Day anniversary parade because it’s ‘too elitist’

A military parade marking the eightieth anniversary of VE Day has been rejected by councillors because it is “too elitist”.

Dacorum borough council in Hertfordshire has eschewed hosting any formal event to mark the end of the Second World War in Europe on May 8.

This is despite the Lib Dem-run council holding a day-long event last year called “50 Fest” – which included a colourful parade through Hemel Hempstead – to mark its 50th birthday.

Mystery of Russian web searches about Mannheim attack days before it happened

Russian internet users were searching for information about a terror attack in Germany several days before it occurred, according to an investigation that suggests Moscow may have had advance knowledge of the violence.

In May last year a rejected asylum seeker from Afghanistan killed a police officer and wounded five other people with a knife in the western city of Mannheim, as he apparently sought to assassinate a far-right critic of Islam.

Meet the global famine conspiracists

Are their fears coming true?

In the twilight of Joe Biden’s presidency, ex-rock star turned MAGA maven Ted Nugent posted an ominous message: “They are not ‘predicting’ food shortages. They are planning them.”

At around the same time, shit-posting Disney action hero and mixed martial artist Gina Carano spotted a grand historical pattern: “Mao attacked farmers. Stalin attacked farmers. Now, world governments are attacking farmers. Same group throughout history. It’s a playbook, it’s not a chance happening. Wake up.” Then Wide Awake Media posted an image of thousands of acres of “prime agricultural land” squandered by solar panels, captioned with a rhetorical question: “is this one of the reasons for the globalist war on agriculture?”

This Nonprofit Got $22 Million in Government Grants to Teach Kids About Sex Toys

For nearly a decade, the federal government has funded a nonprofit group that works to educate minors about sex toys, while discouraging them from telling their parents about it. The Center for Innovative Public Health Research has received more than $22 million in federal money since 2016. According to its website, the group creates “health education programs” that “promote positive human development.” But the content of those programs—and the comments of the organization’s CEO, Michele Ybarra—suggest that CIPHR’s “human development” goals are anything but positive.

More U.S. academics are looking to Canada amid Trump’s crackdown on universities. What does it mean for schools here?

Amid the turbulent Donald Trump presidency, many American scholars are considering relocating abroad, including to Canada. Some here view this potential influx as a “brain gain” for the country, but others worry it could exacerbate existing problems in the post-secondary system.

Critics argue that the arrival of U.S. talent could limit job opportunities for Canadian academics and intensify challenges like underfunding, program cuts and faculty layoffs. They warn that while attracting top scholars may be beneficial, it could hinder the development of Canada’s own academic and research capacities.

It means they get worse. Hard as it is to believe that’s even possible.

Are the Democrats drifting further Left?

The Democrats are at a historic ebb and now is a good time to examine what the party believes in, who its main protagonists are and what their agenda is. Amid the fraught divisions in the party, however, one faction is emerging strong: the Big Red One.

That the Left of the party is in the ascendancy is evident at both the local and national level. Rather than let the fallout of Donald Trump’s tariffs speak for itself, the new head of the Democratic National Committee engaged in mad fighting talk. Ken Martin said: “We’re coming. This is a new Democratic Party. We’re taking the gloves off.” Martin draws his support from the likes of prominent anti-Israel figure Attorney General Keith Ellison. He is also a close ally of Left-leaning Minnesota Governor and Kamala Harris running mate Tim Walz, who just released a textbook for students that echoes Critical Race Theory, including an attack on “racial capitalism”.
