New York is bracing for an “exodus of billionaires” after the Democrats nominated a staunch socialist as their candidate for mayor.
Zorham Mamdani, a 33-year-old “anti-Zionist”, sent shock waves through American politics on Tuesday when he beat Andrew Cuomo, the former governor, in the Democratic primary, earning him the party’s nomination for November’s mayoral election.

A B.C. firefighter says he was denied entry into the United States, where he was going to take part in a competition for First Responders from different countries around the world.
Jamie Flynn posted on social media on Thursday to detail what happened to him when he was en route to Birmingham, Alabama. He said he was supposed to represent Vancouver firefighters in the Jiu Jitsu category at the World Police & Fire Games. Flynn, who is a British citizen, described the games as an “international event uniting frontline responders through sport,” in a post on Instagram.

Since the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, there has hardly been a more pressing issue for NATO than the defense of its eastern borders.
Over the past three years, five of the six NATO countries that share a border with Russia or Belarus — Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland— have already made significant investments to better secure these borders, for example with fences and surveillance systems.
But now, a new plan is in the works: land mines.

When Rachael Coe decided to launch an “elbows up” merchandise line at her store in Yarmouth, N.S., in March, she said it was an immediate bestseller.
Within a week, Coe said her Timeless Memories shop had already made 400 sales. By the end of the first month, she had sold 2,500 products ranging from T-shirts to hoodies to car decals.

When it emerged that last weekend a convicted paedophile had organised a fake wedding to a nine-year-old at Disneyland Paris, many people were perplexed.
Who would do such a thing? How was it even possible? The BBC understands it was the latest bizarre stunt by Jacky Jhaj – a British man I have been investigating for two years.
He first came to my attention after a tip off from a teenage girl came out of the blue in 2023.
She was horrified that she had come face to face with a paedophile who she had been hired to fawn over.

Some readers will recall that in this space last week I opposed those calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and de-escalation in the Iran-Israel war because that would only lead to renewed terrorist activity in Gaza against Israel and the deployment of nuclear weapons by Iran, whose government has pledged to destroy the Jewish people. To paraphrase Japanese Emperor Hirohito after the detonation of two atomic bombs on Japan in 1945, in the light of this week’s events, it is time for the “unthinkable.” (The Japanese emperor acknowledged that the war had not gone “entirely as we had hoped.”) As predicted here and elsewhere, the United States Air Force and Navy successfully penetrated and destroyed the underground Iranian nuclear development sites. Those who immediately predicted a drastic escalation of hostilities and were soiling themselves in lamentations of imminent world war were placated, and in many cases doubtless disappointed, at the ceasefire that followed 24 hours later. Incorrigibly anti-American and particularly Trump-hating outlets such as the BBC, the CBC, the Guardian, Al-Jazeera, CNN and MSNBC attached themselves like limpets to the instant conjuration that the damage done by the American attacks had only been superficial and would easily be repaired. In the only known honest words that the criminally diseased regime in Tehran has uttered in its 47 years, the Iranian Islamic government acknowledged that official American reports of the success of the raids were accurate. U.S. President Donald Trump’s opponents dismissed this as disinformation. The more vocal political suicide cases among the American congressional Democrats, who had been calling for Trump’s impeachment for plunging the nation into war without authority, were struck mercifully dumb.
Update: Guys I bumped this post because people have questions or personal stories and hopefully we can all learn something.
What did I do today?
I got older.
Or maybe just a bit more adult.
I went to Costco.
I bought something I have needed for a long time.
Something Kathy had asked that I do many times.

We’ve had a big week. We’ve had a lot of victories this week,” Donald Trump boasted on Friday as he made a surprise appearance in the White House briefing room after securing a win in the Supreme Court towards ending birthright citizenship. It capped off, a grinning president explained, a great week for his administration.

David Gardiner received a handout from the City of Vancouver on June 6, telling him that his street name was going to be changing.
He has lived on the now formerly-named Trutch Street for 40 years, which now bears the name šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street (pronounced sh-MUS-quee-um-AW-sum), which translates to Musqueamview in English.
Yay, found the first character (top line left). The backwards e and the theta are there as well. These are not in my car's GPS or Google maps. pic.twitter.com/YViM1t1OfN

Zohran Mamdani shows that the toxic wind that began to blow after the killing of George Floyd has become a tornado
New York is generally considered one of the greatest cities on earth, if not the greatest, as the classic tagline goes.
Never mind that in my view, it is stifling in summer and slushy in winter, a concrete jungle from which it often feels there is no escape thanks to a terrifying, erratic subway, an incomprehensible bus system, and all of it laid out on an alienating grid system suited to human compasses, not people.
Then there are the rodents and the cockroaches, the poorly-made housing, and the sky-high prices.

Prime Minister Mark Carney was elected because he said he was the best leader to deal with Donald Trump in a tariff war.
Now would be a good time for him to prove it.
Another UK band has come under fire for its “threatening” comments against Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza — stirring up a frenzy at an outdoor music festival Saturday.
English-based punk duo Bob Vylan whipped the crowd at England’s annual Glastonbury Music Festival into a furor, and led the massive audience in gang chants of “Free, free Palestine” and “Death, death to the IDF” in referencing the Israeli Defense Forces.
In all my years skirting the fringes of right-wing groups, I’ve never once been at a meeting or rally where a crowd openly chanted death to anyone, let alone thousands screaming it in unison. pic.twitter.com/wtqQ3tV8Bu

The Liberals’ controversial, long-delayed gun grab program is expected to cost taxpayers more than $500 million in the 2025-26 fiscal year.
A recent report found the government’s Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program is widely unpopular with Canadians. The gun grab is entering its fifth year behind schedule — and is over budget and increasingly unpopular.

The Canadian government has ordered Chinese surveillance camera manufacturer Hikvision to cease operations in Canada over national security concerns, Industry Minister Melanie Joly said late on Friday.
Hikvision, also known as Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., has faced numerous sanctions and restrictions by Canada’s neighbour, the United States, over the past 5½ years for the firm’s dealings and the use of its equipment in China’s Xinjiang region, where rights groups have documented abuses against the Uyghur population and other Muslim communities.
