Why fight for justice isn’t over in India’s ‘horrific’ widow burning case, 37 years on

It was a case that made headlines globally and led to widespread condemnation.

A teenaged widow was burned on her husband’s funeral pyre under the Hindu practice of sati 37 years ago.

Now Roop Kanwar’s story has returned to headlines in India after a court acquitted eight men accused of glorifying her death, in the last of the remaining cases in the grisly saga.

Sati was first banned in 1829 by the British colonial rulers, but the practice had continued even after India’s independence in 1947. Kanwar is recognised as India’s last sati.

Poor people with non-terminal illness more likely to be legally murdered in Ontario

Rates of medical assistance in dying for non-terminal illness in Ontario higher in poorer neighbourhoods, reports say

In one case, an Ontario man in his late 40s with debilitating ulcers was granted medical assistance in dying, despite a litany of mental disorders and previous suicide attempts.

In another, a woman in her 50s with a history of depression, anxiety and suicidality received MAID in part because she couldn’t find housing that would relieve her suffering from multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome, a rare condition in which pain, fatigue, rashes and other ailments arise from mild exposure to chemicals.

UNHINGED: TDS Suffering ‘Atlantic’ Reporter Just Set Off a C-4 Charge on Godwin’s Law

With two and arguably three assassination attempts on Donald Trump from spun-up TDS-afflicted wackadoodle or Iranian assets, we thought the media had agreed to tamp down the crazy before the election. If they ever did, we missed the pause. And now a piece in “The Atlantic” has presented a story that should go down as the most buffoonish, caterwauling, dumbassery of recent political journalism. It gives dumb a bad name.

A city spokesperson said the zone will circle Rogers Centre and the neighbouring downtown areas to help mitigate traffic woes during the two-week period in mid-to-late-November.

So the cops will let the Pallies tie up traffic for a year but act decisively to clear a path for Taylor Swift. F-You Chow.
