Pierre Poilievre calls for public safety minister to resign over Bernardo prison revelations

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said Wednesday that Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino should resign over his handling of convicted killer Paul Bernardo’s controversial prison transfer.
CBC News reported Tuesday that Mendicino’s office knew for months that one of Canada’s most high-profile murderers would be moved by Correctional Service Canada (CSC) to a medium-security institution.
CSIS intended for Blair to read memo on Chong, director says

CSIS director David Vigneault said the spy agency deliberately sent a May, 2021, note warning about China’s targeting of a Conservative MP and his relatives to then-public safety minister Bill Blair’s office and intended for this information to reach the minister because it was considered of high importance.
The testimony from the head of CSIS appeared to be an effort to defend the spy agency as a Commons committee probes why Conservative foreign affairs critic Michael Chong wasn’t warned of the 2021 intelligence collected by CSIS for two years.

Nottingham triple murder suspect a migrant ‘with history of mental health problems’

A West African migrant accused of the murders of three people in Nottingham yesterday is said to be refusing to answer questions from police – as he was described as having a history of petty drug dealing and mental health problems.
The 31-year-old, who is believed to have arrived in the country as a teenager and is not thought to be a refugee, is being questioned over the deaths of two students and a 65-year-old school caretaker – as well as the injuring of three others.
Rumours he may be a convert but nothing solid.
The Nuclear Theory You Never Knew Was Nonsense

Steve Milloy, long-time editor and founder of JunkScience.com, announced an explosive exposé this month in an extended article. Government and private scientists in radiation safety have been attempting to cover up a pattern of misconduct and hijack the Health Physics Society, a professional organization of radiation safety experts and officials, to take down the society’s series of twenty-two videos featuring Dr. Ed Calabrese, which exposes a longtime scam in radiation safety matters.
If Amazon Thinks You’re a Racist, It Will Shut Down Your Smart Home

You no longer control your home. Amazon does.
They say that a fool and his cloud are easily parted.
We talk a lot about deplatforming, but when a single corporation doesn’t just control a site you use, but controls most of your life, everything from your doorbell to your vacuum, your music and your lightbulbs, and it decides that your politics are bad, you’ve got problems.

Cops are ‘keeping an open mind’ over motive as they guard house near to where man and woman were stabbed to death by knifeman – before killer ‘murdered’ another victim and mowed down three with van

Counter terror police have raided two properties in Nottingham today after three people died and three others were injured in a ‘knife’ and van rampage – with cops saying they are keeping an ‘open mind’ over the motive for the attack.
The raid took place this afternoon around Ilkeston Road in a student area of the city, where a witness saw a young man and a young woman being stabbed by a black-clad attacker with a rucksack at 4am.
After the first attack, a third body was found on Magdala Street. Police were then called to another incident on Milton Street, where a van ran into three people who are now being treated in hospital.
'We've seen forensic teams going around… Investigations very active here.'

Britain fires up coal plant as weather becomes too hot for solar panels to work efficiently

Britain has started burning coal to generate electricity for the first time in a month and a half, after the heatwave made solar panels too hot to work efficiently.
One unit at Uniper’s Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal power plant in Nottinghamshire started producing electricity for the first time in weeks on Monday morning, while another coal-powered plant was warmed up in case it was needed by the early afternoon.

Apologists for shoplifting

No, petty crime is not a radical political act.
‘Every little helps.’ That’s the famous slogan of the UK’s largest supermarket, Tesco. Now it has been appropriated by one middle-class journalist to justify ‘cheeky’ shoplifting sprees. Apparently, the cost-of-living crisis is an excuse for thieving. According to the anonymous author writing in the Telegraph earlier this month, it is all the supermarkets’ fault anyway. They are the ones making thievery so easy, by replacing cashiers with self-service checkouts and mobile self-scanning apps.
