Fuel to Air India Plane Was Cut Off Before Deadly Crash, Report Says

Seconds after takeoff and moments before an Air India flight crashed last month, the fuel was cut off to both engines of the plane, investigators said early on Saturday, in a preliminary assessment of information from the Boeing 787’s voice and data recorders.

The narrowed focus on the fuel switches on Air India Flight 171 raised questions about the pilots’ actions and appeared to rule out mechanical failure or design flaws. The report said “there are no recommended actions” to the aircraft and engine manufacturers, Boeing and General Electric.

The RCMP’s Stetson is ‘iconic’ Canadiana. It’s also made in America

OTTAWA — Go to any event featuring RCMP in ceremonial dress, and you’re bound to see Mounties wearing the red serge, blue and yellow breeches, a Sam Browne belt, brown Strathcona boots, and a wide-brimmed, beige Stetson.

The hat, nicknamed the “red Stetson,” has appeared as part of the RCMP uniform on stamps, posters, promotional videos and even documentaries. It is a core piece of the Mounties’ iconic image and an internationally recognizable piece of Canadiana.

Calais police fight losing battle to block migrants using lorries

On the beaches around Calais, dramatic clashes between migrants and gendarmes armed with drones, batons and tear gas have become commonplace.

But tucked away in the backstreets, another game of cat and mouse is quietly taking place: between the poorest migrants living in northern France, and the lorry drivers departing for Britain.

Attempts by migrants to enter the UK clandestinely by lorry peaked in 2016, prompting a huge increase in security around ferry ports, truck stops and the Channel tunnel.

Swarmings a popular pastime among  Yutes.

Two girls have been arrested in a swarming attack on a Muslim woman in Oshawa, Ont., and police say there is no evidence so far to indicate hate was a factor.

German state bans AfD members from civil service

Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) members have been banned from public-sector roles by the regional government of Germany’s sixth most populous state. A new policy in Rhineland-Palatinate requires candidates to submit a written declaration of loyalty to the constitution, and to state that they have not been a member of an extremist organisation in the last five years. Anyone who fails to pass this test will not be permitted to take up any public-sector role in the region.

Michelle Pfeiffer launches extraordinary attack on Bill Gates and suggests he’ll contaminate America’s food supply

Iconic actress Michelle Pfeiffer has launched a shocking attack on billionaire Bill Gates and suggested he’s going to contaminate America’s food supply.

In an extraordinarily rare move for the low-key actress, Pfeiffer took to Instagram on Thursday to express concern over the FDA’s approval of Apeel, a Gates-backed food coating meant to extend the shelf life of produce.

‘Apeel (an edible, plant-based coating designed to extend the shelf life of fresh fruits and vegetables) was just approved and now “organic” produce is coated in something we cannot see or wash off,’ Pfeiffer wrote.

ALBERS: A breakup letter from Alberta

Dear Canada,

It grieves us — though not unduly — to write what must now be said: this relationship, such as it ever was, is over. Done. Toast. You may keep the Laurentian furniture; we’ll be taking the pickup, the pipeline plans, and whatever’s left of our dignity.

And before you interrupt with the old chestnut about “working through our differences,” let’s be frank for once: it’s not us, it’s definitely you.

Canadians drastically downgrade climate as a priority, poll finds, as economic concerns escalate

OTTAWA — One of the key barriers that seemed to be facing the Carney government’s plans to fast-track big projects designed to boost the Canadian economy — namely, climate concerns — appears now to be not much of an obstacle at all when it comes to public opinion.

A new Leger poll released Friday asked Canadians about what they thought were the biggest challenges facing Canada. Trade and tariff issues and U.S. relations were No. 1, at 20 per cent. But climate change, one of the federal government’s key objections in recent years to building or expanding pipelines, ports and other big projects, was way down the list, a “third tier” issue, said Leger executive vice-president Andrew Enns.

DOJ’s Epstein cover-up is a ‘civics test’ for Americans

It’s fairly rare that I agree with Glenn Beck on a political issue (he’s too much of a neocon for me), but he recently posted a brilliant thread on X detailing “five conclusions…for anyone who still cares about truth” on the latest chapter of the Jeffrey Epstein cover-up, this development unfolding under the Trump administration. (For brevity’s sake I won’t include the whole thread, but the beginning of it can be found here.)

Now, I’ve seen a number of Republicans and conservatives declare that to some degree or another, they don’t really care about the Epstein saga—and if you don’t, then you’re not passing Beck’s “civics test.” I’d certainly agree. As Vince Coyner writes, this is “far bigger” than a pedophile and his crimes against children (which to me, should be reason enough to care about justice), and it’s a position that Beck articulately argues in his X thread.
