Ontario’s wounded economy is dragging down Canada’s growth

Ontario is the sick man of Canada.

The heartland province, with almost 40 per cent of the country’s population and economy, was a national leader in agriculture, then in manufacturing, then in services and most recently in tech.

But today’s news is mostly bad news. Although the number of farms in Canada is dropping in most jurisdictions, Ontario’s decline is above the national average (2.5 per cent between 2016 and 2021, according to Statistics Canada, compared to 1.9 per cent nationally).

Rosie O‘Donnell Blames Trump for Causing Texas Flooding: Put the U.S. ‘In So Much Danger‘

Rosie O’Donnell, who self-deported to Ireland, cast blame on President Donald Trump for the devasting flash-flooding that has occurred in Texas after torrential rainfall led to the Guadalupe River rising roughly 26 feet within 45 minutes.

In a video on TikTok, O’Donnell criticized Trump for gutting “all of the early warning systems and the weathering forecast abilities of the government,” adding that the flash-flooding in Texas were “the results” people would see more often.

Politicians overstating benefits of scrapping internal trade barriers: Think tank

OTTAWA — A new report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives is dismissing moves by the federal government and Canada’s premiers to break down internal trade barriers as little more than “political theatre.”

It lands just ahead of the country’s internal trade ministers meeting in Quebec City this week, where they are expected to talk about their next steps as they rush to remove rules hampering cross-provincial trade.

Is the UK really any safer 20 years on from 7/7?

There are extraordinary secret surveillance images – now largely forgotten – that in their own grainy and mysterious way, tell the story of missed opportunities that maybe, just maybe, could have stopped the horrific suicide attacks that took place in London 20 years ago.

They are images of the ringleader of the 7/7 bombings – first caught on camera at an al-Qaeda-associated training camp in the Lake District in 2001.

Two more images from 2004 show him – name and intentions then unknown – meeting a different cell of bomb plotters outside London and being followed by an MI5 team as he made his way back to Leeds.

Fanatics that don’t want you to drive anything lobby Carney to keep Stalinesque EV Mandate

Environment group warns against repealing federal EV mandate

An environmental think tank is warning the federal government against repealing its electric vehicle mandate, instead suggesting that politicians should be helping to put more EVs on the road.

In a statement published Friday, Clean Energy Canada gave three recommendations to the federal government to help deliver affordable EVs to Canadians for less than $40,000.
The group, based out of Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, said Ottawa should retool its EV mandate by revisiting its near-term targets to help the auto sector “weather this temporary storm” of slumping EV sales.

This is how mass migration will change Britain beyond recognition

Our political elites have utterly failed to address the cultural changes that are undermining our nation

Britain will be unrecognisable by the end of this century. Unless things change, and change fast, the population of the UK will be permanently transformed by mass immigration. White Britons will become a minority by the year 2063. The foreign-born and their immediate descendants will become a majority by 2079. And nearly one in four people in the UK will be following Islam by the year 2100; this figure would rise to around one in three among under-40s.

Many people struggle to make sense of the pace and scale of these changes. They ask how a nation can be transformed this fast without the consent of the governed.

But, last week, brand new data from the Office for National Statistics has made it abundantly clear that these trends are already well underway.

Why Mark Carney’s biggest brand asset is the Justin Trudeau contrast

In marketing, a brand’s positioning is defined by the choices consumers have. Politics operates the same way: a leader’s identity is shaped by how they differ from their rivals and the options they represent.

Right now, Prime Minister Mark Carney finds himself in a unique position. With Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre out of Parliament since losing his seat in the last federal election, Carney’s main rival has been largely absent from the spotlight, regrouping and preparing for a return in a safe Conservative riding. This has left Carney without a direct, visible opponent in the House of Commons or in the media, giving him a clear runway and allowing his brand to flourish unopposed.

I don’t see much difference.

FBI Concludes Jeffrey Epstein Had No Clients, Didn’t Blackmail Anyone, And Definitely Killed Himself

Deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein and his colleague, Ghislaine Maxwell, were both charged by the Justice Department with sex trafficking—and Maxwell was convicted. But according to the DOJ, the two apparently didn’t have any clients.

In a bombshell FBI memo leaked to Axios and published Sunday night, officials said they’ve reviewed more than 300 gigabytes of Epstein evidence—and haven’t found any vast human trafficking or sexual blackmail operation.

Shooter killed in attempt to ambush Border Patrol agents in Texas

An active shooter armed with tactical gear and a rifle opened fire upon Border Patrol agents as they arrived at a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley on Monday.

Agents and local police returned fire and killed the gunman. No federal agents were hit, but one McAllen police officer was struck. Law enforcement sources say the officer is in stable condition.

Driver charged over electric Jaguar that ‘went rogue’ on motorway

The driver of an £80,000 electric car that had to be rammed off the road by police after it “went rogue” at 100mph has been charged with a motoring offence and fraud.

Nathan Owen, 32, said the brake failed and he lost control of his Jaguar I-PACE as it tore down the motorway between Liverpool and Manchester because of an “electrical fault”.

He said he was on his way home from work on the first day of his job as a children’s support worker and feared he would die or kill someone else during the journey.

My guess is it tried to commit suicide after seeing those ads.

Camp Mystic death total rises to 27 after devastating Texas floods: ‘Our hearts are broken’

Camp Mystic announced a heartbreaking update Monday, confirming that 27 campers and counselors have now been confirmed dead in the devastating flash floods in Texas.

“Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly,” the camp posted on its website.

Camp officials said they’ve been in contact with local and state authorities “who are tirelessly deploying extensive resources to search for our missing girls.”

CNN reporter Pamela Brown, who attended Camp Mystic as a kid, ‘overwhelmed with emotion’ as she returns to cover deadly Texas floods

The Texas Flash Floods

As I write this, the death toll in the Texas flash floods now exceeds 70, with 12 people still missing, including 11 girls and one camp counselor. It is a heartbreaking and horrific tragedy.

Many have been quick to politicize the tragedy in an effort to support whatever agenda that they were promoting before the disaster — climate change, DOGE budget cuts, operations of the National Weather Service, the Biden Administration. The one political implication of the disaster that I’m ready to call for is to reassert the importance of establishing a U.S. Disaster Review Board, a case made here at THB by Mike Smith last March.

Today, I share some data and context on the event for those wanting to go beyond seeking to use tragic deaths in hopes of scoring online partisan points. Shameful.

A whole lot of pacifists of a sudden …

Canada should consider hiking GST, other taxes to pay for defence-spending boost: analysts

A steep new military spending commitment for Canada – the biggest increase in more than 70 years – has handed Mark Carney’s government a fresh challenge: how to pay for it.

At the June, 2025, NATO leaders’ summit, the Prime Minister pledged that Canada will spend as much as $150-billion annually on defence within a decade: equivalent to 5 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

What do police on the front line make of plans to stop the boats?

Migrant Doctors Head For England

France has sent officers into the water to slash and deflate boats as it weighs up new approaches to stem the tide of migrant crossings

Nicolas Laroye, a veteran of France’s border police, spent more than a decade patrolling the coast around Dunkirk in search of migrants. Now he shares the frustration of colleagues who have taken over what has become a near impossible task.

“Of course we want to stop the migrants,” he said, as we sat in a cafe. “But we know that they will keep trying and trying and that in the end they will all get through.”

I doubt they care much that the migrants are leaving France.
