Honest Injun! Fraser apologizes, says comments on Indigenous consultation eroded trust

OTTAWA – Justice Minister Sean Fraser apologized Wednesday for comments he made about the government’s duty to consult with Indigenous leaders on major projects.

Fraser said Tuesday that the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples requires consultation but does not amount to “a blanket veto power” over projects.

Peel school board’s former anti-discrimination leader sues for wrongful dismissal, breach of contract

The former head of the Peel public school board’s anti-discrimination work has sued the board, alleging she was unlawfully fired after years of trying to hold her employer accountable for “resistance” to equity initiatives.

The 41-page statement of claim comes nearly eight years after Poleen Grewal was appointed by the Peel District School Board to advance equity and anti-racism initiatives in its more than 250 schools. The $7.5 million suit alleges in part that the board failed to support those initiatives, sought reprisal against her when she expressed concerns, and ultimately fired her to “appease staff opposed to equity and anti-Black racism” programs.

She sounds like a real piece of work.

“Later that year, Joshua launched a workplace investigation against Grewal after an unnamed trustee and teacher alleged that Grewal had directed staff at her son’s PDSB school to award him high marks without merit. The claim alleges Joshua failed to recuse himself from overseeing the investigation, despite being named as a respondent in the human rights application.”

JD Vance Nukes Harvard for Its Authoritarian Lack of Diversity

At the American Compass Gala in Washington, Tuesday night, Vice President JD Vance delivered a scathing critique of elite academia that cut straight to the heart of what’s wrong with American higher education. In a room filled with conservative thought leaders and policy minds, Vance did what few Republican politicians have the guts to do—he called out the intellectual rot inside places like Harvard for what it is: ideological groupthink masquerading as enlightenment.

Surging Canadian pride in face of Trump’s insults sags after Canada’s federal election, poll finds

A surge in Canadian pride when Canada’s sovereignty and dignity were under assault from U.S. President Donald Trump has slumped back to normal levels after the federal election, according to a public opinion poll.

Last year — in May and again in November — 80 per cent of Canadians said they were proud to be Canadian in opinion polls, but patriotism surged this spring, climbing to 86 per cent in early March, during the lead-up to April’s federal election call.

Israel threatens to ‘act accordingly’ as Greta Thunberg frolics on sailing boat heading to Gaza

Israel warned Wednesday that it is “prepared” to “act accordingly” to stop Greta Thunberg’s so-called Freedom Flotilla Coalition from reaching Gaza — as the eco-activist frolicked and filmed smiling social media content on the Mediterranean Sea.

Thunberg, 22, set sail Sunday to bring milk and protein bars to Gaza — with the Swedish campaigner posting images of her glamming it up onboard in a keffiyeh and holding a Palestinian flag.

The RCMP investigation on the Gaza war shows Canada’s approach to Israel could be changing

Canadian authorities are conducting an investigation into war crimes and other potential atrocities committed in the Israel-Hamas war. First reported by journalist Ben Mussett, the news comes amidst mounting evidence of the intentional starvation of civilians in Gaza, the refusal of Hamas to return hostages, moves to build new (and illegal) settlements in the West Bank, and open calls among Israeli leaders to depopulate Gaza. The RCMP investigation marks the first time that Canada has dedicated tangible resources to investigating international crimes in the Palestinian territories and Israel.

German, Norwegian officials urge Canada to join ‘familiar family’ in buying new submarines

Senior German and Norwegian defence officials say they’re confident Canada will sign on to the ReArm Europe plan in the coming weeks and such a move will make it easier for the Liberal government to buy new submarines from allies.

Jasper Wieck, the political director of the German Ministry of Defence, and Norway’s program director of submarines, Capt. (N) Oystein Storebo, spoke with CBC News recently about the pitch for Canada to join their existing partnership, in which the two nations are constructing cutting-edge boats that will begin to enter service in 2028.

No mention by Carney of NATO’s upcoming demand for a 3.5% members spend: Nato will force Britain to spend 3.5pc on defence

Chinese researchers charged with smuggling dangerous biological pathogen into US

Biological Pathogens Smuggled Into the US by China

A pair of Chinese researchers have been charged for allegedly smuggling a biological pathogen into the US to study at the University of Michigan, according to federal authorities.

Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, have been charged with conspiracy, smuggling, making false statements and visa fraud after authorities found that Liu entered the country last year with a toxic fungus stashed in his backpack.

Liu attempted to smuggle the pathogen through Detroit airport so he could study it at the University of Michigan laboratory where his girlfriend, Jian, worked, the complaint said.

Will the damage ever be undone?

On the anniversary of a national psychotic episode. . .

Four years ago this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ordered the flags lowered on all federal buildings across Canada. He’d already ordered the flags lowered on Parliament Hill over the weekend before. All the flags remained at half mast for six long months.

There were riots. Statues of Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, John A. Macdonald, Egerton Ryerson, Joseph Hugonard, James Cook and other historical figures were toppled by mobs or formally removed in Charlottetown, Winnipeg, Toronto, Kingston, Hamilton, Lebret and Victoria.

Politicians have their heads in the sand about immigration’s irreversible damages

A new report published by the Centre for Heterodox Social Science has underscored the reality of significant demographic change in modern Britain. Authored by Matthew Goodwin, the research projects that the white-British ethnic majority will become a minority within the next four decades and could fall as low as a third of the UK’s population by the end of the century.

By 2100, the analysis predicts that three in five people will be non-white. Currently standing in the region of seven per cent, the Muslim proportion of the UK’s population could increase to eleven percent by 2050 and as high as one-fifth of it by the 22nd century.

Should Canada build a pipeline to the West or the East?

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith went into the first ministers’ meeting calling for a commitment to an oil pipeline to the northern B.C. coast. Some Eastern Canadian premiers suggested they’re keen on an oil pipeline that would go across the country from west to east.

Neither exists yet. There’s no company proposing to build either. But even as concepts, they are very different. They would serve very different purposes.

Decarbonized? Is that oil gone flat?
