The U.S. election shows that sometimes the people get it wrong

A landslide, some call it. A sweeping victory – or, if you are so disposed, a stunning defeat. What could it all mean?

But wait a minute. Before we delve too deeply into the Meaning of It All, let’s be clear: To call this week’s presidential election a landslide, or even a significant majority, is complete nonsense, an artifact of two well-known distortions in how the U.S. counts the votes.

Donald Trump ‘could make huge UFO announcement within weeks’ after becoming president

Donald Trump’s second presidency could have a “seismic” effect when it comes to UFO disclosure – potentially revealing that the US government really has had contact with one or more extraterrestrial civilisations.

That’s according to Nick Pope who, for many years, was in charge of analysing UFO reports for the UK’s Ministry of Defence. Maverick billionaire Trump has seized an overwhelming victory in the 2024 US elections.

Under 16s will be banned from using social media, Australia announces

Children under 16 will be banned from using social media, Australia has said.

The country’s government said the new legislation was a world-leading attempt to deal with the dangers posed to young people by social networks.

Young people will be banned from using social networks. The companies themselves will be punished if they fail to ensure compliance, the government said.

“Social media is doing harm to our kids and I’m calling time on it,” Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese said.

Ultra-rich using jets like taxis, climate scientists warn

The mega-rich are using private jets like taxis, warn climate scientists who tracked flights to calculate the planet-warming gases they release.

The scientists worked out that the carbon dioxide emissions, which contribute to climate change, rose by 46% between 2019 and 2023.

Researchers traced all private flights globally, including summer weekend trips to Ibiza, Spain and travel to the Fifa World Cup and the UN climate conference in Dubai.

These would be the same folks who want you to give up your car and take public transit – for the environment.

On Election Day, Biden-Harris Admin Quietly Waived Terrorism Sanctions on Palestinian Government, Docs Show

Just before Tuesday’s presidential election, the Biden-Harris administration quietly waived mandatory terrorism sanctions on the embattled Palestinian government—even as it determined that the government’s leaders are paying imprisoned terrorists and fomenting violence in breach of U.S. law.

The State Department, in a non-public notice to Congress, determined that the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) are not complying with agreements to curb terrorism against Israel and end the “pay-to-slay” program, which rewards imprisoned terrorists for committing acts of violence.

The Pogrom In Amsterdam

“Globalize the Intifada!” is one of the slogans of pro-Palestinian organizations in the United States. We now see what it means as a brutal pogrom fouls the streets of Amsterdam. Just ponder this description of events in the biggest Dutch city last night:

What we know so far is that [Maccabi Tel Aviv] fans were ambushed, six are reported missing, attackers were armed with clubs and knives, Israelis were thrown into rivers and run over by cars, their passports was stolen and published online, fathers walking with their children were attacked by mobs, women were beaten in the streets, many beaten unconscious, two emergency planes have been dispatched from Ben Gurion airport to evacuate citizens immediately, the local authorities are overwhelmed …

OK so was this started by some ill-considered antics? No I’m not suggesting a pogrom was justified I’m just saying be forewarned before going off half-cocked …

From the Daily Mail …

Israeli football hooligans tear down Palestine flags in Amsterdam as taxi drivers ‘fight back’ in night of chaos ahead of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s visit to Ajax

This is from the Telegraph echoing the Daily Mail’s take on events …

Watch: Israeli football fans attacked by pro-Palestine mob in Amsterdam

Earlier, video shared on social media in the lead up to the football match showed the visitors were shouting “F— Palestine” and tearing down Palestinian flags.
