Canada Post said Friday its financial situation is so grim it could run out of operating funds in less than a year, after the Crown corporation posted another whopping pre-tax loss of $748 million in 2023.
In its annual report released late Friday afternoon, the company predicts “larger, unsustainable losses in future years” without major changes to its operating model.
Pro-Palestinian protesters taking part in an encampment at Princeton University began a hunger strike to raise awareness for starving people in Gaza.
The Princeton Israeli Apartheid Divest (PIAD) student organization posted a series of photos on Instagram announcing that pro-Palestinian protests would be launching a hunger strike “in solitary with Gaza.”

An anti-Israel activist shouted multiple epithets at Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., as he made an appearance at a Washington, D.C. college disrupted by protests.
On Wednesday, Donalds was one of the Republicans on the House Oversight Committee who visited an anti-Israel protester encampment at George Washington University amid a nationwide series of protests about the war in Gaza. The Daily Caller released video of Donalds being berated by a middle-aged man with a foreign accent who appeared to be part of the protests that afternoon.
The man calling @ByronDonalds an Uncle Tom and a race traitor is a professor at Georgetown named Zein El-Amine.

Unions representing Conestoga College’s faculty and support staff are speaking out about the impact of the school’s rapid growth on those who work there.
They feel many of the international students aren’t ready for college and that’s compromising the school’s academic integrity, putting an unnecessary strain on staff, and clouding their reputation.

A spike in impaired driving-related collisions has caused Ontario’s provincial police to begin enforcing mandatory alcohol screening (MAS) at all traffic stops in the Greater Toronto Area — a move one civil rights group says is ‘not acceptable.’
Speaking with CP24 on Thursday, Shakir Rahim, director of the Criminal Justice program at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), said that as the new measures do not require officer’s to have reason to request a breathalyzer test, they are unjustifiable.
“This is an unjustified power to interlude into someone’s life without any suspicion [that] they have done something wrong,” he said. “That’s not acceptable.”
I can’t say I’m surprised given I predicted this, but that doesn’t make it any less absurd. According to a local news report in California, the violent pro-Hamas students who set up an illegal encampment and trashed the UCLA campus received no jail time.

With the help of bulldozers, items including tents, chairs and yoga mats were removed Thursday morning from the UCLA encampment occupied by pro-Palestinian protesters and shoved into a large gray dumpster.
Packages of unopened plastic water bottles lay on the grass. Nearby, two white trucks held pieces of wood that had been used by protesters to barricade the camp. A group of four UCLA graduate students walked over to Dickson Court, the area on campus where the encampment once stood, only to learn the camp had been taken down. The action followed the arrests early Thursday of more than 200 protesters by officers in body armor, helmets and face shields.
