‘She’s not an honest or a reliable witness’: Defence challenges complainant’s credibility as closing arguments begin at Hockey Canada trial

LONDON, Ont. — The complainant in the high-profile Hockey Canada sexual assault trial was a “fully consenting participant” who fabricated her allegations because she didn’t want to admit she chose to be “sexually adventurous” in a hotel room full of men she had just met, the defence argued Monday at the start of closing arguments.

The central issue in the case is whether the woman, whose identity is covered by a standard publication ban, consented to sexual activity with Michael McLeod, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart, Dillon Dubé and Cal Foote, all members of the 2018 Canadian world junior championship team, in a room at the Delta Armouries hotel in the early hours of June 19, 2018, when she was 20 years old.

Outrage in Italy as Muslims cover statue of Jesus during prayers

A religious uproar erupted in Italy after a statue of Jesus was covered with a cloth during Eid al-Adha prayers held by local Muslims in a church in Monfalcone. Approximately 4,000 worshippers gathered for the prayer service at the Church of Marcelliana, which had been offered to the Muslim community for the holiday. The act of covering the statue sparked harsh criticism from former Monfalcone mayor and current European Parliament member for the right-wing League party, Anna Maria Cisint.

Refugees in limbo as Ottawa silent on immigration jobs program due to expire within days

In the Ontario village of Schomberg, the local stone masonry shop is known for holding the Guinness world record for the tallest freestanding inukshuk sculpture.

Since last year, the company, which crafts marble columns and limestone windowsills out of stone from its quarries, has cultivated another cause for renown: rescuing Syrian refugees.
Peter Melo, general manager of Allstone Quarry Products, has helped two refugees establish new lives in Canada with their families, and he is in the process of hiring one more.

I bet he’s as Big Hearted as the wage subsidy he gets for giving jobs to foreigners. Just what we need – more Muslims.

Joel Kotkin: Carney’s Canada will devolve into feudalism

Canada may have severed its feudal ties less violently, but like America, it experienced far less sustained aristocratic domination than either of its two mother countries, France and Great Britain. But now, particularly with the rise of the ultimate establishmentarian, Mark Carney, as prime minister, Canada’s feudal future seems increasingly assured.

London-based ‘Hamas operative’ behind Greta Thunberg’s Gaza flotilla

A man accused of being “a Hamas operative” based in London is a key figure behind Greta Thunberg’s Gaza-bound aid boat, it emerged on Monday.

Zaher Birawi, who was described in Parliament as a person with links to Hamas, describes himself as a “founding member” of the Freedom Flotilla International Coalition, which arranged the voyage by the aid boat Madleen.

Israeli forces boarded and seized the boat on Sunday – detaining the 12 pro-Palestinian activists it was carrying, including Ms Thunberg – as it attempted to bring a “symbolic” amount of aid to Gaza in defiance of an Israeli naval blockade.

Cory Morgan: It’s a Verifiable Fact—No Group Has Veto Power Over Energy Projects

When a politician is caught spreading misinformation, an apology and retraction is expected, though not always granted. We don’t expect retractions and apologies from politicians when they tell the truth, though, yet that is what happened with federal Justice Minister and Attorney General Sean Fraser.

Fraser’s apology for stating a verifiable fact isn’t just novel—it sets a dangerous precedent and further entrenches misconceptions about the authority of indigenous people in Canada.

Canadian Unemployment Soars, Driven By Immigration More Than Tariffs

Canada’s economy was dealt another blow last month, and it wasn’t due to tariffs. Statistics Canada (Stat Can) data shows the unemployment rate climbed aggressively in May, hitting a new multi-year high. Despite the narrative of tariff-induced job losses, the country managed to add a few thousand jobs. Rising unemployment continues to be driven by an aggressive immigration strategy, which added four workers for every job last month.

China’s super-embassy in London ‘must be blocked’ after US warning

Plans for a new Chinese “super-embassy” in London must be blocked after a warning from the White House, the Tories have said.

Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, said the proposals for a huge new complex near the city’s financial hub pose a “security risk” and should be thrown out.

The proposed “mega embassy” at the former Royal Mint site near the Tower of London has been locked in a planning battle for years, with the decision called in for review last year.
