Canadian tech worker sues Google, claiming she was fired for being pregnant

A lawsuit against Google claims the global tech giant suddenly and wrongfully fired a female employee after she told the company she was pregnant and planning a maternity leave.

Sarah Lilleyman filed a statement of claim against Google in Toronto’s Superior Court of Justice on Friday, saying her joyful news was not greeted with the same enthusiasm by Google Canada, and she was given notice of termination within days of her telling her bosses.

I predict an out of court settlement. She had a pretty sweet WFH gig.

Manhunt continues after body parts found in suitcases

A manhunt is continuing after a suitcase containing human remains was found on Bristol’s Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The historic bridge reopened on Friday after Avon and Somerset Police closed its roads in both directions to investigate the area the day before.

Officers are still looking for a man who was seen with a suitcase acting suspiciously on the bridge just before midnight on Wednesday.

England is so diverse.

Number of Ontarians without family doctor reaches 2.5 million, college says

The Ontario College of Family Physicians says there are now 2.5 million people in the province who don’t have a family doctor.

The college says that’s an increase of more than 160,000 people since the last count was released six months ago.

A separate study also shows that another 670,000 people in Ontario have a family doctor but need to travel more than 50 kilometres to see them.

Michigan Passes Laws Restricting Election Recounts for Fraud Allegations and Wide-Margin Victories

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed bills into law on Monday that will prohibit election recounts conducted due to allegations of fraud and for counts that would not impact election results.

Whitmer said in a statement that this supports “fair and free elections that make sure the winner can take office without unnecessary interference.”

WTF? Canada pledges Ukraine aid, as NATO spending questions dog PM

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged another $500 million in military assistance to Ukraine in a one-on-one conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the NATO summit in Washington, D.C.

The funding announcement Wednesday comes amidst pressure from American politicians who are publicly critical of Canada for falling short of its defence spending commitments.
